  1. From the "worst" losses to the least damaging... 1. Florida International - There was absolutely no excuse for this one. Playing in front of thousands....thousand of non-rabid fans of a team that hasn't won since Saddam was still in a spider hole. A season of decent progress ends with complete surrender to an inferior 0-23 team. Also pop FIU's winless cherry. Embarrassing. 2. Louisiana - Less than 20 minutes of possession for the Mildly Displeased Cajuns and we give up over 400 yards. And lose by ten with over 500 yards of offense and over 40 minutes of control. Pop UL's winless cherry in the process (#2). Pathetic. 3. Troy - Seven turnovers. 35 minutes of possession. 205 yards, and you lose by 38 points to a Sun Belt team. Sure Troy beat up many in conference, but how do you explain that to the CUSA? Worthless. 4. Middle Tennessee - What's worse...giving up 5 turnovers, or knowing that even if you take away the points off those turnovers (16) we still lose by 4? Blown out by 20 at home on homecoming against a mediocre MTSU bodes poorly for the rest of the season. Disturbing. The first four are the truly horrid ones...next are the mildly distressing: 5. Florida Atlantic - Once again, leading respectfully in yards and time of possession is not enough. The Defense is unable to hold much, continuing my case to bring in Immodium or Metamucil as our defensive drive sponsors. In truth not a bad loss. Too bad it sounds like a joke when you tell a fellow football fan that you held FAU to 30 points. Thanks, Sun Belt! 6/7.. Oklahoma and Arkansas - Sure, difficult opponents, but ones well deserving of respect. Unfortunately, losing to two big schools 145-17 is worse than horrible. I would bet good money that any team in the Southland would not give up that many points. Oklahoma would have had pity, but was apparently too busy laughing at our defensive schemes and the NCAA08-worthy score. Can you fire a DC in the Playstation game? Oklahoma gets it's first victory of the year, so it still counts (#3). 8. Southern Methodist - It's almost like a British mystery series - you could spend hours trying to figure out who choked first. Dodge shows that a team needs to play four quarters in college football. Too bad our guys only played three. And yes, a cherry popper (#4) to the worst team in the worst division in the worst 1-A conference in America. Less than impressive. The last two are ok. Really. 9. Arkansas State - If you're gonna lose, that's how you do it. Tough loss on the road, but the team showed grit and character. 10. Navy. Just getting this game is big. Going toe-to-toe with an excellent team and lighting them up speaks well to those outside the Mean Green Nation. Nice showing and close loss to a team that most of the Metroplex has actually heard of.
  2. Mendoza would be in over his head in the shallow end of the kiddie pool. Having said that, D.
  3. I imagine they'll be a few Greenies down at Alamo Plaza at 8 in the morning....but the way SA is, i'll be taking two Texas fans, an Okie, Aggie and a TxSt fan. San Antonio's neutral territory that way (at least for grad students)
  4. So Dodge seems to confirm that DD left the cupboard empty. Hopefully this is confirmation that the problems on the D-side were talent-based and not coach-based, as Dodge seems keen on keeping Mendoza. FIU will give some indication.
  5. Wow...that's the same as what Sherman is getting at Texas A&M. Good for Baylor to be putting up what's necessary to be big time in the Big XII, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a waste of money (because of Baylor's hopless attempt to be a private school in the Big XII, not because of Briles)
  6. Still pretty classy of him to recognize that the tides are against him and leave gracefully. I think the 2-year extension was more of a tip-of-the-hat than anything else. Nutt will land somewhere, and seemed smart knowing when to go.
  7. I don't believe I have ever seen Karma come running back to slap a football team quite as hard as it just did.
  8. Sounds like Bennett may very well consider it... http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...ap.1a726e5.html One hopes Dodge is one of those ringing his phone...
  9. We were an excellent offensive team well before Navy. It's been a great ride on that side of a ball, and once the D gets its act togeter (probably without Mendoza) we'll really be terrifying in the future. Good job to everyone on that side of the ball. It's refreshing. It's true that our teams productivity has not shown up on the scoreboard this year, but this is a brand new offense and a young team. It will be awhile until the scoring and turnover situation settles down. It will take maturity to learn how to play all 4 and hold onto a lead (such maturity probably would have won us three games this year all by itself). This is year one. Don't expect the New England Patriots yet.
  10. I don't think the situation is hopeless...with a now-favorable schedule and awesome offense which has really waked up in the last few games...a decent winning streak is still possible to close out the year. And Serene Green is really funny - a perfect description for our defense this year.
  11. If they want to take legal action, they better be VERY careful...after all, a legal proceeding is public record, which means we'd get to find out every little thing Green and Chatman ever did to deserve what they got - something it seems that Coach Dodge is too much the gentleman to do. I hope they have a good honest lawyer to tell them they will only hurt themselves....but if they get one of these advocacy lawyers that see racism everywhere and have never won a case on those grounds...they will be lucky to manage a Burger King in their future.
  12. Many blacks are racist, too. To think that a coach is disciplining you because he's a racist bigot automatically makes one guilty of the same offense. This is an unfortunate action by Green and Chapman, as i'm quite certain they knew that such a complaint had to go through the AD first. Instead they go straight to the NAACP, which has no authority to investigate this matter, (whereas the Athletic Department and NCAA do), file a complaint about something which is not legally actionable (they must go through the AD and NCAA first), and in the process look like they're just being vindictive. Those facts are sufficient to ascertain that they just want attention and are leftovers from DD's poisonous regime. Some Americans play the race card all the time. The Duke "rape" case, Cynthia McKinney, Michael Jackson, and Michael Vick all come to mind off the top of my head. I can't think of an instace where a non-black has used the race card. I represent a minority with less rights and respect than blacks or any other "group" in this country (even illegal immigrants can get married in this country, and one would be frowned upon if not beat up for protesting a black man's funeral with signs saying "god hates blacks") so I don't need or want a lecture on how the man is keeping people down. Green and Chapman went around established procedure to get attention. Good for them. Maybe they'll enjoy ending their football careers and repaying UNT for their scholarships for this semester. I know if I, as a normal student, did such a thing I'd be out on my rear....but then again, I have to follow the rules....i'm not....
  13. Having just graduated, I believe that I can shed some light on this. Most students know that Dodge is our coach, so that's a good thing. But wether we like it or not, UNT is the one of the finest liberal arts and fine arts school in the state. That is not conducive to a football program, so we have to work harder to get people out to the game. As far as average student No. 17 is concerned, we play three games this year. Oklahoma, SMU and Arkansas. To sound like a broken record, the problem is student fan support is the SunBelt (which even football knowledgeable students often confuse with the Southland). That's just the way it's going to be. There might be change if we played teams such as Boise St, TCU, and the entirety of the CUSA West (which would be a step down from the Sun Belt, the way things are this year). Sorry, and no disrespect intended, but to a student playing teams like the ULs and MTSU sounds like a FCS schedule. In short, we should have taken the WAC's offer. Water, bridge. We need to bribe our way into the CUSA.
  14. ...but in the interim, whilst waiting for that ship to come in (as it inevitably will), it's truly awesome to see the SBC really turning into a much better conference and continuing to improve itself. ...and I wanted to take the WAC's offer. Idiot.
  15. I'm just ....shocked. As an occasional contributor and of lurker on the board for many a year, I'm horrified by the sort of attitude we're giving our VISITORS to this board. This smacks of the same elitism that we've always charged SMU with. Yes, assuming that we are better than SMU because they are a bunch of pretty Gucci boys whom eat off of gold plates is a form of elitism as well. Really, I expected better. Clearly, it will be the current generation of students at all the area schools (whom grew up together and chose to go to TCU, SMU or UNT on an equal basis) which will get past this nonsense (except for smack, which this topic has gone past). SMU is no longer the prissy school it used to be, and has some great people. TCU still has its oddities, but is a fine school as well. UNT has come from nowhere to international prominence in the short time since I started attending and graduated (the traditional NT 7 years). As for the past: GET OVER IT! For whatever reason, we are here now, worrying about past wrongs (that old chestnut SMU keeping UNT out of the SWC is about as valid as SMU's rightful suspicion of a certain local sports director whom gives money to UNT and was key to the DP investigation in the 80's.) Let's also be honest. For mostly outdated and ignorant reasons, SMU and TCU have a high reputation either academically or athletically which is not equaled by UNTs. The SMU posters are correct: SMU has prestige to lose in the short term by playing and especially by losing to UNT. Even if it is their own alumni, it is an important factor. We should all work to overcome that and establish a permanent arrangement, but sadly it appears that some old attitudes need to die out first.
  16. The "all out" blitz really doesn't work too well against a spread offense. if NT's line can hold for a five-step drop ( I think they can) the coverage opens up in the middle. Personally, I think Bennett is suicidal to use it against the spread, where manning-up and sending someone off-tackle would be far more effective. Bennett's probably not very long for the world. If NT's defense comes out with something different than it showed in the OU game (I'm certain that Dodge and Mendoza were hiding something, if not everything)...it could be quite ugly.
  17. I'd definately recommend parking at Mockingbird Station and taking the buses (which are cofortable and run pretty much constantly. Just better get there 30 mins before kickoff.
  18. Just a few... I count as 35 fans! SMU Football, where every day is 1981. SMU = Old and Busted You're wearing knockoff Polos! SMU = Where every drunken C student gets a library. Is the ponies learning? Go Grapevine! Sun Belt>CUSA. Dear Ponies; how about some recent history! UNT - 4 Conference Championships TCU - Ranked every year UTD - Chess champions SMU - ???? SMU Football: Can U Say Abysmal?
  19. Why not? It's only a few weeks now... 9/1 @ Oklahoma- L, possibly ugly; Dodge Grand Caravan 9/8 @ SMU - W, interesting game; Phil Bennett hired as Diet Coke Boy 9/22 Florida Atlantic - W, somewhat expected; Dodge Nitro 9/29 @ Arkansas - L, will be ugly; back to Grand Caravan 10/6 @ UL-Laf - W, good night; Dodge Nitro 10/13 Louisiana Monroe - W, ill-tempered hawks no match; Dodge Ram 1500 10/20 @ Troy - L, Troy's just too good, Dodge Nitro 10/27 Middle Tennessee Car Wash - W, muts de-pantsed by a Dodge Ram 1500. 11/10 Navy - L, Midshipmen will be a great bowl team this year; no shame, still Dodge Ram 1500. 11/15 @ Arkansas State - L, big win at home for the so-recently-known-as-Indians, back to Dodge Nitro 11/24 Western Kentucky - W, play basketball hilltoppers! 12/1 @ FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL - W, great finish to the year; Dodge Ram 1500. 7-5. Might be an interesting situation if Arky or Troy lose two games. Chance at the Murder City Bowl.
  20. They are a real classy bunch....hope our crankyness from 2006 didn't give them too bad an impression....
  21. That stealth recuiting was brilliant, too. Maybe we actually had 4,000 yard passing and 25 TD's last year....but they were stealth statistics. Pathetic.
  22. Is it possible to increase it further? Any more popular with the gay community and UNT'll have to make dorm rooms co-ed.
  23. Or a carrier pigeon. I couldn't hear Carrot Top from the stands at Fouts, and he's the most annoying thing in the world. Anyways, a bad day at Fouts is still usually better than a good day at Ford (having attended multiple games at both in the last year, I feel I could say that). Fouts on a bad day will usually have 10-12k, but Ford's often lucky to see even that (especially when one considers SMU's magical attendance formula (# of tickets sold or given away or thrown down the drains on Mockingbird times 2)).
  24. Louisville. Undoubtadley the best model from a small conference to the big time, similar situation to us in the past, and an old MVC member, to boot (in fact, they were around for our conference championships in 1958 & 1959, 1966 & 1967 and 1973, along with Tulsa, Cincy, Memphis, NMSU and Houston.) Now we just need the owners of Pizza Hut or Inn down in Addison to pitch in for the stadium.
  25. Gary Barnett is a waaaaaay outside chance. Prez Bataille said that one of her big reasons for coming to NT was how clean our programs (athletic and academic) were. Barnett would be a very questionable move.
