  1. I agree that it isn't a need but it is a nice tool to have in the shed.
  2. Holy Cow! I just realized who Chuck Langston's qb coach was while he was OC at Lamar last year.
  3. Let me put it another way. The Houston Texans have won the AFC south the past two seasons with a 9-7 record, not because Bill O'Brien is a good coach or because the Texans are a good team. They win the division because of how bad the other teams in their division are. It is great they win it but understand that if they play in ANY other AFC division, they aren't even a playoff team, let alone conference champions. Being in a bad conference isn't something to go puff your chest out about. As I have said before, if the Sun Belt is not created Dickey never wins a single conference championship. Tell me he would've beat Boise just once between 2001-2004, if he wouldn't, then he only won those championships because of the startup conference full of former-FCS schools and FBS programs nobody else wanted. Other than luck, Dickey would have zero titles. We can celebrate the 2001-2004 teams, that's fine, but don't celebrate Dickey as a good coach, because he wasn't. Division 1 ADs knew it, and that's why he was still with us after 4 consecutive titles and 25 straight conference wins. They knew those wins didn't matter because he made a career out of beating up on bad teams, plain and simple. Celebrate the players, not Dickey or Flanigan for that matter.
  4. I still don't see why we need it right now if these teams don't have baseball: Colorado, Colorado State, Idaho, Boise State, Iowa State, SMU, Syracuse, Temple, Tulsa, UTEP, Utah State, Wisconsin, Wyoming. I agree baseball would be nice to have but being competitive in the football and basketball must come first. Otherwise, we are just spreading our limited resources even thinner, making us worse off all the way around. I like the Us'n.
  5. It's great he won the conference he was in. I'm just saying that doesn't make him a great coach like Fry and Mitchell. He was an average coach at best, same as McCarney.
  6. So I was going through 247s player rankings and I came across a few grade failure but one thing I didn't expect was to come across a quarterback that was rated higher by 247 than Jalen Guyton (our highest rated player by a good margin), yet had zero offers. Any recruiting insiders know why this might be? I falsely assumed that every 3 star got snatched up unless it was grades. http://247sports.com/Player/Judd-Erickson-94148
  7. Yes, I agree, this is true. But, all else equal, you don't want the lack of one being the reason a prized recruit a different program over ours because they had one and we didn't. It's an arms race, everyone knows it. Kids have that wow factor about them and they want to see shiny, new, fancy things on their visit. Coaches too. No way we get a coach like Littrell or a player like English/Guyton if we are still lifting weights under the Fouts bleachers.
  8. Dang, you got me. I honestly didn't even realize it was a standard ceiling painted black.
  9. My opinion is that a Texas division of the new conference would be phenomenal. That'd be away game heaven for me.
  10. It really is nice that everyday I can sit in my cubicle, look up at the ceiling and feel like I'm in a FBS football locker room.
  11. Whether he picks us or not, get our hat on that table on TV! Looking at you @Cooley
  12. Make it happen broski! @Cooley At the VERY VERY least, get our hat on the table with OU's like Starkel did with A&M's for us. It will look good for us on TV.
  13. Same thing they said about Ron Meyer. I'm loving Yellock. I wanted him more than LeBlanc when we hired LeBlanc.
  14. According to 247 and Rivals, Florida A&M and Memphis. Scout lists only offer as Memphis. What UAB is doing screams small time which is exactly the way RV would have approached it. I'm for going in a different direction.
  15. Yep, and it always ends well. Enjoy your NCAA sanctions. We'll still invite you to Denton every other year if the NCAA lets us.
  16. Or Paxton Lynch, a 2 star with only offers from Memphis and Florida A&M. Many of you would've lost your mind with the signing of a recruit with such a poor offer list. Except that Dodge's team played Clemson 35-10 in his final season which was the biggest point differential of that year. Mac inherited that team. Littrell inherited a team that was blown out 62-16 against Iowa and then 66-7 at home on homecoming to a FCS school, a level Dodge never played against. The 2015 team eclipsed the 25-point deficit bar 6 times. The 2010 met that 25 point differential mark once but never surpassed it, let alone 6 times. Also, don't forget, this is not athletic money just laying around. There is a donor that wants to put up a large contribution to build this. If the donor wants to build you something, you listen. You don't say, yea, "No thanks, we'd rather try to build up a large war chest for when we have to fire our 2nd year head coach." Which we should NEVER lose to, especially in such a record-breaking way.
  17. This is where I, and Jordan Murray, went to high school. I was long graduated before this was ever built but this is what they are practicing in. The Cowboys, Bama, etc, have used these facilities for practice. This is similar to the old Fouts argument, you will have a hell of a time selling a kid on your program when the facilities are worse than where they went to high school. Also, I get being tough and all for two-a-days and thew first day or two of weekly practice but there is no reason to do walk-throughs and shell days in the heat. Have your kids at peak stamina/hydration levels for gameday. Another thing, peering eyes can see through IPF walls.
  18. Well, on second thought, Kiffin did hire his brother from Ole Miss where he had allegedly committed Level 2 offenses like Davis did at Bama. Although there is the curious case of David Saunders who left Ole Miss and went to ULL. Ole Miss got the kid glove treatment while ULL got it pretty good. Who knows? I see it as Frank Wilson seeing UTSA as nothing more than a stepping stone to get a P5 gig. He doesn't care if that program burns to ashes in his wake. Littrell however, seems to be building this thing for long-term sustained success. He is doing it all the right way with high character guys(although I'm still leary of our new OL coach). I think Littrell was the better hire and I don't care what the 247 rankings say.
  19. Full Article It seems like the worst that could happen is they get increased oversight or fire him.......unless he commits violations while on staff at UTSA, then..........
  20. Texas Tech has an opening too but they passed. Frank Wilson is the only one willing to touch this guy.
  21. UTSA don't care. If anybody is going to stir up the NCAA, it's these guys. Recruiting alleged felons, hiring coaches under NCAA investigation, what's next?
