Great American Shootout

Recommended Posts

North Texas prospects according to Rivals are:

Brandon Shaw..6-2 point guard from Colleyville Heritage....GPA 3.9.....AAU team...Texas Blue Chips Silver....uniform #10

Darian Thibbodeaux...6-3 wing from Dallas Kimball..NT has offered scholarship......AAU team....Dallas Showtyme Elite...uniform #3

Ray Holliday......6-6 wing from College Station A&M Consolidated.......GPA 3.87.....AAU team....Houston Heat 17.....#30

Courtney Jackson....6-7 post from Paris..NT has offered scholarship......AAU team...Dallas Mustangs.....#55 (I was very pleased to see this guy pop up on NT's list. He made a big impression on me at the AAU Summer Tip-off tournament in Carrollton. He is very quick and plays hard. He is an outstanding offensive rebounder.)

Quincy Acy is not listed on Rivals, but while googling for someone else, I wound up on Acy's MyPage. There he listed NT as one of the many schools recruiting him. Acy is a 6'8 Post from Mesquite Horn. He supposedly plays for one of the six Texas Blue Chips teams, but a search of my program revealed no info. Rivals gives him 4 stars, ranks him #73 in the nation and puts him in the class of 09. Texas Hoops rates Acy as Texas' #10 player in the class of 08.

The Dallas Showtyme Elite are the the defending champs of the Great American Shootout. The Coach is Erven Davis III (Chris' brother). Erven was video coach for NT for about 8 or 9 years and is a frequent visitor at NT practices and games. Every season North Texas goes after players on this AAU team. Here is the roster:

00...Andre Jackson........6-9....Pinkston (Wide Body)

0...Deontre Richmond....5-7....Dallas Sunset

1....Antwain Thomas......6-2....Terrell (pg was leading scorer in game I saw)

3....Darian Thibbodeaux.6-3....Kimball NT has offered. Southern Cal, A$M, Wichita St and Oral Roberts are interested)

4...Damarious Jones......6-4....Pinkston

5...Reger Dowell............6-1...North Dallas

10..PJ Colley..................6-6...N Crowley

11...Reggie Britton..........6-3...Plano

15...TJ Franklin...............6-1...N Crowley

21...Mike Webb...............6-8...Kimball

24...Will Gordon..............6-4...Mansfield Summit

34...Tre Prater................6-8...Sunset

There were some problems with the Summer Tip-Off roster program. Some guy about 6-4 was wearing #6 and was not listed in the program. No one was wearing #10. TJ Franklin is listed as #15, but he is supposed to be 6-1. Whoever was wearing #15 was at least 6-5. Any corrections would be appreciated.

Players with green blood:

Bobo Morgan (son of Ronnie)...6-10 Post....SOC...AAU..Urban DFW Elite....#44

Chase Spruill (son of Larry)....6-6.....Princeton.......AAU....Dallas Heroes 17....#24

Nolan Dennis (Brother of Collin)..6-6...Richland......AAU....Dallas Mustangs.....#1 (A pg at Richland last season, he played on the wing for the Mustangs at Summer Tip-Off.)

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Southlake has basketball too:

Neil Duvall.....6-7 Post...SLC.....AAU..Dallas Mustangs Blue...#15

Duvall runs the court well and likes to slip outside and shoot 3's. He might be able to move to the wing. He is ranked only #97 by Texas Hoops, but Scout.Com likes him better. Their correspondent at the Kingswood Shootout said Duvall had the best stroke at the tournament.

Denton High prospect:

Fred Moore...6-6 post...Denton.....AAU....Dallas Mustangs Blue...#22

Hunter is very strong, smooth and athletic. At the Summer Tip-Off I saw him take a defensive rebound and then lead the fast break using a full speed behind the back dribble to fake out a defender at mid-court. He was the #30 Texas Hoops prospect as a Soph. He had to sit out his junior season when the school board ruled he transferred from Ryan to Denton High for athletic purposes.

He does have some minuses. Below are quotes from AAU coach Grady Dale found in a 2006 DRC story.

I think Fred has changed where he was considered “the man” on his high school team, but with us we say, ‘You might be the man there, but here you still have to work hard. If you don’t, you go to the bench,’” Dale said. “He was the biggest guy on his high school team, but he’s not out here.”

Dale added that Hunter has the potential to play at one of the best college programs in the country if he wants to saying, “We put him in the position to be seen, get the coaches out there and then he has to take care of business.”

Thanks.

So it looks like Q Acy is class of 08 and is committed to prep school in 09.

The player I thought was Southlake's Neil Duvall is actually named Jerry or Terry Jones. The real Neil Dunall plays for the D-Mustangs, not the D-Mustangs Blue. He looks like a conventional post player.

Nolan Dennis was not present for the D-Mustangs opening game.

Coach Foy was present at the D-Mustangs-Texas Ambassadors game.

6-8 Andrew Davis of Garland Christian Academy has been added to Erven Davis' Dallas Showtyme Elite roster.

There were a number of top kids missing. I knew that Bobo Morgan was committed to a national tournament or two this summer. Nolan Dennis played with the Dallas Mustangs 15U at the tournament in Carrollton in May. I believe they play in the NCAA division.

The best performance of the day (or at least what I witnessed) came from Damarious "Shug" Jones of Dallas Pinkston. (Dallas Showtyme Elite) Shug is the best player in Dallas. Unfortunately, I believe grades saddled him late in the season last year. I'd love for JJ to get this kid in the 08 class!

HP solidified my opinion that they may be the team to beat in 4A. (Their top kids play for the Dallas Heroes)

On a facilities note:

We need a center court scoreboard at the Super Pit real bad! With SMU's huge scoreboard fresh on my mind (Global Games) the pit seems to be lacking big time. RV, give me a call! I'll make the first donation!

The quality of the game action photo's of each individual player (on the wall was phenominal) Best looking pictures I've ever seen!

I guess we will wait until school starts to update the banners hanging in the Pit. The 2007 NCAA tournament appearance was not up.
