NBA developmental league adds Fort Worth club

By Avery Holton

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

FORT WORTH -- The National Basketball Association announced Monday the expansion of its developmental league into two Texas markets, including Fort Worth.

The eight-team National Basketball Development League will expand to Fort Worth, Austin, Albuquerque, N.M., and Tulsa, Okla., for the 2005-06 season.

NBA Commissioner David Stern made the announcement along with National Developmental League president Phil Evans and suggested that the NBDL, which is already a funnel for the NBA, could eventually take on affiliations similar to major league baseball.

Fort Worth will begin play in mid-November in the Fort Worth Convention Center. Ticket prices and schedules will be released in the coming months.
