  1. Wow!!! Am I reading this right that our guys held them to 14 second half points? Incredible defensive effort.
  2. I expected a come-back because that's what G-Mac teams do but I'm still surprised they've already erased that 19-point deficit. Clean up the turnovers and UNT should run away with it.
  3. They were both JUCO but the original poster included JUCO as a category so both those guys immediately came to mind. If only traditional, I have to say Trice considering he was one of the leaders of that 2013 defense.
  4. The players aren't your property. Buying tickets, merchandise, etc... does not mean you're owed a performance by individual players just like taking somebody out on a date and paying for their meal doesn't entitle you to sleep with them. Players can come and go as they please... well, that's between them and the coaches. If the player is leaving at the end of the season anyways, there isn't a whole lot you can do to stop them from opting out unless they make it required by the scholarship which I don't think you can do. Who can prove somebody isn't hurt, nursing an injury, under the weather, or anything else? You aren't entitled to a certain player getting on the field just like that player isn't entitled to playing time if a coach sits them for whatever reason. It's a two way street and it appears people are upset players are now doing what's best for them. Anyways, good talk. I know many of y'all disagree. The players still get a voice, IMO.
  5. Sure, have your opinion where you trash players who sit out bowl games for health concerns. That's your right. Don't be surprised when those same players don't remain involved with UNT in their later years, though. Plenty of players and family lurk on here.
  6. The original post wasn't about KD and his bowl game specifically (other than the injury) but about people complaining about players who sit out bowl games to avoid injury. Every player makes their own choice for what matters to them. KD made his and got hurt but that was his choice to play. If a player chooses to sit for those reasons, fans shouldn't be so quick to sh*t on them. That is where the problem lies. We cheer those who play and destroy those who don't despite them giving UNT years of tough play prior to that one final bowl game. It ain't right.
  7. And now he'll be a UDFA fighting for a roster spot 7ish months after tearing his ACL. Y'all are really missing the point that these late injuries greatly affect these day 3/UDFA prospects chances of latching on with a team at all, effectively marking an end to their playing careers. Even highly ranked prospects drop significantly in stock following a bad injury. Jaylon Smith comes to mind as he was a top 5 prospect on most mock drafts, destroyed his knee playing a meaningless bowl game, and fell to the second round which affected his contract length and value. Lower rated prospects don't get that big hype to fall back on. A meaningless bowl game at the end of their college career isn't worth the risk if they get hurt. Yes, injuries can happen any time. That doesn't mean they should be expected to take unnecessary risk playing an exhibition after the season is over if they're not coming back the following season.
  8. One of the few times I wish nobody knew where Denton was. I think it'll be the assistant Terry. It's not like they're in the market for a new HC due to poor performance and they need a complete rebuild. Keeping Terry means continuity. Certainly helps he's already 5-1 this year.
  9. It's not bitching about winning, it's taking notice of areas of weakness. This is, after all, a UNT fan board which is meant to discuss UNT games, players, coaches, and other things "UNT." I'm sure the coaches and players have been working on correcting those issues. "Sometimes it stings..." yes, and I'd rather it not sting in the C-USA tournament like it did last season against LA Tech. Otherwise, winning "a boatland of games" as we did during last season's winning streak becomes irrelevant.
  10. Really need San Jose State to beat Nevada tomorrow. They're currently 99 in the NET and we need them to remain ranked 100 or better to be a Quad 2 win.
  11. 100% our biggest weakness is closing out halves. Don't understand why it consistently happens but it's going to bite us against decent-to-good teams as it did against FAU and UNCW. I think attacking the rim more needs to be part of the solution. Get the other team in foul trouble, get in the bonus, and get after them. During that late second half drought, 4 of the 5 misses were 3 point attempts. Factor in the slow pace and limited possessions and the result is an 8-2 run by WKU. WKU took 14 more free throws than we did over the course of the game. Many of those trips to the line were from loose ball fouls on offense (Stone had one) or fouls getting back on defense (Abou when he lost the ball on offense). Can't be giving the other team points on our possessions like that.
  12. Spread was -4 at tip-off. We won by 4 so did not beat the spread. Went up 14 spots to 39. Here's the reason why: Grand Canyon jumped up 18 spots to 94 making it a Quad 2 win instead of Quad 3. They beat Sam Houston on the road which was a Quad 1 win for them.
  13. Spread ended up being UNT -4. They did all of that just to spite you.
  14. Thank God UNT is playing tonight. Gave me a reason to change the Mavs game.
  15. Ryan is an obvious one but I kind of hope we can get a different major business, like Peterbilt, involved. Not because I have anything against the Ryan family, just hoping a new sponsor like Peterbilt can bring new revenue streams and partnerships in other ways.
  16. I agree. Somebody will use an extra 6th or 7th rounder on him, especially being a QB. Low risk, high reward. Plus, these guys are playing into their late 30s now. He may be 29 but his football age is much younger. If he ends up being a serviceable backup, nobody will care about age. For me, I'll be rooting for him and his family. We've been clamoring for more UNT players in the NFL. I'm not going to crap on Aune just because he had some frustrating moments playing for our team.
  17. Have you looked at the other teams around our ranking every single time or are you only looking at UNT? Point spread is set by Vegas and moves based on incoming bets. It has absolutely nothing to do with NET ranking which but I guess if you've set in your mind that point spread matters, I can't change your mind on that. UAB just went up two spots yesterday without playing a game. Wonder what the point spread against "day off" was.
  18. Could it be that FIU is Quad 4 and the NET places very little value on those games unless you lose? This is where conference weakness affects us. FIU win isn't quality enough to keep us from moving down when other teams are playing Quad 1 and Quad 2 wins all over their conference slate. The fact we moved up from 56 to 50 between FAU and FIU tells you we moved up because other teams also lost. We then drop down some after FIU because it's the lowest Quad win you can get. I'm not expecting a WKU win to move us much but MTSU should be Quad 2 as long as they don't drop before we play them. A win there should push us back into the 40s.
