  1. Working here, absolutely fine. HOF, absolutely NOT. Take TP. If he were to make it in the pros, he's going to be listed as a Kansas State player/alum on every single bio that is shown from this point forward. He simply cannot be a UNT HOF player when he'll be known by everyone else as coming out of KSU. TP was awesome the past two years here for us, but he made a choice and left. The NIL is a reality now. However, the money KSU is paying him is his reward. You do have a choice. Stay and be immortalized in our HOF. Leave and take the money. You don't get both. We need to set our standards higher, and stop thinking small time.
  2. I'm rooting for Aune to make it. I really am. Seems like a genuinely good dude and agree that he was always a classy ambassador for UNT. However... Stats are great, but why so many have a negative memory of him has more to do with watching the games and knowing that WHEN he threw an interception it very often cost us ball games; or turned games around in the other team's favor that we had been winning. What we can't say, at least those of us that are mere spectators, is whether all of those interceptions were his fault or the receiver's. Many looked like he just flat out missed accounting for a defender sitting on routes and threw balls right to them. I don't know that because I don't study the tape...but I think most casual fans see those kinds of plays and just blame the QB. At the end of the day, the team was a few plays away from being a 9+ win team last year and a multiple bowl game champ the last couple years...and the most memorable of those plays were bad interceptions.
  3. Definitely a cautionary tale. Interesting that every stop (from originally commitment to Tamu) was a step down in competition.
  4. I know I said you gotta get used to rooting for the shirt only and expect this kind of crap to happen…but it freaking sucks. Screw college sports right now. Like actually Eff off.
  5. College sports can suck my @ss right now. This sucks for UTSA and sucks for us losing shorter. Who actually wants this current state of constant tampering and transferring to be the new normal???
  6. Agreed....and negative comments only posted after he commits somewhere else. Implying that we would have taken him back and kept all that bad teammate talk quiet.
  7. I’m somewhere in here. I think there is a real chance that the defense is a lot better, but that the offense is a lot worse. Doesn’t seem to jive with Morris’ history of usually fielding top offenses. Just having trouble seeing that based on the QB and oline play so far this spring. Maybe these guys will make a massive leap over the the few days, off-season and through fall camp.
  8. Sounds like Morris is still running with the 1s. So was it just last year, or also likely this year? I haven’t made it out there yet, so appreciate the reports and thoughts of those of you who have.
  9. I don't understand offering so many courses online. I mean, I do...but what's the point of all this brick and mortar going forward if all (or a majority) of your classes are online? How will we get parents and students to fork over tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars for an education? Personally, I think online should be offered by technical and community colleges only. Brick and mortar, 4 year traditional colleges and universities should prioritize the in-person teacher access and specialized nuance to the education you get from their programs and professors. Maybe this belongs in the eagles nest, but I'd love someone to explain the strategy to me. If online courses are still granting access to teachers in the same way (which by way of watching my daughter take online college classes, I highly doubt) then what buildings do we need to provide in the future? Are dorms still a thing? If kids don't need to stay on or near campus, what happens to student life and all the activities to keep them busy (sports are part of this). Curious....
  10. Sadly I picked nutsak. I don't see schmoo sticking around long or I would've picked them. Obviously. In basketball it would be great to become rivals with Tulsa and Memphis. That would mean that we're still winning a lot of games and in the hunt for the conference championship more often than not.
  11. Hurts to lose him, but this is one I expected after the new scheme/DC was announced. Good luck to him. He has a bright future.
  12. The fact that the mayor sat front row yesterday tells you everything you need to know. Apparently this is happening. Gift horse? Not sure. I think we'd be better off with a smaller arena that helped create more of an atmosphere. If that is what the city wants to build, so be it. But I doubt it. I've been to a few of these city based arenas due to doing time with my daughter in competitive cheer. Those are the types of events that Denton wants to compete for...and they generally need more floor space than a basketball only (or basketball first) arena like the Super Pit. So it'll be big and boxy and generic. Pass.
  13. There is not a good enough excuse in the world for not throwing a party for this year's team. Yesterday was not it. Doesn't have to be a parade...do what CMJ or NM Green proposed---quick stand-up pep rally behind the Admin building or a party over at Eastside. I could not care less if Mac and the defectors choose to show up or stay in lubbuttocks. Would be great if they did, but don't let these players miss out on what will be a life-long memory. It's also a recruiting tool for our current student body and fans...seeing the school have some actual fun after winning would go a long way to helping get more excitement around the program and will help attendance long term.
  14. This...which is possibly why I don't have the same affinity for him as Jones. I think my earned UNT "nut and gut punch" protector immediately sprung into action and never allowed me to think of him like one of our own. I always expected him to leave. Doesn't mean I am not grateful he came and took us to such heights so quickly. He belongs in the HOF. Just means he doesn't get the "beloved" tag like Jones and now that he's gone I won't follow him the same way.
  15. I second this. Heard from guys who coached on staffs with them both. Not saying Mac isn't great, but Hodge has a "special" tag on him. Time will tell how well it translates to HC in D1, but my expectations are high.
  16. Mac was a great coach. Quite possibly the best we've ever had. However, Jones was a great coach AND was beloved here. I've read about, followed and cheered for Johnny Jones at every stop he's been. I highly doubt I'll do the same with Mac. Maybe I'm wrong and will follow him after some time passes...but I never felt that Mac was invested in UNT the same way that Jones was. My personal opinion, which is worth nothing.
  17. From “Ross for Boss” to Ross the Boss. Seems too obvious?
  18. Well damn. He has a high ceiling if he keeps working to get better. Hate to see him go.
  19. If Hodge wants the job AND Mosley wants him in the job then I’m all for it. Mosley has been a dude at hiring coaches. Also, Hodge has had the boy genius moniker attached to him since before he came to UNT. He’s only grown that reputation more here. I’m surprised we kept him as long as we did.
  20. The big lights and pressure finally got to them. Thought they played tight from about 10 minutes left until 2 minutes to go. Finally got their composure, but by that point they had let sdsu back into the game and gave away momentum. Very uncharacteristic of how they’ve played all year. If they return most or all of this squad they are going to be a force next year.
  21. MLB allows for gigantic differences in budgets and it has worked for over 100 years. The problem is the TV networks have effectively locked out all but the top audience draws from the playoff. The expanded playoff is better, but it still doesn’t go far enough. Wardly’s system (above) is best if competition is the goal. The problem is that competition is NOT the goal. Making the absolute most money as possible in that championship game is the goal. Get the best matchup of tv draws possible to drive up ad revenue means TV wants only a few teams possibly in the mix. This NCAA final four is going to be a disaster for TV…and it’s only going to further embolden them to limit who can crash the party.
  22. The problem I see is that some of you folks got personally invested in Mac being tied to this university…being invested in it like you are. Do you not remember him leaving Arkansas St at the drop of a hat after ONE season?! This is a guy who is looking to climb the ladder. He took the UNT job because it was a better job in a better conference and was closer to home. Now he leaves UNT to go coach in the Big 12, a conference that got 7 of 10 teams in the tournament, compared to our 1. He has ties to the school and has spent plenty of time in West Texas. If you want to win then you better get used to wanting guys like Mac coaching at UNT. I want hungry coaches looking to win and move up. Maybe someday UNT will become a power. The way to get there is winning with guys like Mac and Hodge. …. And yes, I’m pissed that the news was leaked early and Tech stole a bit of our thunder. THAT is acceptable to be mad about, impo. But it’s the way this business works. Lots of douchebagging when media coverage is involved
