So, our 11th year back into D1A and all we are getting is smoke and mirrors? How much could it possibly cost to hire a journalism student to report on the practices and input it into the website?

Now I'm officially jealous.

I'll weigh in on this. I'm on the monthly charge for the Premium Content on the athletic site. You can watch football games and basketball games, or whatever, when you absolutely cannot attend a game. I live 350 miles from Denton, so it is a good thing to have. But, I am disappointed that after almost three days of practice, all we have is interviews with players (which is very good stuff), and DD's media day comments. Again, good stuff. But why can't we be privy to what's going on at the practice field? A simple training report covering both practices would be nice. I mean, am I asking for too much?

UAB ovresigned on recruits, now MTSU has this three star that will be on the team this Fall. From the SBC message board: "...Offensive lineman Jamaal Lewis (6-foot-4, 280 pounds) has inked scholarship papers with MTSU after originally signing with University of Alabama-Birmingham on National Signing Day in February. Lewis practiced in shorts with the Blue Raiders Tuesday, as he must complete a five-day NCAA-mandated acclimation period. He has already been certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse and will be admitted to MTSU pending acceptance of his final transcript. "He's a real good player, and we recruited him at South Carolina," Stockstill said. "When we got (to MTSU), he hadn't qualified, so we didn't continue to recruit him. Then he got qualified right before signing day and signed with UAB. ... Well, UAB oversigned and couldn't take him, so they called us to see if we were interested and we were." Lewis, who won't turn 18 until late in MTSU's season, was a standout at Butler High in Huntsville, Ala. He was named to The Huntsville Times Super All-Metro team the past two seasons and tabbed honorable mention as a sophomore. He was also named to Huntsville's All-City squad three straight years and All-Region twice..." What the NCAA should do is pull a scholly or two from UAB for next year for oversigning this year. Either way, MTSU benefits and the player doesn't have to sit out a year.

If OU releases him from his scholarship, does he still have to sit out a year if he ends up at NT or another D1A school? What the hell, offer him preferred walkon status.

I think Adam Venegas needs to go on the defensive side of the ball. From the Athletics website- "High School/Personal: Received All-State 6A First Team honors ... Was named one of the top 11 players in the state of Kansas by The Topeka Capital-Journal ... Ranked second on North’s defense in the Eagles’ point system, racking up 30 solo tackles, 29 assists, seven tackles for loss and a team-high six sacks ... Recorded nine career sacks and started on a North team that lost one game ... Participated in the 2003 Shrine Bowl Game ... Was state champion in wrestling ...

From Football Scoop: "Tulsa's head coach Steve Kragthorpe gets a 6 year extension through 2011". I have always thought and still believe that this is where UNT missed the coaching train.

If the dealership, or anyone associated with the dealership, was part of this violation and OU monetary supports, won't those individuals be banned from any OU sporting event? Like forever? And Pettersen drives around in a Lexus for six freakin weeks and no one at OU notices this? Particulary the coaching staff? Doesn't this open the door for players to simply "look" at cars by test driving them around for six weeks at a time and then turning them in when the parents they can't afford the payment? Time to move on to the next dealer....surely Norman has a BMW dealership. Nah, I think I want to test drive that Infinity FX45 for a while.

I think SMU, Rice, and Tulsa all left the WAC for CUSA because Cinncinatti, Louisville, and USF left for the Big East when it got raided. UTEP was added to round out to 12 teams. SMU, Rice and Tulsa bolted the WAC because of the CUSA openings. Just like NT would do if the opportunity presented itself. The chances of that happening to us now, SBC to CUSA, are slim, remote, and none. Bottom line is, we blew it.

For all of those who would like a UNT move to the WAC, remember the Big West. It really wasn't that bad of a conference, was it? With the WAC, the addition of Hawai, San Jose, Fresno St is not too bad either.

All I know is, when I hear the name Big East, a BCS freaking conference for crying out loud, I think of South Florida. Yes, <10 year old football program and they are now in a BCS conference. I use to laugh when I heard they were making the transition from 1AA to 1A for football. Now I'm crying.

Also, don't we have another Alumus that lives in Hawai - NMGreen? Welcome aboard!

Settle down. No one is blaming Jamario on anything. At least I'm not. I merely want to know what the battle plan is in case he gets hurt.

Well if Jamario is injured early on this season or can't come close to meeting his Freshman year results, NT will be sucking wind this season. Who do we have backing up Ja Mo?

Some may view this as just another OOC game that has no real meaning in winning the Sun Belt Conference and going to the NO Bowl. Let's not get our boy injured before conference games start.
