  1. Agreed. I don't have a problem with the 3-3-5 itself. Many successful programs are running it these days. But we hired a first-time DC who only knows that system late in the cycle and without the personnel to run it, then we didn't do a very good job of getting that personnel. Also, in a number of programs that have shifted to it, there appears to be a steep learning curve. I think it's important we not only get some transfers in, but some transfers in that have experience in the 3-3-5, if that's what we're going to run.
  2. Agreed. And it would be one thing if he had a bunch of experience in various systems, but this is a guy who's never been a DC and who's only been in a 3-3-5 since he was a GA at Pittsburgh in 2011. So it's not JUST that he's a 3-3-5 coach. He's ONLY a 3-3-5 coach.
  3. I don't really think this was the case. I remember a good number of people were underwhelmed with the hiring of Morris, especially after a season of speculation on a number of names, and Morris wasn't usually high on anyone's list, if present at all. People were really looking for an exciting hire this time around, and Morris wasn't it. And a number expressed concerns with Leach disciples and defensive expectations. I seem to recall a lot of "okay, I guess." I had us at 4-5 wins, just because I think new coaches in new conferences might struggle, and didn't feel confident in our QB situation. But I'm still disappointed in HOW we've gotten here. But, once a hire's made, most people get on board because what else are you gonna do? And he speaks better than Littrell, so I think he did a pretty good job of making people feel better during some early season struggles. It's just that now the shine is off.
  4. LOL. Skip Holtz won 6 straight bowl games before getting blown out in the NO Bowl in 2020 (6-1 in bowl games). He went 64-50 at La Tech with 6/9 winning seasons, all 6 in a row. His teams played in 3 CUSA Championships, losing all 3, but 2/3 were close games. Seth Littrell was 0-fer in bowl games. He was a .500 coach here, with 3/7 winning seasons. He got blown out in his two Championship games and got us destroyed in every bowl game but the 2016 HOD Bowl. These guys are not even in the the same league. Holtz has won 152 games and had winning records at 3/4 schools. He did more with less at La Tech than Littrell did here, and Littrell made 2-3x what he did.
  5. Yeah, with the defensive issues, it's a little too easy to gloss over what he's done. Rogers is killing it.
  6. As far as Army being "dirty", my issues with playing them (as well as other triple option teams) was less to do with specific players and coaches, but the style of offense and cut blocking leading to increased injuries to players. However, the NCAA passed a rule last year, and they no longer allow cut blocks outside the tackle box. Army and Navy have both had to adjust their offense, so I'm no longer as concerned. We'll see how it all shakes out. But the service academies are GREAT opponents to have when it comes to fan engagement and media attention.
  7. Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. As much as I'd like to enjoy the schadenfreude, a conference mate failing to secure a financial commitment to allow them facility upgrades is NOT a good thing for the conference. We shouldn't feel the need to rely on the failure of others for us to be successful.
  8. They could always steal more welfare money from the taxpayers.
  9. Outside of their game against us, where they scored 46, FIU is averaging a little over 15ppg.
  10. Anyone: Bring up that our team lacks size, and that size does matter (hey-oh!) This board:
  11. I believe we tried that late in the game. Stupid refs wouldn't let us run it.
  12. We replaced an Air Raid coach who went 24-18 in his first 42 games at HC with an Air Raid coach who went 24-18 in his first 42 games at HC in the FCS. And I'm not saying that everyone who has the same philosophy or comes from the same coaching tree is the same. I think mostly UNT has been TOO reactionary with their hires, trying to always spin a 180, until this most recent hire. I'm just seeing a lot of the same things I've been seeing. I think he's set us up for better recruiting, so there's that. And I don't feel like we're getting as many penalties, which would be a combination of the players' makeups and position coaches' teaching of technique. I LIKE Coach Morris. He seems candid and realistic. But I'm not impressed with our level of Xs and Os or with the roster we've started the season with. And that's the job. As far as him being able to elevate our program, I don't see it. I don't know what he's bringing to the table that's different than what we've had before.
  13. Are we playing with 11 defenders? Nevermind. We're trying to play with 12.... JFC
  14. Yeah, the pass to Sides on 4th down was great, but this has been a messy offensive possession to start the 2nd half.
  15. Except our green doesn't look like this photo at all, unless you've got some insane settings on your TV or left it on the store display mode. Literally look at it compared to the main header or "Reply To This Topic" button on this website, which will be much closer. Still, it gets washed out badly on TV with the stadium lighting or sunlight. https://identityguide.unt.edu/create-our-look/color
