  1. I can get on board with this after initial wth reaction. He's exactly fitting the mold that Wren/Mosley have been setting for every other coach at UNT. I also really like defense. Our freaking name is Mean Green. You can't be Mean giving up 35+ a game. So just hoping he isn't just an all offense HC. If he takes anything from Littrell's tenure, it should be that lack of focus on defense is what got him run off. By the time he brought in Bennett, his rope was very short and just ran out. Hit the ground running and give yourself a chance.
  2. None of them really move the needle with the exception of Riley…and even then he only excites football insiders. The casual fan knows none of these dudes. Which is fine. Perry being part of those terrible Beaty Kansas teams and then being out of work for two years is very concerning if he is the front runner. I know very little about him, though. I want to know who they are bringing with them. Whoever can build the best staff wins my vote. Most of this list are guys who have been linked to high school recruiting and/or winning in the portal. I’m assuming that’s table stakes for our AD/Pres.
  3. Umm, yeah. It is for me. You’re either a gamer or you’re not.
  4. No to JT Daniels. Having watched a few of their games, he's an interception waiting to happen. Especially in the 4th quarter with the game on the line.
  5. There was a lot of looking the other way down there, but the most obvious sign that something was wrong was when he brought in the LBer from Boise that got kicked out for assaulting his girlfriend. I think the timing of the charges there makes this hard to completely follow/pin, but that dude caused enough trouble that even BOISE couldn’t justify keeping him. Briles and Bennett knew that he was trouble and went and got him anyway. It was that move that raised enough eyebrows around the Big 12 that serious investigation soon followed. So those acting like it’s unreasonable to hold a parent accountable for their kid’s behavior need to stop. Parents don’t get to pick their kids. College coaches do. Briles and his staff overlooked serious character flaws repeatedly in favor of talent and wins.
  6. So you’d take Dan McCarney over Jeff Traylor? I’d go back and take Littrell’s first 3 years in a heartbeat. Then I’d tell him to take the dang KSU job. I want guys that are hungry and still on the up, able to attract great assistants and recruit like a sonofaB.
  7. Give me Emmett jones or Garrett Riley. Probably prefer Riley due to having a front row seat to watching him get player after player at smu and now tcu. Both would bring huge upgrades in recruiting immediately.
  8. Traylor has literally run the same exact offense for as long as he's been a coach. I watched this when he was HC at Gilmer high school and my wife's cousin was their starting center---probably 15 years ago. The QB is a distributor to above average / elite running backs and receivers. He's not asking his QB to make overly difficult throws. He just needs him to be another running threat who is reasonably accurate. Harris is great, don't get me wrong...but Traylor's system is solid and doesn't require a prototypical QB with crazy arm talent to win.
  9. Uh-huh: 8-5 11-2 12-1 12-1 14-0 12-1 10-3 13-0 9-4 11-1 13-1 12-1
  10. Both his ASU and Boise tenures started after other coaches really built those programs up. While he somewhat maintained them (not really for ASU), his output was noticeably less than his predecessors.
  11. He should have left for KSU. We were on a tremendous upswing and so was he and his staff. We have not been the same since that prolonged flirtation. That LaTech game on the same day as the Mean Joe statue unveiling is still one of my top 5 best gamedays even though we lost the game. That crowd was awesome and gave us the best North Texas chant of all time. Since he decided to come back (or negotiations fell through) everything changed almost immediately. We got absolutely destroyed in the bowl game that year, with his very best team. Then Harrell and a few other assistants left and he completely whiffed on Bodie Reeder, ruining Fine's senior year (almost unforgivable). It's just been treading water since then...but I do agree that he has raised the floor here now. We actually look and act like a legit FBS program now, and I honestly can't say that we really ever resembled one in my 25 years following this program until the last couple of years. So thanks for the memories. It was the best of times (Fine and his NFL receivers, Arkansas) and the worst of times (SMU and virtually all winning teams beating us down). Good luck in the future to Seth, I'll always like be a fan.
  12. Ok, so say you can get him by the donors, the students and fans…and even the media storm. Can he still recruit? I say no. The single biggest reason for his success was he was a fantastic recruiter. His classes weren’t always the highest ranked on signing day, but they dang sure found game changing players and got them to Houston and Baylor. I don’t see that happening for him again…but who knows.
  13. Been there. Last year. Daughter was a senior in high school and didn’t really even consider North Texas even though she has been to every home game for her entire life. She was in the womb for the big Baylor blowout at Fouts. Wife is a Baylor alum and spent the whole game sick in the bathroom. After the Portland St game she wrote a letter to the team. So that was pretty crushing last year. She asked the same questions as your daughter. She chose Arkansas and went to every home game there this Fall as a Freshman. But she still came back home and went to two North Texas home games this Fall. Both wins. She braved the Rice game weather and even recruited a fellow Hog to come with us. I’ll be there Dec 17, plus the family. Daughter will be home for The break in time for the game. All but the wife are green blooded hooligans…and her blood is only a slightly different shade. 😉.
  14. We had just hit Horton on a deep ball over the middle a drive or two earlier. On that play Horton ran a route that looked to take the safeties with him over the middle again. We got a 1:1 outside as a result and Aune took it. Ball was just under thrown and the DB made the play. Not a dumb call. Just didn’t get executed. You can maybe question the personnel there. Like you said, redshirt freshman with one catch? You’d definitely rather have Shorter (or any number of guys) on the end of that.
  15. Curious where you found the parking info. Everything I’ve seen says the Alamodome lots are all reserved for UTSA season ticket holders. If that is the case where do you park? Any recommendations?
  16. I have to agree on the game day experience around football and basketball. It’s bad. Tailgating environment is the worst I’ve seen since we first started allowing it in 2001. Wren seemed to be making improvements right up until Covid struck…then we never really recovered. Hard to say what happened since I don’t know what all was being done behind the scenes.
  17. Are we sure he hasn’t been in Denton calling plays since mid-season last year?
  18. Attendance for the last game of the season (when held the weekend after Thanksgiving) has been horrible for as long as I've been around. No students on campus and the weather is frequently horrible. Considering all that, I actually thought the attendance was better than what I expected coming in. Sure, half the people left at halftime, but it was steadily raining and the radar did not look hopeful by that point. We had more there Saturday than we did last year when we had 11-0 and ranked nUTSAk visiting. Granted the weather was slightly worse last year...but not by much. I wish we would end our season a week earlier. We aren't a P5 and we don't draw like one. If that changes, fine...but until then we aren't bringing kids back from Thanksgiving with their families to come watch a .500 team play a game against a G5 school in bad weather. Also, last thought on this. I sit with a UNT staff member at every game and he had an idea to make that last game a free game for all UNT faculty and staff. With it being Senior Day you might get some of them out to wish their students well. You, also, know that those folks actually live in and around Denton and are more likely to still be around. Maybe we are already doing this, but if so, he didn't know about it.
  19. Serious question, has any team fired a coach immediately following a loss in their conference championship game?
  20. That’s not what I said at all. I just think we are now at least respectable. In the past when a hire goes bad, it goes BAAAD. Littrell has elevated the floor for performance here, at the very least. He’s also helped raise expectations…and he’s probably about to become a victim of those expectations.
