Sun Belt poll

1.) Louisiana (2-2, 0-0) - They're finally showing what they're capable of doing against Eastern Michigan, in what was supposed to be the first test of the year. That test now comes Saturday against Houston. Last week: 3rd.

2.) Middle Tennessee (3-2, 2-0) - The Blue Raiders are starting to make believers out of people with that 35-0 crunching at North Texas. Throw out the 59-0 game at OU and they'd be first, but MT still has the league's best defense. Last week: 5th.

3.) Arkansas State (2-2, 1-0) - Hate to be a thermometer in Jonesboro, because ASU's mercurial hot and cold right now. But that's plenty good enough to rank high in this league. Last week: 6th.

4.) Fla. International (0-5, 0-2) - How bad is it when your top pick loses to Arkansas State 31-6 at home? A Panther team that played Maryland within four and South Florida within one, both on the road, can't be that bad. Last week: 1st.

5.) Troy (1-4, 0-0) - Getting blanked at Nebraska isn't that bad. Not getting a touchdown against UAB is. The Trojans could be hitting mid-season blues with their new offense, but at least they get a week off. Last week: 4th.

6.) North Texas (1-4, 0-1) - The Mean Green doesn't get the benefit of the doubt any more. They're a tragedy offensively right now, and the defense isn't good enough yet to cover those holes. Last week: 2nd.

7.) Fla. Atlantic (1-4, 1-0) - The surprise of Sun Belt play so far is the Owls going to Monroe and winning last weekend. Just surviving September and getting a win after four spankings deserves something. Last week: 8th.

8.) UL Monroe (1-3, 0-1) - The Wardoves are beaten up, they're embarrassed after last weekend and now they have to play at Arkansas State on television. Last week: 7th.
