North Texas Offers Quarterback Chase Griffin.

The UNT coaching staff visited Hutto this past week and extended an offer to 19-5A District MVP QB Chase Griffin. Last season, as a junior, he threw an eye-popping 40 touchdowns with just 4 interceptions totaling 4100 in positive yardage and an impressive completion percentage of 66%.

Griffin is known as a gun-slinger with a big arm and great field vision, putting up video game numbers and leading his team both on and off the field.  The only plausible reason P5 schools have so far hesitated to offer a full scholarship appears to be his sub 6-2 height.  It’s certainly a story many North Texas fans have heard before.

In the case of quarterback Mason Fine, the P5’s loss turned out to be a program-changing gain for the Mean Green. Fine has turned the program around in just a couple of years with record setting stats and back to back bowl appearances.

But don’t count your chickens too quickly UNT fans.  North Texas fought off Big 12 pursuit of Fine late in the recruiting cycle and will likely have to do the same for the talented Griffin who is already receiving interest from several Big 12 schools.

Chase Griffin Q and A

Q: Have you visited North Texas yet?

A: Not yet but getting up there as quick as possible.

Q: Thoughts on the UNT staff and their success at the quarterback position?

A: Absolutely, seeing Mason coming back for his junior year and being the returning passing leader in FBS, and of course Coach Harrell being such a quarterback legend in the state of Texas with his record passing numbers.  Seeing how well Mason is doing is a testament to North Texas’ staff.  It shows that they can develop their QB’s and how proficient they have been at selecting them.

Q: Other Schools contacting you?

A: Yes, there are several teams that want to see me throw next week. Several Big 12 schools. Other than that, it’s Ivy league and other Conference USA schools

Q: What’s biggest factor in your college decision?

A: The commitment process is going to come down to not only the position coach and head coach but the relationship we develop with the staff.  Also, being at a place where I can make the biggest difference and positive impact on the program.

Q: North Texas Coaches recruiting you?

A: Coach Mainord and Coach Harrell.

Q: Favorite restaurant?

A: Chipotle.

Big Praise from Bruce Feldman!
