  1. #1) West Texas State in 1976. The school was independent with just a handful of NCAA bids available; that never went to an independent) The victory, in front of 9,000+ in the Super Pit, solidified NTSU as the #1 Team in Texas and the Best Team ever; unbelievable talent with roster full of Hall of Famers and/or guys that should have been. At one point, 17th in the nation ranking. Greatest collection of coaches. No ESPN, Hudl or star system. One of the highest scoring teams in the nation with legit 1st Team All-State Roster and Juco All-Americans. Congratulations to the McCasland era. Carry on.
  2. And, he’s really not wanted by the fan base.
  3. FYI, Houston’s best player and MVP candidate, Marcus Sasser (Dallas Tx - Red Oak HS) is the grandson of NTSU’s Jeryl Sasser. Jeryl played in the early 70’s for NTSU. Son’s played at Kimball and SMU & Texas Tech and in the NBA https://tvccsports.com/hall_of_fame/Jeryl_Sasser
  4. I remember when Karen Aston left after 1 year and the tone on this board was so different. She went out of her way talking about how this was where she wanted to be. Damn shame this kid gets ripped and character questioned for changing his mind. And adults are the ones throwing big money around using these kids for our entertainment. Best of luck Gumms. Live YOUR life son. No body will give a damn about you when your eligibility is up.
  5. Brandon Jones has the best looking eyes from the linebacking spot I’ve seen since Mike Singletary. A pass rushing specialist. Just need more size.
  6. You stole my thunder. 100% agree! Now I don’t know enough about the coaches you mentioned. This “best defense” in the country is very misleading when you consider the stall ball we’ve seen the past couple of years. (However, this has not been the case in the NIT) I want a SERIOUS national search and not just the next person in line. This is what happened to SMU after Larry Brown left. I’ve never had a job in life where I was promoted automatically when my bosses moved on. And yes, I was more than qualified. Go get the best person for the job within your budget. (To build on what has been established; instead of just keeping the ship sailing)
  7. I disagree with her recruiting at a high level. This was always my biggest disappointment. For someone very connected to SW Dallas County, she never made any headway at Duncanville, DeSoto or Cedar Hill with the impact girls there and other places.
  8. It’s hard for most head coach’s of North Texas football to move up the ranks when they leave.
  9. Did Denton pass that weed bill?
  10. I saw this Dallas News article on the Dallas News app and thought you’d be interested. 10 LOCALS TO WATCH IN NCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTFrom D-FW to madness https://edition.pagesuite.com/popovers/dynamic_article_popover.aspx?artguid=ae8ef87f-adb7-42fb-84bc-801d83b9fda8&appcode=DMNUAT&eguid=21a5859d-5e78-4f6c-9b88-d5586f556af0&pnum=89# For more great content like this subscribe to the Dallas News app here: https://join.dallasnews.com/subscription-landing
  11. Dr. Ron Griffen was a 6-7 forward with a nice shot for a big man. Reserve role for Coach Jimmy Gales back in the early 90’s. Is currently Executive Director of Athletics @ Garland ISD. Son, Ryan Griffen, was a 4 star recruit out of Richardson HS last year and formed one of the best backcourts in the nation; with 5 star Cason Wallace. Ryan was a National recruit and averages about 6 pts per game as a true freshman at Alabama. Cason is the younger brother of Keaton Wallace, All CUSA @ UTSA. Cason is one of the top freshmen in college today; starting for the Kentucky Wildcats. Just a little known fact in NT history
  12. Tina Slinker's winning percentage after 8 years here was 35%. She stayed on for another 11 years. Jalie's percentage is at 47% after 8 seasons. Slinker's percentage for her entire 19 years was at 46%. Of course Slinker gets inducted into the UNT Hall of Fame. I agree that we need to make a change and I understand that leadership has changed; where 35% wouldn't be acceptable today. We desperately need some Hall of Fame standards in place for coaches and players. Is it asking too much for a coach to win 51% of their games?
  13. Is it possible to have the success of a Grant McGasland but with a more entertaining brand of basketball; that packs the arena? Yes, I'd like to have some cake and eat it to.
  14. The man can recruit and has an exciting branch of basketball. Ain't gonna happen but I'd sign on to a return. The bigger question is would he have enough fire left in his career @ age 61.
  15. Nope, not interested in watching stall ball throughout a game. HS playoffs/State Championship berths wins out every time for me. Hope you enjoyed the game.
  16. #1 Dallas Lake Highlands vs Trophy Club Byron Nelson @ Wilkerson-Greines (Ft Worth) 1:00 PM - Areas best: Finley Bizjack (Byron Nelson) vs. Tre Johnson (Lake Highlands) also UNT’s 2024 commitment Jaylen Williams #1 Dallas Kimball vs Lancaster (Garland’s Special Events Center) @ 12:00 PM #1 Oak Cliff Faith Family vs #2 Dallas Carter @ 3:00 PM (Texas A&M Commerce) Will try to make it to Garland & Commerce All games should be streamed on NFHS Girls State Championships today (San Antonio) DeSoto vs #1 San Antonio Clark @ 8:30 PM (DeSoto is seeking a 3-peat with 4 starting freshmen) Game televised on Bally Sports. Fairfield vs Holliday - 10:00 AM - Fairfield features UNT signee Shadasia Brackens Frisco Liberty vs Lubbock Cooper @ 3:00 PM Waco La Vega vs Sunnyvale @ 7:00 PM
  17. Was at their game last night against a short handed Arlington Martin. Martin’s entire bench was ineligible due to a fight against Lewisville the game before. (11 guys) Slowed the game down with a UNT four corner offense. Appeared to be the better team until one of their better kids fouled out. (Continued to play with 4 fouls in the 2nd quarter) OK, I’ll keep it real. Don’t think this kid is a big time recruit. He is, however, another kid that fits the McCasland system perfectly. Scored 2 points last night. Shared bringing the ball up court against the Martin pressure. If you’re not familiar with Lake Highlands, they have a 5 star wing (Trey Johnson) who is the number 1 Junior in Texas and projected to be the #1 recruit in the Country in the 2024 class. He didn’t disappoint. A future first round NBA prospect. Washington is a smallish true point guard. Good handles and quickness but I don’t see him elevating the program. Don’t remember seeing any outside shots. They also have a slender 6-10 center that is somewhat raw but can really jump. Good to see both UNT recruits continue to advance to the 3rd round of the HS playoffs Friday.
  18. Have had an opportunity to watch 2 full games on NFHS during the playoffs. Strange as it seems, I think the best offense for him is the one in place under McClasland. Beautiful looking outside shot but inconsistent with it; especially when he goes too fast. Should certainly make the rotation early. A very good 1st signee with at least 3-5 more.
  19. I did acknowledge that he starts and plays significant minutes
  20. Can’t believe the hype on a kid that wouldn’t be getting any PT for most programs in the country. His only job is to not hurt the team. Never in my life have I seen a worse box out; when the entire arena knew an intentional missed Free throw was the only hope the opposing team had. In his defense, he does start and play significant minutes.
  21. It’s not exciting basketball; despite the winning seasons. Is there a comparable size program, with 40k students, with a similar record, that averages the same or less fans? With the winning percentage over the last 5 years you’d think there would be much greater interest from top recruits to sign on.
