  1. Of course it's not "on a whim" but why does it matter? I don't view this as a coach randomly recruiting a guy on a random team. Gaddie is joining a coach he spent the first 2 years of his college career with. That entire staff he started with is now gone. He's going to join a coach he had a great experience with. We don't know what conversations took place which means we don't know who approached who first. If Gaddie called Biagi and said "hey, I loved playing for you. Is there a spot there for me," does that change things? College recruiting is all about relationships. When Morris was hired here, there were threads and comments on this board about him possibly bringing some Washington State players with him. It didn't happen, but some were hopeful. Would it have been any different? If a coach is randomly poaching players from another roster who he's never had any business with, I think that's much different than somebody reconnecting with an old coach who was instrumental to that player's success early on in his career.
  2. I absolutely agree with you in principle. I just think it'd be hard to prove. Coaches and players become like family. I'm sure it's not uncommon for a coach and player to maintain contact when a coach moves on. I don't think Gaddie going to Ole Miss has anything to do with tampering as it's commonly understood. I think this is a player who, after spending 4 years here, his head coach was fired, staff was replaced, still had eligibility, and chose to go join a former coach who he had a good relationship with. Between players just testing the portal waters and picking up offers, joining/following former coaches, and legitimate tampering, I'd guess tampering happens far less than we'd imagine.
  3. Is it really that suspicious considering his apparent relationship with Marty Biagi who's now at Ole Miss?
  4. ESPN's latest bracketology from 1-20 has FAU as a 9 seed. Definitely at-large territory if their next loss isn't until the conference tourney. https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/page/bracketology/ncaa-bracketology-2023-march-madness-men-field-predictions
  5. FAU being a 10 or 11 seed likely means they'd be an at-large if the season ended today but they didn't win the CUSA tourney.
  6. Wonder what UTSA has in place to get away from this. Alamodome ranked 9th biggest eyesore in the US of A. https://www.wfaa.com/article/sports/alamodome-makes-list-of-ugliest-buildings-in-the-us-san-antonio-texas/273-38be36f4-b9dc-47f6-8a85-f36437e4f75f
  7. UNCW wins by 11. San Jose State loses by 1.
  8. Games to watch on 1-21: #101 Grand Canyon vs #79 Utah Valley and #128 San Jose State at #33 Utah State. A Grand Canyon win will almost certainly bring them back to the top 100 making them again a Quad 2 win for us. San Jose State needs to go up 28 spots which will be tough to do off 1 game but a Quad 1 win at Utah State would greatly help. Bad news is UNC Wilmington is now ranked 132 in a weak conference. They've dropped 3 of their last 5 with the wins coming against #352 Elon (0-18) and #323 Stony Brook (5-13). Next up is #358 Monmouth (1-19) on the 26th. Turning out to be a bad loss.
  9. I'm not complaining about ticket prices, I'm saying you have to be competitive for the occasional attendees looking for something to do on a Saturday. Sure, once the program is more successful, more people will probably show up but that does nothing to fill seats today. The basketball program's holiday promotion may have cheapened prices but I got 6 people who never attended UNT to drive 45 minutes to an hour plus to go see the FIU game. They would have never gone if not for the promotion. Not for lack or income but because when the tickets are that inexpensive, it's hard to say no to a low-cost family outing for the kids to enjoy. If every regular got 6 extras to attend, the place would have sold out. I don't know if you have kids or not but I'm coming from the perspective of a father with young kids. I'm not going to blow money on tickets I won't use "to support the program." I'll support the program by buying tickets and actually going. My comment about the Mavs game was simply to give an idea of what people in the area are spending for a pro sporting event. You want butts in seats? Be more competitive. Otherwise, stop crying. Most of your most hard-core local fans are already showing up. It's the casuals and random you need to get. There's SMU and TCU to compete with in the immediate area. Being competitive has to be intentional. Not "when we win, they'll come." Every season, SMU gives free tickets to city of Dallas employees. This past season, they gave 4 free tickets per employee to the home opener against Lamar and 4 free to another game (I can't recall which one). Does it work? I don't know. Maybe it gets a few more in the stadium every now and then but at least they try. Dallas has about 14,000 city employees. If every single employee redeemed their offers, the stadium would exceed capacity. Clearly most employees don't redeem the offer but at least their program is trying. They're not focusing on their alumni's income and proximity; they're trying to get the randoms in the stadium. This issue is hard to tackle. You can't just depend on winning more.
  10. Not when I looked. I go through the UNT website every time I go to a game. They were listed at $20/ticket for end zone seats. Maybe because it was homecoming, I don't know. Regardless, the whole post went way over your head. My family prefers basketball and we go to multiple UNT basketball games per year and have made it to the CUSA tournament as well. We live over an hour away with no traffic so it's a day trip each time. Back to football, I asked my family if they preferred to go to the FIU football game or the Mavs game the night before considering the price was the same. They chose to see the NBA phenom. You're not going to win over the casual fan or random family who doesn't care about UNT football by charging the same as an NBA team to watch a world-wide superstar. The pricing isn't competitive when looking at other options in the area. If I just want to take my non-UNT affiliated family to a random sporting event, I can spend $20/ticket for a UNT football game or $5/ticket for a Frisco RoughRiders game. The choice is easy. You can "ffs" all you want but these are the facts. There's too much to do in DFW. You have to be competitive or the families won't come.
  11. That's terrible. Those cold Dasani waters don't stay cold for long in 100 degree weather and you run through so many when it's hot.
  12. Somebody mentioned the Frisco RoughRiders not having a problem getting butts in seats, win or lose, but look at their ticket prices. For the first round of last year's playoffs, the RoughRiders were selling tickets for $5 a pop. Even if people are only going for one game, it's better than those seats being empty. If you have to drop season ticket prices "to be fair," do it. Those fans will appreciate the loyalty and you may get more season ticket holders at the reduced rate. I was surprised a few months ago that I could get tickets to a Mavs Friday night game against Toronto for less than tickets to the FIU game the next day. Yes, the Mavs tickets were in the nose bleeds but still surprising considering one is to see an NBA superstar and the other was to see a .500 college football team. The value isn't there for casual fans or just people looking for something to do on a Saturday. On the flip side, I know many who don't care about baseball who will go to RoughRider games with their kids just for the budget-friendly outing. UNT should do the same to at least get people to the games. Win a few thrillers and some of those fans will look to return. You can do all the giveaways, concerts, and half-priced beer days you want. None of it matters if nobody comes to the games to see it/take advantage of it. That said, to answer the question, I would do free UNT shirts or hats to the first 10,000 fans, green rally towels (sweat rags) on every seat for every game, and straight up lower the price of tickets. I'd do a drawing every game where a ticket number is pulled at random to win some kind of UNT gear, be it jersey, helmet, or other. For the hard-core fans, I'd set up an in-stadium auction of some autographed UNT gear where the player(s) earn a cut of the auction earnings for the gear they signed. Maybe make the auction idea for upperclassmen only to reward them for sticking with the program. Lastly, let's get some good free Wi-Fi for the non-football fans accompanying their spouse and an increased number of quality water fountains so people don't have to pay to keep their kids alive in 100 degree weather. I realize some of that isn't tied to promotions but still.
  13. He tagged the program, the HC, and Marty Biagi. Safe to say he and Biagi have a strong relationship.
  14. Can we stop getting Ousmane the ball on offense. He's just not there offensively. Edit: I mean he's not there lately. He's struggled the past month.
  15. Wonder if we're over thinking him going to Ole Miss and the whole notion of tampering. Edit to add Gaddie's tweet is a few years old from when Biagi left UNT for Purdue. Don't see every player making a post about every coach when they leave the program.
  16. I always see posters say it'd be nice to have a former UNT player as a coordinator or even HC. I think Quinn can be that guy for us one day. Thanks to him for dedicating so many years to UNT and congrats to him on the new gig. Can't wait to see what else he accomplishes!
  17. Careful, now. I made a similar comment on another thread and was told to "go to hell you piece of human shit." Stay strong.
  18. We have what, 7 transfers coming in from other FBS schools? It's a 2 way street. Are we mad about those 7 guys not sticking with one program as well because those threads seemed very positive and welcoming of the incoming players.
  19. We should beat the William Marsh Rice Institute for the Advancement of Literature, Science and Art but we're going to need a big game from our bigs. Rice's 6'11' forward had a triple double the other day and leads their team in rebounds and assists per game. Then there's Olivari, with three 30 point games on the season, averaging 19.1 ppg. The team averages 82 points per game and just under 38 boards per game but appears to play no defense so the opportunities will be there to put up points. That said, slow the pace, play our game, and we should win.
  20. "And while No. 15 UCF again carries the banner for the programs beyond the Power 5, hoping to repeat last season’s achievement as a national seed in regionals, keep an eye on No. 24 North Texas. A regional finalist a season ago, the Mean Green return almost everyone." https://www.ncaa.com/news/softball/article/2023-01-17/2023-college-softball-rankings-preseason-top-25-d1-softball
  21. The problem is, this was already happening before it was allowed. Maybe it wasn't as much money being tosses around because it had to be more hush hush but it was happening regardless. The only thing that would have helped is major sanctions for violating programs but the NCAA needs those big programs so much they couldn't afford doing that. That's a separate problem but if the NCAA did more to even the playing field across the FBS, they could tap into millions of football fans who don't currently watch their alma maters on Saturdays and maybe they wouldn't depend on a few huge programs for ratings. The NIL has just made it to where guys who previously wouldn't get money are getting some which isn't horrible. The big prospects were always going to get paid, whether under the table or openly now that it's allowed.
  22. I agree with you but it's not the kids' fault. Rich college football fans were so desperate to see the school they attended 20+ years ago win a national championship that they created a broken system. The kids would be silly not to take advantage. I think you said it elsewhere that it's the system you hate. I don't like it either but I also can't place fault in a player trying to milk it as much as they can.
