  1. I'll explain why my downvote. Fall practices start in August. UNT played week zero last year, before fall classes started. UNT has played bowl games after the fall semester ended the past 3 seasons at least. These guys make football-related commitments outside of the traditional school semesters but nobody has a problem with that. Now he gets a "free" semester without being part of the team and it's a problem? Edit: like @BillySee58said a bit above, he fulfilled his football commitment for this school year. Why shouldn't he get the full year of school paid just because the football season ends before the spring semester starts.
  2. Martinez had 13, too. I believe he's our 2nd best "volume" 3 point shooter after Perry. Would be nice to get him more looks.
  3. His play has been hurting us lately. I'd like to see Sissoko and Martinez in more.
  4. Game's over. Shut it down and light the tower!
  5. At this rate, FAU would make it as at large. NET ranking is too high. Being ranked in the AP helps them too. Anybody else needs to win the conference tourney.
  6. If we lose to FIU and the Cowboys lose to Tampa, I'm not vacationing in Florida anymore.
  7. Man this is weird and dicey. What stops a huge program from getting recruits they like but don't have room for an NIL deal to cover tuition and extra. Could they pay them to be on campus for a year while they work on their bodies without having them on the team then get them on the program the following year, effectively delaying their eligibility clock from starting until their second year? Now they've got 4 years of eligibility plus a redshirt because they weren't on the program yet? Where's the line?
  8. Let's see... 2 missed layups, Abou throwing a pass 10 feet above (I believe) Martinez who was open under the basket, a missed goaltend followed by a tech on coach. There's 9 points there. Some very sloppy moments.
  9. That and the offensive board/put back. He plays with great energy and never gives up.
  10. Feed Aaron Scott. He's our best 2-point scorer and has post moves and touch.
  11. Was thinking the same. He's playing with confidence.
  12. I don't have to follow the topic but you also posted it on a public forum. If you don't want any back and forth discussion on *your* topic, I'd suggest a blog or maybe even an actual journal. I also don't dislike the topic. I'm not the one who challenged you even posting about it a week or so ago. I think it's an interesting coincidence for UNT to usually move up or down based on the spread even though the spread has zero bearing on NET rankings. Houston didn't beat the spread (was -24, they won by 6) against USF on Wednesday and didn't drop in the NET rankings once again showing your observations are nothing more than a coincidence for UNT. Regardless, it certainly is interesting how it's generally worked out for UNT. Finally, I also enjoy following the NET rankings. If you don't check out https://www.warrennolan.com/basketball/2023/net, I certainly recommend it. You can select the team sheets options and it'll show all the Quad breakdowns and where our games fall in within the Quads. For some reason, I can't get it to show teams ranked around 100 and worst. Regardless, it's fun to sift through to see what movement elsewhere could possibly result in movement for us.
  13. I got excited about UNT basketball because my orientation group leader talked up this one-and-done transfer that was expected to go to the NBA, Tony Mitchell, and talked up the basketball program as a whole. I don't know how much of that goes on overall, though. Would be nice if they'd do a bit more to get incoming students excited. Maybe raffles for both football and basketball jerseys each orientation session and a makeshift tailgate at the hill for one of the meals. I recall part of my orientation being at the Super Pit but I don't recall the basketball hype video being played and I think that would be good to add. Can't do everything but if you're already feeding the incoming freshmen and already doing stuff at the Super Pit, why not add in showing the hype video and doing a meal at the tailgate hill. A raffle is also easy to conduct. Wonder what orientation looks like these days...
  14. I think Kai and Rubin both have that ability and wish they'd do just that. I wish we'd do it more as well. Depending on 3s is like constantly throwing deep in football: it's the quickest way to build a lead and quickest way to lose a lead. Eventually, the law of averages catches up to you. Sticking to 3s even when cold has already cost us 2 winnable games. I'd like to see us figure out different ways to score when we go cold from 3. Hopefully it includes force-feeding Scott in the midrange.
  15. Despite not playing a game yesterday, UNT moved up 1 spot. What was the spread against *day off*? If you remember, beating the spread against MTSU also resulted in a +1 bump. Curious about what indicator would have foresaw going up 1 after not playing a game.
  16. I've noticed it a bunch in basketball. The only current ones that come to mind in football who've gotten legitimate playing time are Siggers, Jack Plummer, and JT Daniels who's got to be on his 4th school but I'm sure there's more than just those three. Then there's guys like Latrell Neville who've never been starters but it doesn't appear he's going to find a home on his second transfer anyways. I don't like the second transfer unless the first was to a JUCO. I think when you look at guys like Siggers, JT Daniels, and Jack Plummer, it's easy to see where problems can arise moving forward especially for the G5s. I'd hate to become like a JUCO where guys transfer to for a year so they can build up their resume and jump back to a P5. I don't have an issue with transferring once because I realize 18 year olds are going to make bad choices but after one transfer, you've got to live with the consequences of your actions if you again feel you picked the wrong school. The only exception I think is reasonable is if there's a change to the HC or your coordinator.
  17. You're correct on that part, my apologies. We did not go up 18 points because of a 4 point win. We did it because 2 other teams we beat bumped up into the Quad 2 zone. One of those 2 teams we beat has since gone back down to Quad 3 zone hence why we only went up 1 spot despite beating the spread against MTSU. Beat the spread once, go up 18. Beat the spread again, go up 1. It's irrelevant to NET rankings.
  18. Is there any reason we aren't more aggressive going to the rim? We lost that lead because we got cold from 3 but kept chunking them up. Add in the missed free throws and we just could not buy a point but at least once you get un the double bonus, you get those two free throw attempts every time. We've already lost two games by going cold from 3 in the second half and it was nearly 3 tonight. Got to get better at preserving a lead.
  19. 75-73 for FAU with 7.2 seconds left.
  20. Gutsy shot. Kai's first 2 point completion was the game winner.
