  1. I thought it was the other way around where JJ was here for a few months before RV arrived?
  2. RV has made some FANTASTIC hires. Unfortunately, they are in sports that do not garner attention nationally except for niche fans, and for the sports that are relevant nationally (FB, MBB & WBB), the hires have not been good so far (sans the Aston hire, and I'll still say the jury is out on McCarney/Benford/Peterson).
  3. LOL!! No. For everyone thinking that Mitchell is losing draft stock, I can only beg to differ. Tony Mitchell's draft stock is high and will remain high simply by what he did this summer and all of the buzz around him at the Amare and LeBron camps. NBA personnel were there and saw what he can do when competent people are handling him. However, if he's gonna be a 3 in the league... those airball 3's will need to stop and he'll need to get back to his 50% shooting from there.
  4. Yeah. Wasn't Dodge's offense one of the most prolific offenses between the 20's? Then, it's like the red zone is made of quicksand. Terrible.
  5. The guys look fragile out there. All it takes is for a team to come out and punch us in the mouth and our guys kinda fold. Lots of frustration, and I think that is evidenced by our best 3pt shooter tossing up 2 airballs while going 0-6 from beyond the arc last night while not being fed down low. Almost half of his 13 shots were 3balls. He had good looks on all of them. This time, instead of going down WAY early (a-la Creighton, & VA), the guys hang around for a while (as they should against freaking UTA!!), then get frustrated that they're not winning by 20 (as they know they should be) and kinda... *gulp*... quit? Very little transition offense. And once again, where the heck was Coleman and Patton? For me, I'm getting dangerously close to jumping on this Benford-bashing bandwagon.
  6. Well crap. I'd rather have WKY, or *gulp* even TX St! It's OK. C-USA is still a great spot for us to be... for the time-being. If UTEP/Tulsa/LATech/Rice decide to go somewhere else, we need to hope to follow them.
  7. any post trying to use a point Colin Cowherd makes to validate, is completely rejected by me. Dude is an uber-dummy.
  8. You bring up an interesting point... I just don't see this happening anymore. And if it does, C-USA needs to be in viewed as a better landing spot for the remainders, otherwise, they'll go MWC (especially KS, KSSt & IASt.) Else, they will form their own conference and we need to be in a position to join THAT one.
  9. ...or WKU's football, or WKU's any-other-program-besides-Softball...
  10. Watching all of this movement, I think UNT would be wise to join itself with LA Tech, UTEP, or Tulsa so that when MWC comes calling for one or more of those schools, UNT will have an ally. MWC as it currently stands, is not quite as good as what we would like it to be as compared to the current C-USA, but if by chance some of the schools who bolted for the Big East reneg, and the conference starts creeping East to Tulsa/UTEP/LATech, then it makes it look MUCH better than a depleted C-USA.
  11. For me, it's either UTSA, OR TXSt. One, or the other... not both. I'd like to guage interest in some MAC schools. Wonder if some of those schools would consider moving to C-USA? N. Illinois would be a nice target. Ohio, Miami (OH) would also be targets I would be interested in, especially if WKU joins up.
  12. Time to yank the schollie and go for someone else.
  13. There is certainly something to be said about some of the old church buildings in Europe (Hagia Sophia, Notre Dame, etc...) and even several in N.E. You're spot on, they're beautiful. You'll often-times find that inside those grand buildings, Sunday mornings are very liturgical, reverent services, which would be the exact opposite of what you would see at the cool new building I was referring to, which is almost like you're at a comedy club or something.
  14. Believe me, if we need leftover bleachers for anything, we have over 30,000 seats to chose from already.
  15. We left our old church in Plano because after our long-time, very solid pastor retired and the new young guy came in, we left a perfectly good building to build a fancy new place, then slowly, the Word was phased out of sermons in favor of principles and sugar-coating. By the time we left, you didn't need to bring your Bible to church because there was only 1 verse used (sometimes out of context), and it was put up on the giant screens while the rest of the time was spent posturing and providing life lessons. Slick new building though! The youth building was equipped with Xboxes and other cool stuff! I'll say though that after serving at a South Dallas church, gyms can be immensely useful in providing a safe haven for kids and adults alike who would rather ball than be out on the streets. "Coffee shops"? Not so much... maybe they can provide a safe haven for hipsters who would rather drink the latest organically-grown bean that some people in Africa/Central America grew that you've probably never heard of.
  16. I hope Cam is not another Jamize Olawale, where we have a star, but we're not getting him on the field...
  17. Easy. The Middle Linebacker is one of the best in the SBC, and will step into C-USA as one of the best MLB's as well.
  18. You're quoting a message board post? It may be correct, but I'm not holding my breath...
  19. Are we even sure UNT plays UTSA next year? If so, I would circle this game on the calendar if I'm RV and McCarney. Should be a lot riding on this game.
  20. Lol. I was watching the first guy and thinking... Hmm. Looks like he's doing everything right. No brutality at all. I mean, he's having to deal with some smart-alecking, not only from the guy he's wrestled to the ground, but also from the heckler with the camera. Probably had to call for backup and is just waiting... Then the second cop comes in like George Teague, and the smart-alecking stops (sans the camera dude under his breath). I like this guy. Then I realized that was the dude you were highlighting as needing to be defended... oops. It's very simple. Don't break the law, and you won't have officer Arnold-654, flying in to knee you in the head when officer do-gooder calls for backup because you're being a douchebag.
  21. Oddly enough: in Football, yes. In Basketball, no. I think that has alot to do with what was deconstructed in football over the past 7 years, and what was built-up in basketball over the past 7 years...
  22. Coach McCarney goes conservative after a pick 6 to try and make sure his team hangs onto the victory; loses, and gets slammed here for "quitting" on the team. I think I understand the sentiment, but "quit" is not the right term. At all. What if... Coach McCarney decides to continue attacking, DT turns the ball over again, or UNT stalls & still has to punt (maybe 10 - 20 yards further down the field), and WKU wins this way as well... what would you guys be saying? I bet it would be something like this: "Why didn't he go conservative and just run the ball to protect the lead and drain clock?!?", or something like that. Everyone at every level protects leads late in the game by minimizing TO opportunities via running the ball. I thought this was elementary? The answer should always be "NO!" to attacking for the sake of attacking with a small lead at the end of the game simply because we've already lost bowl eligibility. Hello!?! You Play. To Win. The Game! Protect your lead by running the ball: effectively. Solid, common-sense coaching by McCarney/Canales, poor execution by the players. I bet 100% of the players would agree with me. Now, I'm still VERY concerned with the level of talent we currently have on the roster (based on what we saw this year) going into our inaugural year in C-USA. McCarney is losing time getting "his guys" in here. That excuse goes about 2 years, max. Need some results now, and it's not going to be easier in 2013.
