Never in my life have I ever complained that a college game lasted too long. Now there were some times I felt like leaving, but the game length was always just right. I am glad the NCAA is getting rid of the "clock starts when the ball is placed down" rule. Terrible rule and I'm glad it's gone. I hate the play reviews. They're certainly not "instant" and really can kill momentum. I think if the officials are honest (and if they're not, they shouldn't be officials) that's all you need. I wasn't always a fan of the Green Brigade becuase I didn't think they really were the "showcase of spirit and pride." That's changed and I think the GB is a vital part of the gameday experience and the GB members, for the most part, are loyal Mean Green fans. Having said that, I'd like to make a couple of suggestions. First, I too would like to hear "Texas Our Texas" played sometime around the time the band plays the National Anthem. We are a State school and we should recognize our affillation to the State. Secondly, I'd rather see "North Texas" or Mean Green" on the drum heads rather than "Yamaha." Unless and/or until Yamaha contributes instruments to the band, I think we should promote the University instead of giving high visibility to a vendor. I'd also like to see Green sleeves on trombone slides and some kind of green cover on sousaphone bells with "NT" or "Mean Green" proudly displayed. Too bad the visiting bench isn't where it used to be, right in front of the Pit Crew (where God intended it). That way, the Pit Crew could heckel the visitors all through the game and during timeouts.

I had an idea and I shared it with RV last night at the NT-Denver game. It's my understanding that DD and Mattress Mac have asked for the practice field that was to be named for each of them, one at a time, now to be named for Andrew Smith. I really like this idea. But I was trying to think of something other than a sign or a paragraph in the gameday program to tell people who Andrew was. My idea is to stripe the field as usual, but instead of the usual "10", "20", "30", and so on, to start the numbers with "12". No ten yard numbers, the number twelve. So that forever, when anyone asks why there is no ten yard line, someone can tell them about Andrew Smith and the contribution he made to NT football during his all too brief time here. RV said he liked the idea. What do you, the Mean Green Nation think ? If I had any talent as to graphics I would post the image that I have in my head. Perhaps someone here can help me out. During the Matt Simon era, the team along with Coach Simon got involved with an organization called "Last Chance Forever" or something like that. It was a group in the Aubrey area that rehabiliated eagles. Simon and some members of the team had their pictures made with the eagle at the "farm" and the picture was in the D R-C. I bet there is some kind of bird handler in the area that would love to provide a eagle flyover on game day. But be prepared for the "dangers" involved.
