  1. Hey guys, this is the actual GB here... My tool of a roommate got a hold of my computer earlier and messed with a bunch of stuff. Facebook, my background, the post above...needless to say I've deleted the offending post. While I'm not an Ohio Douche, the guy I live with most definitely is, and shows it off to anyone and everyone that isn't affiliated with OSU (which makes road games we go to kind of hairy sometimes). He knows I still follow UNT sports (went there my freshman year) so I guess he thought this would be funny. Either way, hope you guys don't hold any harsh feelings for me because of that. There's douches in the OSU fanbase but I'd like to think that there's not that many. Here's to both teams kicking some tail in the Dance!
  2. Having attended NT and OSU, I feel like I've got a little perspective on this. The DFW area is such a different type of beast than a lot of the "college towns" y'all are talking about. Most of those towns have the type of fervent support for the local colleges and universities because it's literally all they've got besides the high schools. With the metroplex expanding up I-35E and Denton being literally absorbed into it, the city lacks that aspect. The commuters really don't help, either, but that's for later. Let me put it this way: Columbus, OH has 1.) Ohio State, 2.) the Blue Jackets, and 3.) the Columbus Crew. The Crew and CBJ have loyal fan bases and are respectable teams in their leagues, but neither come close to rivaling OSU's, which has been around for 130 years, with the hockey and soccer teams existing for a combined 25-30 years. Columbus is a decent sized city, but it's not part of a sprawling metro area like Denton. Any local college (see TCU) has to compete with the Cowboys, Mavs, Rangers, Stars, UT, A&M, OU, TT, and LSU sports to an extent due to the nature of the population. Since most people aren't familiar with NT having traditions of ANY kind (and I mean WINNING traditions, or anything really consistent...shades of green anyone?), then there's less opportunity for people to identify with even the largest of public universities in the area...which NT is. NT isn't a branch campus of a larger university but it gets treated that way because nobody has a reason to care besides those associated with it. My final point is that Denton and the campus area aren't built for the type of "college town" atmosphere that we all crave. The main business district for students - Fry St. - was razed. It's a shell of its former self, which is sad, and what's worse is that nobody's doing anything about it. There's next to nothing across the street from the dorms on Eagle Drive, except for the shopping center and Save-A-Lot. There's hardly anything to the east of campus, and to the west are neighborhoods and highway. To me, to have the type of feeling you want, there needs to be a reason for pedestrian traffic. Living in the DFW area, nobody really ever walks around, which in itself is vital to your "college towns". The new stadium will help significantly, but Denton HAS to develop the campus area with businesses for there to be any kind of progress.
  3. Like Smitty said, Montgomery and the defense as a unit because that's exactly what they played as - a unit. Cam ran all over the BSU defense and looked incredibly strong for a Sun Belt running back (understand this is the perception that most will have - I've seen Jamario Thomas play in person), dragging defenders on multiple occasions. I'm predicting a great year for Cam and the running backs. Hope Micah Mosley can earn some more playing time, that dude's a fighter.
  4. Cute. Thaddeus Gibson begs to differ. Though TBH the only team I'd be ok with sneaking up on us would be NT. UNT 27 Ohio U. 24
  5. LOL Colleyville Heritage, my alma mater ceases to amaze (though this doesn't shock me one bit).
  6. Big talk from Draylen Ross, let's hope he and the team can back it up with the appropriate wins.
  7. Having been to Jonesboro, I agree with DirtySavage. That one's not for the faint of heart.
  8. The band's an integral part of the pageantry at any school. Granted, OSU's use of the band is different than most because most people consider the band just as holy as the football team here...but they're all part of the show. The first time I saw what's in this video in person really opened my eyes to the absolute spectacle that is college football. Still gives me goosebumps every time the team comes out:
  9. OSU has been advertising their spring game since the day after the Fiesta Bowl. And for the second year in a row, they're bundling a men's lacrosse game, vs. Notre Dame with the spring football game. Non-revenue sport gets some face time, the lax players get to play in the stadium and fans get to enjoy two games for the price of one.
  10. Exactly, we're the state's flagship school, located in the state capital. Ohio U is a smaller backwoods private school.
  11. If we'd played Boeckman any more that we did, he'd have had ended the game with 2 interceptions, taken 6 sacks from Orakpo alone and the game would have been the blowout everyone expected.
  12. This should be a decent game, provided tOSU's offense can get things rolling. I think this should be a decent matchup; UT's a proven good team, and the Buckeyes have fought through and overcome a lot this season. Hopefully we can send our seniors out with a BCS win against the whorns.
  13. And a new stadium that's all but guaranteed now.
  14. Could go either way but within our betting circles here, I've got $20 on the Whorns.
  15. Ohio State has The Blackwell Hotel that's run by hospitality mgmt. students. VERY nice place, and right near the Shoe and business college.
