  1. I'll take Mizzou as the best 8 win returning roster. Woolridge is farther away from being at an all-conference level. He has a long way to go. Lots of really good PG play in this league. Lawson needs major improvement too. Both should benefit a lot from the new style and staff. I think Brice will struggle in the new style.
  2. Umm Scott Drew wants out of Baylor and could end up being targeted by Indiana. His roots are in Indiana. So Baylor could be looking for a coach sooner than you think. I dont think McCasland would jump to Baylor this year, but you never know. Baylor could go after him or someone like Scott Cross
  3. It isnt football. They had John Brady before that. Would anyone be shocked to see Johnny Jones show up at ASU?
  4. Would give us an identity on both sides of the floor. Mainly on defense.
  5. Any where from a 10 to 12 seed. If I was big boy school I wouldn't want to see them.
  6. Yeah that hurt them, but Texas St was playing at a different level. They played about as perfect a game as they could play.
  7. The way they did it was a joy to watch.
  8. So true. I think most of the fan base would be okay with Harper, bc of his pretty good winning % and getting teams in the tournament. We could do a lot worse than Harper with a guy like Fran or Paul Hewitt. But I agree with you that Harper isnt the type of guy who could turn UNT into a CUSA power.
  9. I think it's a 15 win team +/- 2 in either direction. 20 wins could happen with some luck.
  10. That's a bit of a stretch. You can't just patch together a team at the mid major level and expect 20 wins. This team wasn't more talented than MTSU La Tech ODU Rice UAB WKU UTEP The job is rebuilding a program. I'd hate to see the next guy come in and try to assemble teams the same way Benford did. We may win a few more games, but won't ever climb to the top of CUSA. We should be around.500 next year, but competing for a CUSA title is 3 to 4 years away if we hire the right guy.
  11. If you want Combs to stay and Brice to flourish then go hire Darrin Horn from UT
  12. If he leaves so be it. It won't make or break next year. Same thing for Combs. No one on this roster is irreplaceable.
  13. Ive always thought the quick fixes & roster turnover were a huge problem. He failed to build his program like most good mid major schools do.
  14. Well I can only support at a 100% level, but why do I have to immediately have to buy in? Why does anyone have to buy in right away? We all deserve the right to wait and see. Did not getting a few fans on board bring Benford down? Did it somehow cripple the basketball program? Benford crippled the program with his inability to coach & develop players. RV set the program WAY back by not dealing with it. Now we are hoping that someone can come in and restore some credibility. Its a long road back to being good at basketball and it doesn't have one damn thing to do with whether or not I supported Benford when he got hired.
  15. Compare our roster to the rest of CUSA & its not as good you think. Its probably middle of the pack or maybe just a little bit lower for CUSA. Our turnover % is not as bad as you think. What has hurt this team is and all of Benford's teams is offensive efficiency & effective FG%. The offensive strategy was never well organized. A lot of times the only way his teams could create wide open shots was off of the fast break. Of course there was the occasional good ball movement possession, but those were rare. This team and all the other teams struggled to create good offensive possessions. Its been bad shot after bad shot. Im tired of watching guards go 1 on 1 or 1 on 5 drive into the lane and throw some wild ass shot up. Offensive eff rankings NCAA CUSA(Conference Only Play 2013 - 272 10 (Sun Belt) 2014 - 271 11 2015 - 280 9 2016 - 240 12 2017 - 318 14 Even only playing conference opponents his teams couldn't get it done on offense. Teams are shooting 75% from the line against us.
  16. Finding a guy behind him will be key too. He needs to work on his FT shooting if he will be handling the ball late. Statistically Lawson is going to be that guy. Lot of good PG play in CUSA Dixon (FR) at MTSU, Bracey (FR) at La Tech, Caver (SO) at ODU has been playing really well. Evans (SO) at Rice Elmore (JR) at Marshall Davis (SO) at Charlotte Im not saying Woolridge wont be a top PG, but he needs a damn good off season to keep up or catch some of these guys.
  17. I know this question is directed towards Andrew, but I take a stab at it. Assuming everyone is healthy & returns I think your looking at a middle of the pack #CUSA starting 5 with a very limited bench. The growth of Lawson, Brown, Woolridge is essential bc they will be the guys IMO who could turn that starting 5 into one of the better ones in CUSA. In the front court Combs & Temara should be one of the better duos in CUSA. They should allow the new coach some ability to mix and match how they attack defenses. My biggest concern is depth & the bench production.
  18. 17-11 This year. Would improve our defense, but I dont think he is that good of an offensive coach.
  19. Forbes may be a guy that get the NC St job, if they miss on some higher profile guys.
  20. True you could play Green at the 4. Which he has been playing mostly They are pretty much a 5 out offense anyways. Im not saying they should sit anyone, bc it wouldnt make a difference in growth at this point.
  21. I dont think it would amount to any difference in next year. You wouldnt have to sit Brown. You could play Woolridge at the 1. Brown at 2. Lawson at 3. Sit Green & Reese. Although at this point when the season is lost just let those guys play. Lawson, Brown, and Woolridge need to have big offseasons. They are going to be the guys that lead the team next year. Im not saying that Combs & Temara wont be significant contributors, but they wont be the keys to success. When on the floor Lawson takes 30% of the shots 92nd in NCAA. In CUSA play he takes 27.6% of the shots when playing. That is the 9th most in CUSA.
  22. They dont have to boast that. They just landed two damn good coaches. TCU took a coach away from a better basketball program than theirs. They lured away a really good basketball coach from a basketball conference. Why do you need a coach looking for a big payoff opportunity? We had that in Benford he tried to mash together rosters with multiple transfers every year and it didnt work. Id rather find a guy that is really confident in system. That he can develop a team and a program through recruiting 4 year guys. Sure a few transfers like one every other year are okay as long as they are very talented. Look at the top 10 mid major programs this year. Their starting 5 avg playing at that program at least 2 years for every position. PG and SG avg 3 years playing at that program. Out of 50 players listed as starters at least 7-8 were guys that transferred in from other programs. Id like to see the next guy dedicated toward building continuity in this program.
  23. Horse shit statement. We are in the middle. Even with the crap that has transpired since Benford has been here this is still an attractive job amongst mid major programs.
  24. I think we could pry some low level mid major (D1) guys away for more $. Bottom line is we need a guy who knows how to coach the game and develop players. Acquiring talent wont be an issue like it is in football.
