  1. Barnett will be a perfect fit for SMU. I salivate over his hiring...the final nail in the coffin of SMU football.
  2. Computers, my boy, computers. They scan the ticket and then the info is fed to the big computer in the sky and the message is spit back to you.
  3. It might be a few days longer to get the tickets, as the athletic department is waiting for parking passes for the $1000 and above donors. Their lot is located across from the flag poles on the east side of the Super Pit in the parking lot located there. The rest of us just park in Fouts Field parking lot.
  4. I'll be there to sign autographs if anyone wants mine.
  5. You might call Utah and talk to Dickey...he has some slightly used black uniforms he could make you a deal on.
  6. Since the NO Bowl gets CUSA fourth or fifth, can any of them hang with Troy? In fact, could the conference winner of CUSA hang with Troy?
  7. Eddie Hardin is the alum who got the paint donated. He can be phoned at 940-383-1090 in Denton. Give him a calll...I am sure he would be glad to hear from you.
  8. You might give Ruby's BBQ a call....they try to have all NT games on that can possibly be obtained, and they have access to a lot of stations. However, as I have seen posted earlier, it seems that Texas will be blacked out for this one. As you may know, they are located on I-35 east just west of Teasley lane on the south side of the freeway.
  9. Committment information is fun in the fall, but doesn't mean a thing until February.
  10. Finally, academia gets it. Intercollegiate athletics is advertising and entertainment for the university. If used correctly, intercollegiate athletics can afford the opportunity to attract future student, make alumni proud and attract corporate dollars to the school. The good news for the academicians is that the NCAA is forcing athletes to pursue degrees and maintain a better GPA than in past decades, etc.
  11. Let's give a big thank you to the events staff who handled the 'parents weekend'. They got students and their parents to the game, and it really made a big difference on the student side. Thanks to Karen Selby and her staff for the promotion.
  12. Newspapers are in the business of controversy...it sells papers. A shot of the team all rejoicing at the end of the game whould probably have a tag line like 'despite going 5-0 prior to tonight, the Mean Green celebrate their first victory. The newspapers always love to jab with a negative.
  13. Good point 3xntgrad. I guess the reality is that if the team gets hot people will plan their day to come see them most any time.
  14. Now, if they will just move all the tip-offs to 7:30 so that our fans who fight the drive from Dallas to Denton can get to a game before tipoff. What difference does 30 minutes make other than the athletic department's hope against hope that the score will make the 10 o'clock sports in the area?.......and we know how much the local sports reports care about giving a North Texas score.
  15. I think that the announcers said that Navy was ranked last in the nation in pass defense. If that is the case, we will have a fantastically high scoring game.
  16. Since I have a degree in advertising art, I would be glad to do the lettering free.
  17. I trust that Todd is a man of integrity. That being said, the best quarterback will start for us next season, no matter his pedigree.
  18. I saw him, too. He looked like he was on his way to a luau.
  19. I was out at Fouts Field this morning and ran across Johnny Quinn. He is headed to Kansas City in the next day or two for a tryout there. He also said he has had some interest from the Vikings and one arena team. Best of luck to a great person and player.
  20. While the Hogs are obviously unhappy with their coach, isn't it nice to read an opponent's board that is civil?
  21. Sure, we were hoping for a quicker start, but we have some things going against us that is just the luck of the draw ( or should that be schedule)? We probably will be 0-4 by Saturday night, but will have played two pro franchises, a team that has five years of continuity and a league leading opening conference opponent. All in all I think that we are doing OK. Now, if we end up 0-7 or so, let's then start to cry. Until then, let's enjoy the games and sit back and take a deep breath. Life is good and life is better than last year.
  22. I need a little help. Does anyone know how to get in touch with Joe Hubbard? He has reserved seats next to me at Fouts and I need to contact him. Thanks.
  23. Have you ever noticed that there is not a school in America that doesn't have an alum show up for one of our games. Can you say job market?
  24. Pittsburgh Paints in Denton is located at 4127 Mesa Drive. As previously mentioned, it is located on the street just behind Denny's. Give Eddie a call at 940-383-1090, I'm sure he will enjoy hearing from you.
  25. Here is a bit of an update on the story of the stadium painting. First, it is my understanding that plans were made by the athletic dept. to paint the stadium before the donation of paint by Pittsburg Paints of Denton. This summer I was talking with an old fraternity brother ( Lambda Chi Alpha) and he said that his company was looking for a paint project for advertising purposes. His name is Eddie Hardin and he is the manager of Pittsburgh Paints of Denton. I suggested that there is no better project than Fouts Field, due to its location and the need for the project. He and I visited with Rick Villareal and Hank Dickenson and Brian Bethea in July. An agreement was reached, and all the new paint that you will see at Fouts was donated by Eddie and Pittsburg Paints. The bathrooms were not a part of the deal, it was already bid out before the offer from Pittsburgh Paints. Of note is the fact that one of the executives of Pittsburgh Paints in Houston is also an alumnus of North Texas. He was excited about Todd Dodge and the new direction of the football program and helped secure the deal. It is my understanding that this only the second time the paint company has ever done such a project...I think the other one is the stadium at Penn State. Anyway, those are some of the particulars. It is a significant contribution, as it allowed the athletic department to spend the money that they would have spent on paint for other things. While some are laughing at putting lipstick on the pig, I congratulate all parties for making the Fouts Field visits a little nicer.
