Recruit sighting

A North Texas fan with a sharp eye picked out a recruit in the stands during the Mean Green's win over Oklahoma Panhandle State tonight. We will protect the fan's identity, but the recruit was none other than power forward Ben Knox of Arlington Grace Prep.

Knox (6-9, 215) was in Denton on a visit. He already holds an offer from the Mean Green. Tulsa, American, Idaho State, Charleston Southern, and UNC-Greensboro are also showing interest in Knox, according to Rivals.com. Colorado could also become involved.

UNT has several post players who are coming to the end of their time with the Mean Green, including Keith Wooden and Quincy Williams. Knox appears to be one of the players UNT is looking at to fill the void that will be left when those players graduate.

Texashoops.com rates Knox No. 62 in its list of the top players in the Class of 2008.

From what I remember of the Texashoops top 100 list...62 seems a bit low for us to be targeting...the guard Tre Kelly(?) was high forties, low fifties and ended up at Texas St. We should be looking in the 20s and 30s IMO.

You may be right but there may be only three uncommitted power forwards wha rate better than Knox, and we're not on their lists. His skills are still developing and he could be as good as any.

We are pretty well set at guard for now. The big men for next year are Howerton (SR), Stewart (SR), Hogans (SO), and Odufuwa (SO). We need heighth.

I believe that we are #1 on his list and he would seem to be a good addition.

Turned out the visit must have gone well given his commitment. #62 will have to do. It should be interesting and good sized line up next year as we will have two 6'10" (Howerton and Knox) centers plus big George Odufuwa (6'8", 240lb), Harold Stewart (6'8"), and Kendrick Hogans (6'7"). I am excited to see who else will be added to the roster this coming year.
