  1. They didn’t shut themselves down. The University of Alabama board did (hence my tongue in cheek post). They didn’t have a say - big Alabama tried to kill them.
  2. Cue the Alabama board of regents killing UAB athletics in 3…2…1…
  3. Preface: I am not opposed to NIL as originally intended (signatures, video game royalties, etc) but absolutely hate the collectives-based cheating. Your analogy doesn’t quite work, however, as Dell (or pretty much any other student making money) isn’t being subsidized by the university up front. And I don’t mean the scholarships for athletes, I mean the brand, equipment, facilities, transportation, meals, training, medical, and everything else that the university- and by extension, donors and taxpayers- provides to them in order for their name, image, and likeness to matter. The university profits from this, of course, but football players are not just comparable to everyday students, even those who have scholarships or fellowships. Again, not opposed to NIL in theory but the comparison wasn’t quite equal.
  4. Our kicker perhaps? Saw that Jason Bean was heading to Indianapolis and made me wonder if we will see anyone in an NFL camp this year.
  5. A counter to the “it’s happening to everyone” argument clearly some are better at this game than others
  6. My brother was the executive chef for Heim for a while not so long ago.
  7. several offers dropped as soon as he hit the portal grad transfer with two more years
  8. Due to all the defections, one of our top returning WRs.
  9. There used to be a price list on the AD site but I wasn’t able to find it.
  10. Total speculation but many of those schools are in places with less competition for sports dollars so might be getting good community support for NIL. Plus a high percentage of MWC teams make the tournament so plenty of opportunities for the big stage.
  11. Everything in the AD is available for naming rights.
  12. Very true. But still one of the top 30 programs in the country historically.
  13. That is one way to look at it. Another would be that given a full offseason together and the addition of a couple of key pieces, this year’s team could have built the foundation for something better. I wasn’t convinced this team was special or even a top conference team but I have a hard time imagining losing the entire top six on the roster is ever really a positive unless you are just awful. We were not great but far from awful.
  14. I don’t like pulling a scholarship this late in the game for any reason other than character issues/criminal activity (if that is what happened). Yes we lost an entire top six but we also lost guys who literally never saw the court. I am sure there was room for a developing shooter. Give him Stone’s spot.
  15. Well that’s actually much worse then.
  16. You don’t think Memphis basketball has a much better brand that the rest of the conference?
