  1. I, too, am in favor of calling for increased expectations while simultaneously removing tools for higher achievement.
  2. Who is looking at pictures of football players from just the waist down and do those kinds of people care about what team those legs played for? Inquiring minds want to know.
  3. I would look for it to come around the end of January to beginning of February depending on the record. It puts us at the front of the line as a job that has been open for a little while and we can advance talks with agents of interested candidates. We are not the top of the pecking order, obviously, so there will likely be some movement up top, but we may be able to move with those teams if we are available earlier and get the guy we want, whomever that may be. If I had to throw a date out, it would probably be the 4th or 5th of Feb to give a new coach time before the next game.
  4. We did this a few years ago in the NC if you recall.
  5. This happening may become my sports Christmas wish right behind a Mean Green bowl win.
  6. So this is as rare as I thought it was. This is definitely something that says the arrow is pointing up.
  7. They were out at tailgating for every home game. They would have loved to sell you a ticket and calendar.
  8. Out of curiosity, when was the last time a first year HC at NT got us to a bowl game? Has it ever happened?
  9. Member when we beat Tech? Member NCAA Tournament appearances? Member 20 win seasons?
  10. Will he be able to get to 100% while playing a lot of minutes in games? If he is truly playing hurt (and it sure looks like it), then it would be best to rest him to get him back healthy before conference play.
  11. If this was even year 2, I could possibly be convinced that it might work out, but this is his first year and he needs to be focused on setting the right path.
  12. I know, but it is worth noting it for those that may not see the joke.
  13. Because our AD is broken and he should focus on fixing the whole, not just basketball.
  14. Exactly. The argument that we should stay home and recruit is out because you can't recruit. Another thing to sell, added practice time, and no ability to recruit during that time either means we should take an invite should one present itself. Turning it down does nothing to help build the program for the future, regardless of whether we feel it is "earned" or not.
  15. I believe that the bowl season is during the recruiting quiet period, so being at home doesn't do much for recruiting.
  16. Just because I think we should take advantage of a bowl if offered, I am desperate? Not sure I follow your thought process there. UTEP is a winnable game, Southern Miss is a winnable game. We can be 6-6 at the end of the year, but 5-7 is within reach. That result, given where we were last year, would not be the bear minimum, it would be a tremendous improvement over a 1-11 season. Just because we end at 5-7 and go to a bowl doesn't mean that people don't want more than 5-7, but we can look at this season as a building block for the future. The extra practice time that bowl teams are allowed makes our players better and gives us something more to sell to recruits. Just because the record isn't what would probably deserve a bowl, it is still a great opportunity for the players to get better and a tool for the coaches in recruiting. Don't mistake a bowl appearance as accepting that 5-7 is an acceptable result outside of this season.
  17. If we go this year, we will have won a bowl bid with the rules in place at the time and would therefore go to a bowl. If 5-7 is the threshold based on our circumstances, then it is the threshold. It would be silly to turn down a bowl because we don't feel right about it. The extra practice time and recruiting boost would be helpful in advancing towards a better season next year and would help us compete for a conference championship. The bar to get a bowl game is lower than it used to be, but we should still not hesitate to accept the advantages that it provides to us if it is available.
  18. Since when was sports not entertainment?
  19. If you can rewrite the rule book in your favor, why leave?
  20. I don't entirely disagree, but if schools get together and agree to set a cap on salaries, then they are colluding and it becomes a legal issue and it goes away. The money has to dry up to make it change.
  21. Besides this being collusion, I just don't see how this would ever work. What is the incentive for the big programs that can afford it for participating? Until revenues no longer meet the value of a good coach, they are going to keep paying top dollar. I would say that programs should not offer a coach big money before he proves that he can be successful at that school. If he proves that he can win there and he brings in revenue, then it is worth having a discussion about paying big money based on performance.
