  1. I think that’s too simple a view. If money is being made, then the players deserve a part in that. I have no issue with that. What I have issue with is that because there is so much money to be made now, too many bad apples have spoiled it due to inaction or inability of the collective to come together to create rules to keep the games fair. Now we have a system where everyone (players, coaches, administrations) is in it for themselves because that has become the game. It’s no longer about staying together and building a team. It’s about making as much money as you possibly can while you can. There is no sport in that.
  2. Good job killing the fun with inaction, Presidents, ADs, everyone involved. Once sport becomes only about the money, it’s jumped the shark and time to reboot.
  3. It already does and has been that way for a long time. I suppose you could say that the 10 or so programs who have all been buying players at an elite spending level have the differences settled by coaching and other factors, but I'd argue that the SEC and Bama have long been spending more on players under the table than anyone not named Texas. Texas gets nothing for all the money they put in and maybe throw you off the scent of what's been going on? In the 10 years that the CFP has been held, there have been 15 unique teams participate. Here's the complete list: BIG (9): Michigan (3), Michigan St (1), Ohio St (5) SEC (12): Alabama (8), Georgia (3), LSU (1) Big12 (7): Oklahoma (4), TCU (1), Texas (1), Cincy (1) ACC (7): Clemson (6), Florida St (1) Pac12 (3): Oregon (1), Washington (2) Indep (2): Notre Dame (2) Just look at the schools who have participated 3 or more times in a 10 year window. Heard anything about how those schools recruit?
  4. I don't like the transfer portal combined with openly paying players with no limits, hate it, in-fact....but this is an odd take to me. The guy left a starting job in the Sun Belt to come to UNT. Why would he do that then? Same reason he left UNT for Cal. He already showed his hand, so nobody here should be surprised that this is his behavior.
  5. They draw flies. BBall they could actually be a serious force b/c they won't ever have vast swaths of empty seats or have their entire stadium sold to the opposing fans. But they are never going to get back to the truly big-time b/c football will always hold them back. It, also, remains to be seen how much they would be willing to fund their program should the ACC fall apart and they found themselves back with the G5s. They fell off almost immediately after Larry Brown left.
  6. To the first 2 paragraphs...Kim Mulkey would call him a quitter and never speak to him again. 🙂 Now...as to the last part. Not every coach is in this game to just win games. Many/most of them are in it to develop people and build relationships. This current reality is going to run some of the best off and attract a different kind of person and coach.
  7. I hate smu, but I have to hand it to you. This is first rate trolling. He stays at usc and he’s Big10…and in this mythical “big 3” without changing jobs. Reality is that he’s avoiding a hot seat or firing and landing in a spot that likely isn’t as tough within a few years.
  8. CougarQueen is understandably butt hurt after that loss. Tough way to go out. They don’t call it March Madness for nothing…injuries happen, and it takes some luck to win the whole thing. Still don’t have to come on our board and act like an @ss.
  9. It's amusing that these smu trolls are as thrilled as they are over this hire. He was at USC for ELEVEN years. FGCU was a long time ago. He recruits at a high enough level that they may be able to get out of the cellar of the ACC, but he looks a lot like a Will Wade type guy to me. Expect trouble and underachievement when up against the really big boys. Good luck....NOT.
  10. I definitely appreciated his talent and seeming ability to help keep us from the 5-7 minute scoring droughts we used to see from our teams. I attribute a lot of that to improvement to him. But, as others have said, either we were going to have to change our style or he was going to have to take a different role. I'd prefer to not have lost him, but he's one where it was a bit of a square peg round hole and I wish him well in his next spot. I would add, I assume that his minutes in the NIT reveal that our coaching staff would not have wanted to lose him, either.
  11. First time I can remember us getting just flat out embarrassed in 5 years.
  12. This. Especially disturbing defense out of him down the stretch. If he’s gonna no show on D, he better score 30.
  13. FAU no showed today. Northwestern gets credit for sure. I’ve never seen them look so bad.
  14. Well then I stand corrected…got fooled by the dang announcers tonight.
  15. I’m gonna miss Rubin Jones next year.
  16. It hasn’t been quick. It’s always been unbalanced and about spending the most money to win. The difference is that now we’re not building facilities or spending on coaches, it’s direct players out in the open. Bama and the SEC have been the most egregious cheaters by illicitly spending on players for the past 20 years. So it’s quite ironic to see them leading this discussion. They know they can’t compete with truly big money if direct pay to players is allowed legally. Schools have consciously bailed on this system in the past. Ivy leagues and U of Chicago come to mind. At the end of the day the goal should be to advance the education of the population of people and region each school serves. If Congress has to get involved, I hope they understand that as priority number one. That’s the part Saban gets right. Unfortunately he’s also been the most visible figure on the side using football to make big money for TV.
  17. Yeah, probably went too far with that one. But in general I’m becoming more of a draft a QB every couple of years unless you have a Brady, Mahomes, Peyton type of guy. Keeps you from over spending on a mediocre QB and allows you to invest more in other parts of the team/roster. Once you find the guy, by all means roll out the vault to keep him. Same philosophy should apply to college coaches.
  18. I don’t mean to crap on a decent season. So I’ll stop after this post. I’ll take this season over the years of Benford and Trilli…but it’s not up to the JJ and Mac years and that is concerning to me. I don’t want to start slipping and I’m genuinely rooting for Hodge. But he doesn’t get 5 years to prove it. Good coaches win quick. Time for him to step up and prove he’s got it NEXT YEAR.
  19. We went 1-6 against the CUSA Tagalongs this season. Fact is we were worse. We beat up on the supposed “better AAC.” Fact is the Tagalongs made this a better conference. Obviously Houston is a huge loss…but we’re better than what was left.
  20. For me, we were technically still very well coached. However, our roster was not built to win. Hodge didn’t step out of McCasland’s shadow with this season’s effort. Got to be better at roster building. Staff needs help too.
  21. Alright Edwards, this offseason slow down on the cross over step back three. Next season you’re gonna be a juggernaut if you can just stay in control on that shot. Hodge: Get us some bigs. We’re freaking unbalanced.
  22. We need some guys who can score inside and draw fouls. We got some calls tonight but those refs sucked and called every little thing, which mostly benefited FAU. When we’ve played teams that can get to the line and the refs are playing along we’re deficient and struggle to keep pace.
  23. Refs have made this unwatchable basketball. These are two good teams. Get out of the way and stop ruining the game!
  24. I've grown tired of "realignment" talk. It's the most overblown game of musical chairs ever. The rich and power hungry football schools just continue to consolidate and all of us peasants keep trying to kill each other for the chance to join them....but there are no new seats added. Just removed.
  25. I had the game on in the background and missed this somehow. Must have left the room when this was going on. Anyways, I just kept marveling at how engaged their crowd was DEEP into the second half of a game where they were never really within 20 points of Texas. They got their doors blown off but that crowd stayed until the end and cheered loudly the whole time (I finally turned it off with 3 minutes or so left, so not sure how many made it to the bitter end)....but WOW. I have to say I was impressed with that aspect. There are not many schools or fanbases that would have provided that kind of support. Definitely not Texas fans if the roles were reversed and the game was in Austin...and definitely not here in Denton.
