SMU Big East Statement from Gerald Turner

"While conference membership can change, SMU's reasons for joining the BIG EAST remain the same -- to maximize exposure for the University and its athletic program and to compete against some of the nation's best universities. SMU is a nationally prominent, tradition-rich university located in the vibrant city of Dallas. We are committed to excellence both in the classroom and on the fields of play. We will compete for championships. We look forward to joining a strong league on July 1 and playing our inaugural BIG EAST season in all sports beginning next fall." - SMU President R. Gerald Turner

One thing to keep in mind with all of this craziness - The leftover football schools in the Big East will not be leaving that conference in 2013. They have a potential windfall BCS bid at stake - unless of course the NCAA decides to take it away. So there is a one-shot lottery ticket left in that league even though most don't consider them deserving of it. What is interesting to me is if the Big East basketball schools offer Cincy and UConn an all sports bid and they find a football only home to bide their time until the ACC/B10 come calling. That would make it tough for the leftover Big East football schools to survive as a conference in my opinion.
