  1. So, I know emotions are high around the program, (for a lot of good reasons). But I wanted to put a more analytical breakdown of our transfer portal situation. I used this link here: https://247sports.com/Season/2022-Football/TransferPortal/?institutionkey=24114 as the basis. I will start by saying we are the second most transferred out of team in CUSA this past year with 14. Brammer, Martin and Both Murphy's aren't updated yet, but i added them to ours. The average amount of players who entered the portal per CUSA team is 9. The low is charlotte with just two departures to the portal. Two teams had players leave and re-enroll at their school. Rice and Southern Miss each had 13. Marshall lost their starting QB to the Virginia Tech. Western Kentucky lost a first team CUSA DB Shannon Bishop to the Golden Gophers, First Team OL Mason Brooks to Lane Kiffen's Ole' Miss, and second team all CUSA wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley to Penn State. UTEP lost Jacob Cowing, First Team CUSA wideout to Arizona. UAB lost all conference honorable mention DE Antonio Moultrie to Miami. There are more important starters and role guys moving on in the Portal, but this is just some context to the changes going on in CUSA. This is not entirely a failure on the staff. This is a snapshot of a changing CFB landscape. And what should be a wake up call to a lot of coaching staffs that you need to be recruiting your own players and investing in them just as much as the next wave of recruits. It's like having a hot girlfriend, she's got options so you better stay on your game. The murphy's will likely take a step up in play to the P5 level. If they don't get that type of offer I don't see why they wouldn't potentially come back (unless the family reads this message board, then oooiiieee). In all of this grandstanding we do about the lack of adaptation on the staff's part to how recruiting is working now with the portal, our fanbase seems pretty stuck in their old ways of: You are either loyal or a traitor. Maybe we as a fanbase are just as (un)adaptive as the staff we criticize. These are business decisions being made by family's. Yes North Texas can get you into the NFL, Darden even broke the draft drought, but objectively there are better opportunities in at the P5 level. And guys like Kason, just want a chance to play. He's not going to get that here. Most, if not all, of us don't know the conversations and situations behind closed doors. To me, the grad transfers lived out their commitment to UNT. Brammer gave us a whole educations worth of playing time. I understand wanting to go up against different and maybe better competition and learn some things from some new coaches. Kason, is by all measures a true team guy. He paid his dues he played when his number was called, he was responsible for a lot of sideline energy and leadership. North Texas didn't think he was the guy for them despite subpar QB play. He lived out his commitment too. In the appeared category it's 16 games played total, with two starts from Upton Stout. Cinque Appeared in 5 games, I believe mostly on special teams or filling in for a fairly banged up secondary. Finally the did not play category. I think some of these hurt for mainly one reason. Lineman at this level are mostly developed. Having younger lineman you've been working on exit after some time in a college program seems like a bigger setback to me, but i'm just some idiot with a keyboard and google, not a coach. Graduate Transfers: Jacob Brammer, OL - Starter Kason Martin, QB - Back up Starters: Gabriel Murphy, DE/LB Grayson Murphy, DE Appeared: Upton Stout, DB Deonte Simpson Kenneth Dotson Jordan Rucker Cinque Williams Did Not Play: Chris Cassidy John Brunner Jacobi Johnson Rayvon Crum Davontae McCrae To close, I would say that i'm fairly young in my fandom (2013 grad). But this program is in a much better position than it was even just since I started here. Our recruiting classes have been the highest ranking as they've ever been (this year aside), the facilities are night and day better than they've ever been. Basketball is on the up. Wren and co continued our upward progression in conference realignment. There is a lot to be grateful for. We all want the program to succeed, we all think we may hold those secret keys to unlock the sleeping North Texas Giant, but it's going to take time. Maybe it was the right time to fire Litrell, but for whatever reason, financial, contractual, loyalty, whatever it is, that isn't the situation. I'm not sure bombarding every recruit or offers thread with the negativity or on player parents social media is really the type of thing that adds any attraction to coming to UNT. Love my school, grateful for anyone who plays here for any amount of time. I was never good enough to do so. I wish every former and future player success wherever they go. /End Rant and GMG
  2. He's one of the higher rated recruits to come here under mcccasland. I hope they have him ready come tourney time.
  3. If he wants a school that plays on defense, we are that place. I do not know what type of offense we run, anyone got any insight on that? I'm pretty basketball illiterate.
  4. Anyone have any insight as to why he isn't getting any minutes? Perry taking a hard spill, or anyone else, getting injured out of the 7 man rotation could be really damaging to the success of this team. Just curious why he isn't seeing the floor much under mcasland. Is it an effort thing? Is it a defense thing?
  5. Can someone help me understand why it feels like the sky is falling in recruiting to everyone? Since the 2019 class UNT has finished in the top 5. That usually involves some last minute additions for this staff. Do we not think the staff will end somewhere close to that again? Obviously, where we stand now is not great, but we got time.
  6. This team is defensively the best in a long time around these parts. My concerns are on the offensive side. Tylor has the tool set to be the guy to take over these games, he just isn't always that guy yet. Javion would straight take over games. And if we could get a little bit of that magic with the incredible defense and effort this team puts in they would be problematic for anyone. I would say also, I know basketball recruiting is different, but I would love to see grant land a big fish or two in that area these would be the next steps for the roster as it exists as I see it.
  7. Almost certainly the second year minimum. Which at the current bargening agreement is $645,000
  8. "We saw Novil post an 85.6 run-defense grade in his limited role in 2018, but he still had a lot of room to grow as a pass-rusher, as he managed just a 60.4 pass-rush grade that year. In 2019, he flipped the script and raised his pass-rush grade to 81.9, which ranked 13th among qualifying FBS interior defensive linemen. He recorded five sacks, one hit and 17 hurries across 364 pass-rush reps, and his 10.4% pass-rush win rate ranked 13th among the 44 qualifying C-USA interior defensive linemen."
  9. There were a couple of guys who ran track in the last five years for like one season i thought... I remember the story but can't remember the names.
  10. That same trait for loyalty is why he is still at UNT and hasn't taken one of several offers for greener pastures.
  11. Just want to say I am clearly the smartest on the boards as I thought he should play RB all along. He's nothing like Brelan, but has he earned the right to flip you off after every touchdown yet?
  12. UTSA could be the worst they've ever been and coming off a 30 game losing streak, I still think we will get their best. It's a real rivalry, and the dislike runs deep. We should have blown them out of the water last year, and we let them hang in their for way too long. That's actually the biggest thing i'd like to see different this year, we need that killer instinct until we can put the second string in.
  13. I was talking about that renfro. thanks for filling in the mental blank I was drawing.
  14. His brother is Under Armor All-american and future NFL player Drake Jackson. Go watch that highlight film....
  15. Maybe he learns a few things and comes back as the next head coach of UNT. Would be happy for him to learn a few things at a program like that and comes back with some california connections and new wisdom. Congrats and GMG.
  16. The defense was markedly better this year... Our Linebackers played out of their minds and we were anchored by two CB who have NFL potential as at least UDFA... The defensive line was productive enough to allow EJ and Garner to get A LOT of sacks. If you think the only way to go but up losing the talent we lost you're in for a whirlwind.
  17. Ben Hicks was a decent college QB at SMU. I can think of a time we would have been glad to have him. I know he beat us once... he may have beaten us twice? More times than Mason has beaten SMU...
  18. Did you ever think we'd be having guys transfer out because of too much depth? lol
  19. You guys do realize 11 USF players were suspended for the game, right?
  20. Loved this one and the one before it. You guys should do one for the guys who red shirted or are a little deeper in the depth chart in how they may contribute.
  21. The reality is, this kid has kept his options open this entire time. He stated it in his commitment notice that his recruiting was still open. I don't blame him for his decision and wish him the best, but this is the least surprising decommit of the litrell era. Every other kid in the class was signing an LOI this week. North Texas is actually in a position this year they don't have to beg for the kid to come and can (did) fill his spot with someone else. You can't blame either side on how this went. The kid is hoping one of the big schools doesn't land their fish and he gets to fill that spot. He already has two P5 offers he might be able to take in Virginia and Syracuse, if he thinks he's better off waiting to see how the chips fall for himself. That's his gamble to make. I just hope it was his decision and not a family members. Good luck and GMG.
