  1. How’s a TD pass underrated? If your looking for underrated look to Andy’s TFL on the last La Tech drive. Probably the 2nd biggest play of the game IMO.
  2. Yards really arent the issue. We are avg in that area yes when you take away FAU. Its points 34 ppg when you take FAU out. That would be in 100's of scoring defense. Pretty much giving up a TD every time when our opponent crosses the 40.
  3. I thank you for explaining. I do agree that our defense needs to be better. I think the disagreement comes from how good it actually needs to be in order to be CUSA championship worthy. I think you want a top 20 defense. Me I'd be okay around 60. Here are some of my thoughts Since 08 CUSA Champions have been ranked on avg around 40th in total defense. Giving up on avg 358 yards per game, and 22 points per game. We know UNT aint going to reach that this year. So in those terms this isnt a championship worthy defense. But there is another way to look at this. What about the offense being so good it can carry the defense. Since 08 CUSA Champions have out gained their opponents by an avg of 88.5 yards per game and outscored them by an avg of 13 ppg. UNT is out gaining their opponents by 36.5 yards per game but for the season they are being outscored. And really in the offensive era since about 14 CUSA champs are out gaining their opponents by 156 yards. So the offense is no where near good enough to carry the defense. Of course this could just be one of those crazy years.
  4. Ugh this is just dumb. Oklahoma has a terrible defense so how are they so high? Well Id certainly like to play UTSA's schedule. The only offense they've faced in the top 60 of S&P was ours. NT has faced 4 SMU how could they possibly be ranked at 35 with a defense at 101 and 97 in S&P. West Virginia is at 116 so how are they ahead of UNT. Explain it
  5. The liability is in the design. You cant expect these guys to lock down WRs with no help. When you bring 5,6, or 7 rushers you better get to the QB. Not getting enough from the pass rush
  6. I dont think you can have any knee jerk reactions with this team for awhile. Take every W that we get. I think early in the season you will see mostly ugly victories. Games that they grind out. By the time we get to conference play I hope that they will be comfortable in their roles.
  7. The question is will McCasland play a 5 guard line-up at some point? Also where was Duffy? NVM just saw he had foot surgery 3 months ago. Hopefully he gets healthy soon
  8. Not really that crazy Marshall has got a lot of pub, but haven’t played that tough of a schedule. Haven’t faced a top 80 offense since NC ST in week 2.
  9. Yes. And it sends a message of accountability. I doubt SL does it in season bc he’s not that type of guy, but if he did it would be understandable.
  10. Was the extra quarter going to make him a better player? No. He didn’t deserve to be out there. It was pure stubbornness by this staff leaving him out there to take more shots. Same thing with Guyton. It was a chance to let the backups play and get some development. SL was probably hoping to get some kind of momentum going into the next game by hoping that they would end on a good note. Unfortunately by leaving the starters in he probably did more damage. Stupid & Stubborn
  11. Not as good as AP, but I view their running styles very similar
  12. Yeah I’m sure it will amp up the UTSA crowd contingent. It may be a 60-40 crowd.
  13. They run about 2 plays less than we do, and while I agree that their numbers will even out I still think they have an explosive offense. Their ability to hit on big plays from PA, the run game, and Sturm scrambles makes them explosive. Its old school explosive, but still the same.
  14. Im going to disagree. I think they rely on big plays 6.7 yards per play Ranked 30th in explosiveness on advanced stats 2nd in the conference in 10 yard plays per game
  15. I don’t think people are acting that way. People are excited bc UNT put themselves in a position to contend for the west crown. They went on the road and defeated a team that analysts thought could challenge UTSA & La Tech. The excitement is justified for fans. Yes the team has issues and it’s fair to criticize, but don’t hate on the fans for being excited.
  16. So that means people need to be fired up. There should be no cooling it. We want fans and students to know that this is an exciting football team.
  17. There are only 25 teams in FBS that are keeping opponents under 20 ppg against FBS competition so far this year. 15 of those 25 teams are ranked in the top 25. 9 of those 25 are scoring more ppg than UNT is against FBS Competition 5 of those 9 are ranked in the 10. Only 1 team in CUSA is keeping opponents under 20 ppg against FBS competition Only 1 team in CUSA is scoring more ppg against FBS competition than UNT UNT is 6th (CUSA) in ppg scoring margin against FBS competition. -5.2 PPG difference. (Off 33.8 ppg Def 39 ppg) Under Dodge 2010-2011 -5.8 PPG difference against FBS competition (-10.9 before he got fired, +1.4 after he got fired) 2009-2010 -9 2008 - 2009 -27.5 PPG difference 2007 - 2008 -20.0 PPG difference
  18. Nobody has exposed the USM secondary YET. They haven’t faced a group of WRs like this one though. So we could make some plays
  19. I’d take that bet. I’m sure there is one. Ohio St comes to mind
  20. And Coach K, Bill Self and more. This thing isnt done yet.
