  1. Of course it is a disadvantage for a player from a small town like Eastland, Tx (Pop. 3769) who has not played against top competition. But that is not to say it can't be done. Two recent examples immediately come to mind. Texas A&M's Joseph Jones of Normangee, Tx (Pop. 719) as a true Freshman started in all 31 games, ranked second on the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game and dunks (18) and led the Aggies in rebounding (7.3), field goal percentage (.577), blocked shots (39), and three-point plays (16). He posted seven double-doubles, the most by a Big 12 freshman, and scored 10 or more points 23 times, also setting the A&M freshman record by completing 103 free throws. His performance earned him honorable mention All-Big 12 honors and a place on the Big-12 All-Freshman team, with CollegeInsider.Com also naming him to their Freshman All-America team. Oklahoma State's James Anderson of Junction City, Arkansas (Pop. 721) made an immediate impact, scoring 29 points in his first collegiate game, a 104–48 win over Prairie View.[2] Anderson would continue his strong play, averaging 13.3 points per game. He was named honorable mention All-Big 12 selection and a member of the Big 12 All-Rookie team.
  2. I saw Franklin when he played for the Duncanville AAU team. He played on the wing facing the basket in the only game I saw.
  3. You people are freakin' delusional. You all are obviously "Sheening" to epic proportions. We are done. D - O - N - E!!!!
  4. Is SGP's Washburn the same one who went to Duncanville?
  5. Hopefully our players realize the depth of talent in NCAA basketball today. Even in Div II. Panhandle State in 2008
  6. North Texas vs current CUSA teams under coach Jones: SMU.........0-2 (SMU was in the WAC at the time) Houston...0-3 (Houston was in the WAC for one of the wins) Tulsa........2-0 Rice..........2-0 Memphis..0-1 Total 4-6 vs current CUSA teams Total 4-3 vs CUSA In fairness, it must be pointed out that the two losses to SMU and one of the losses to Houston came during Coach Jones first two seasons, when it was difficult to recruit coming after so many seasons with 20+ losses. Note that SMU had room to schedule North Texas when SMU had a real coach and North Texas averaged four wins a year.
  7. Chico means boy in Spanish. I hope we call him Mike.
  8. Not sure if it makes any difference or not, but we are not talking about tie-breakers for regular season Sun Belt champions. There is no such title. The winner of the Conference Tournament is the Sun Belt Champion.
  9. The last time we played UT, Head Coach Rick Barnes said Johnny Jones has done a great job with his team. Just like he has every year since he has been there. He said it on a Fox Southwest interview.
  10. North Texas plays at least an average schedule for it's level. The schedule is, of course, out of balance in that most of the good teams are road games instead of at home. To remedy this, we need to draw more fans. Wichita State drew 10,228 for it's game with Newman. That is how they are able to schedule TCU and Tx Tech at home. The athletic department can only do so much. We, the fans, get the home schedule that we deserve.
  11. It could be the end of the Shootout in Denton. If so, it will have an impact on recruiting. I remember reading about Dominique Johnson being very impressed with the North Texas campus and BB facilities after playing in the shootout.
  12. After a wait of one year and three games, I finally saw my player in action. RS Freshman Aaron Fortenberry played offensive Right Tackle in at least parts of three offensive series, for a total of about eight plays. He was not guilty of any penalties and no one blew past him.
  13. Aaron Fortenberry was on the participation list for the Alabama game. The 6-4, 288-pound Era High (Class A) grad plays on the OL and is never mentioned on the broadcasts or in the stats.
  14. Redshirt Freshman OL Aaron Fortenberry was listed on the player participation report for the first time in his career vs Ohio. He was in uniform, but did not play, in the Ball State game. That was probably Aaron's first road trip.

  16. Denver: Ark Pine-Bluff, Seattle, Lamar, Montana, Wyoming and Northern Iowa. UALR: St Gregory's, Lyon College, Cal Poly, Oral Roberts and Missouri State. La-Monroe: Harding, University of the Southwest, Alcorn St, Grambling and La Tech. Louisiana: Louisiana College, Mobile College, Centenary, Southern Miss and Tulane. UNO: Southern New-Orleans (Satellite of Southern of Baton Rouge), Mobile College, Houston Baptist and Texas St. Ark St: No schedule yet
  17. Div II basketball is the same as Div 1-AA (FCS) in effect, and there is no BB division comparable to FB DIV II. Scholarship limits (I hope these are current): FB 1-A (FBS).........85 BB D-1.................13 FB 1-AA (FCS).......63 (74% 1-A) BB D-2..................10 (77% of D-1) FB D-2..................36 (42% of 1-A) BB has no equivalent D-3 Both.................0 (although the school will work to try to get players a pell grant or some kind of scholarship)
  18. Canisius does not have a football team any more but they are still D-1 in BB. Canisius is Norm Hitzges' Alma Mater. Although they have had a rough time the last few years they have a good BB history. Canisius is 6-4 in the NCAA Tournament with tournament wins over North Carolina State, Villanova and West Virginia. Canisius is a member of the Metro Atlantic (MAAC) conference (Sienna, Niagra, Marist). Last season the MAAC finished 13th in conference RPI. The Sun Belt was 17th. The MAAC was rated better than the Colonial (George Mason"Final Four", Virginia Commonwealth, Hofstra) and the West Coast (Gonzaga, Santa Clara, St. Mary's).
  19. Coach Cross did a fine job with Coach McCarter's players. It will be interesting to see how he does with his own recruits. I remember seeing a newspaper story once about McCarter's teams finishing better than their pre-season predictions for about 9 straight years or some other ridiculous number. I thought he did a good job there and deserved a chance to coach his best team.

  21. Here is the Bush National Debt record from from Jan 20. 2001 to Jan 20, 2009. when Bush took office the debt was $5.7 Trillion. It was $10.6 trillion when he left. These figures are according to an official Treasury Department web site.www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/NPGateway Here are some Treasury yearly debt figures from 1950-1999. Please note the debt went from $257 Billion in 1950 to $908 Billion on Sep 30, 1980. Then, under Ronald Reagan, the debt skyrocketed to near $3 Trillion. There was moderate growth under Bush the elder and Clinton before the disaster under Bush II. www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo4.htm The official Treasury Department figures from the official Treasury Department web site make it clear that two presidents, Reagan and Bush II, are responsible for over half of our National Debt.
  22. Judges 4: 14-16 14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him. 15 And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet. 16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left. Mount Tabor guards the valley of Megiddo (better known as as Armageddon), where Barak routed the Canaanites.
