  1. SL had quite a few highly rated defensive recruits/transfers never be eligible or see the field. What could have been. On the bright side, Rayveon Hoston still appears to be working hard towards his dream. He's also got a pretty good following on Twitter and Instagram so hopefully he's monetizing that while he pursues his dreams.
  2. Yeah for sure the biggest flaw minus one of the best QBs at UNT, Mason Fine. Every other position was well evaluated throughout his tenure. We had defensive players go on to start at P5s and get some looks in the NFL (Hall, Hamilton). Same on offense with the transfers and NFL looks or in the case of Guyton, legit playing time.
  3. I'm pleased with Morris so far but this is such a trash take. SL had the number 4, number 2, and number 1 recruiting classes in CUSA from 2019 to 2021 (247 rankings). Recruiting wasn't the problem.
  4. Shaking with rage at these last few minutes. Not actually, but wtf. Missed free throws, missed bunnies, and a travel. Neat.
  5. Must be an interview question. AD: How do you feel about playing deep rotations or giving bench players minutes when you have a big lead. Candidate: I would never do that. Ride or die with the same guys no matter what. AD: When can you start?
  6. When the students come out, UNT MBB gets posted by basketball pages.
  7. Martinez shot about 42% from 3 on just about 4.8 attempts per game each of the past 2 seasons. He was first team all conference in 2021 averaging 13.6 ppg and 8.5 rpg. Second team all conference last year. Him not being more productive is an indictment on our slow pace and how many minutes he gets. He's averaging 19.6 minutes per game this season, his lowest since his freshman year when he averaged 19.7. And just for comparison on Martinez averaging 8.5 rpg 2 years ago, Ousmane is having his best season rebounding at 6.4 per game, granted Ousmane is playing about 9 minutes per game less than Martinez did when he averaged 8.5 rebounds per game. Still, Martinez needs to see the court more. He's capable and experienced.
  8. For this, we've got to get more people in the game. Same concern as previous years - the rotation is too tight. I know it's off limited minutes but Moore has our highest or second highest 3 point percentage. GET HIM IN THE GAME! And regarding Abou, Sissoko was a legit 4 star recruit to Dayton who has a very good mid major program. He needs to be seeing more minutes in these contests. With the amount of mistakes Abou is making, there's no justification in not having other bigs get minutes or more minutes. If Abou was playing flawless basketball, I can see where there'd be a drop in production but that's not the case so others need to be on the court.
  9. I'm more frustrated that our guys haven't taken advantage of this all season. If that's how it's being called, you know what to do to get the call when you're on offense.
  10. Am I wrong or is that 2 points in the past 6 minutes... these cold spells are killer.
  11. Abou showing off some hand-eye coordination on the alley-oop.
  12. Only 8 threes attempted so far. I'm liking the shot selection and ball movement with Stone cutting these past few minutes.
  13. Depends who they play in the conference tourney. If UNT stops losing to the Rices of the world and goes undefeated the rest of the way, we can creep back to top 50. A neutral site game against a top 50 team is a Quad 1 game so say FAU wins out until the conference tourney and loses to a top 50 UNT, it would be a Quad 1 loss. That will probably drop them 5 to 10 spots depending on how others around them do in their respective conference tourneys but they'd still be in at-large range. Like us last year, the margin is very slim. FAU has a slightly better resume than we did last year with the Florida win. Florida has 4 Quad 1 games in a row coming up with Kansas State, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama. If they can go 2-2 in that stretch, it would do wonders to validate FAU's win against them. Margin of error is very slim but the path is there.
  14. They're an at large if the conference tourney is this weekend and they don't win it. No team higher than 33 in the NET has ever missed the tourney in its few years of existence. Being top 20 and predicted 9/10 in brackets means they're an at-large if they don't win the conference tourney.
  15. I hear they're selling Bruce Hall and the Super Pit to pay for all of this. Hope the kids don't mind 3 to a dorm and parking lot graduations.
  16. Inflation strikes again. $100 just doesn't get you as far as it used to. In all seriousness, though, I'm not a recruiter. I'm not a scout. I'm not a former college coach. I don't know you but I don't think you're any of those things either. Looking at stars and offers is great. It helps us feel like things are going well. Or not. Some recruits will always slip through the cracks. Do I want a roster full of "hidden gems"? No. I think more often than not, those don't turn into star D1 players. Some do, though. And some end up being high draft picks and elite NFL players. Like Shaquil Barrett who had 2 D1 offers, one of which came from Nebraska at Omaha who shutdown their program shortly after he committed, Khalil Mack who only had 1 offer (Buffalo), Bobby Wagner whose only offer was from Utah State, Clay Matthews had no offers and walked on at USC, Jason Kelce had no offers and walked on at Cincinnati, Hunter Renfrow had 1 FBS offer from App State and walked on at Clemson, JJ Watt was recruited as a TE and was told to play on the OLine at Central Michigan so he left and walked on at Wisconsin. There's Cooper Kupp, TY Hilton, Carson Wentz, and the current back-to-back national champion Stetson Bennett, and the list goes on. Again, I don't want rosters full of hidden gems. A few will always slip through the cracks. Either they're too small of an 18 year old or they didn't attend enough camps to be noticed. Until this new staff proves they can't evaluate talent, I think they should be given the benefit of the doubt.
  17. Does anybody know what would cause his recruiting ranking to slide despite continuing to receive offers, including a Tennessee offer late December of 2022? Rankings don't make the player but I'm just curious as to what would cause repeated drops?
  18. Maybe the staff has them locked in a house until signing day like the LA Clippers with Deandre Jordan. Might be something to investigate.
  19. The same question was brought up in another thread about a UNT starter going to Ole Miss where his former coach Marty Biagi currently is. Would those Miami players have received offers once in the portal? Probably. Is it tampering if they went into the portal knowing Lashlee had a spot open for them if they wanted it? Probably. Sure, plenty of players enter the portal and don't find homes. It's a huge gamble on their future. If a player enters the portal knowing somebody already has a 'ship open for them, is it still tampering despite them having previously worked together? Would they have entered the portal if they weren't sure they'd get the offer or did they enter because the knew the offer was there?
  20. The Miami offense most certainly was a mess. I personally don't mind much since they're joining their former OC. It's pretty much the only exception I make when tampering is a question. Are you joining one of your former coaches who recruited/developed you but was fired or hired elsewhere? Yes? Ok, fine. I realize it's still tampering but ehh, I view it from the people's perspective. It makes sense.
  21. True. A difficult rule in a world built around relationships.
  22. Honestly, I'm just glad a CUSA school is getting some respect nationally. Wish it were us because I think we're better but at least there's somebody in the conference.
  23. Fair. I'm just questioning the morality between the two situations. I feel like they're not the same. At least for me, I'm not upset at a player joining a former coach, especially since we just fired the HC he's been with since he got here 4 years ago. I'd feel differently if Biagi weren't at Ole Miss.
