  1. Beat SMU. The rest is trivial. Bonus Pay for beating SMU by more points than the milage between the two schools.
  2. I disagree. I really hope he said that. Exactly that. That's a critical change in attitude which I would welcome. The kids can get over it. Beat SMU, Mr. Dickey, and all will be forgiven from last year, and you can take out a second mortgage on your house. The AD posts on the fourm, and makes it clear he values our CONSTRUCTIVE insight, and he's getting flak for it!? illuvius is right....you won't see that kind of class and concern ANYWHERE else (with a possible few exceptions) in I-A. I've also been at NT since 2000. I was in the stands that year, and would have been overjoyed at a winning record. Bowl games? Conference champs? That didn't exist as even a concept on campus a few years ago. I may also be critical of DD, but I don't wish to denigrate how far we have come with him.
  3. If they're gonna fight anyway - i'm all for the home team. HOOK 'EM TEXAS KLAN!
  4. This is as true as the sun coming up in the east. Dickey is not leaving. No pressure from the Alumni or Students could acheive that. So, it's time to vent. But it will probably take several months before everyone is through doing that, and rightfully so. After that, time to get back on board and do what we can to beat SMU, and look decent at Texas.
  5. A year ago i said that we should accept WAC's offer. I based it on the idea that the WAC has better recognition, teams, competition and financials. At that time, many thought it was a bad idea. Let us review what has happened, yesterdays arguments compared to today's facts. 1. UNT is a big fish in a small conference, the WAC would make us a smaller fish in a slightly better pond. Not anymore. I asked what would occur if UNT had a losing season, and most stated that that would not occur, that we would forever be in command of the Sun Belt. Now we are at the bottom. 2. UNT would not be competitive in the WAC. Agreed, at least for now. But are we even competitive in the Sun Belt? I would submit that we are not. I would further submit that being non-competitive in a league which has a ranked team is better than being even competitive in a league that nervously waits to have a team with a winning record to qualify for a bowl game. Also, better recruiting for a known league would help competitiveness for the long run. 3. We would not receive any media coverage/even WAC teams receive no coverage Irrelevant. We receive no media coverage now. Where was the news of UNT's latest debacle on the coveted Sunday spread? Did I somehow miss the front page article? Forgive my presentation, but one is deluded to think we get good or better press now. As for the WAC teams not getting any coverage either, VideoEagle states that the DMN has reported that even Fresno State gets no respect from the news. Do we miss the obvious irony of this "proof"? In fact, I shall answer my own question with yet another question: Does anyone on this board believe that the Fresno Bee carried a report last year about how UNT got no respect from national news organizations? I submit that the above is proof that we would receive at least some coverage while in the WAC. 4. Fresno State and Boise State might leave. Signifigant, but again irrelevant. The worst of the WAC is better than the best of the Belt. Yes, Virginia, even 0-12 NMSU could have won 5 games in the Sun Belt, Mr. Dickey. 5. The WAC has poor bowl game options. If we were in the Big 12, yes. But we are in the Sun Belt. A conference with its champion attending the worst bowl in the country is a conference with no bowl options. New Orleans will never be back, and having Lafayette as our backup (instead of the Cotton Bowl, Reliant Stadium, Georgia Dome, or even freakin' Rice Stadium, for crissakes) is laughable. Regardless of its reasons, The Hawai'i and Boise bowls are better games than the Wyndham Lafayette Toilet Bowl. 6. It costs too much! True. So where's the Stadium? We have saved those travel costs and what has it gained for us? A new academic/athletic building and some tennis courts. Where are the baseball and football stadium? We will not get the money for those unless we spend the money to improve the product on the field. That means better competition and perception. Not gonna happen in the Belt. The Sun Belt condemns us to everlasting mediocrity with no new facilities. Better to take the risk. 7. But the soccer/tennis/volleyball/ultimate frisbee/knitting teams will have to travel too far! Who cares. Football and Basketball make the school and pay (or somewhat offset) the bills. Everything else is just there for title IX compliance. Take the bus. 8. We can wait for the CUSA Expansion bus That bus has already left. And it's stopping in Ruston, LA and Troy, AL. We are today much closer to the Southland than the CUSA. I hope to have addressed the balance of the arguments in this debate. Now flame, and I shall gladly answer.
  6. Easy. One game. Make it a clear challenge. He beats SMU, he keeps his job, He loses, he loses doubly. This man must prove his ability to coach at an above-sun-belt level.
  7. Same sorta thing happened on the Student side as well tonight...CSC dudes spent half the 4th quarter chasing down some terrorist-loving tortilla vagrant. Cops just walked the guys out, but still, most of the students in that area cleared out when the cop came. There were really bad spots tonight where a bunch of inebriated college students throwing tortillas really lifted everyone's spirits. And what do they get for that? Marched out of the stadium so that the cheerleaders can throw tortillas at each other without outside interference? It's gonna be an ugly end of the year. We need every fan and every crazy tradition to keep us going and ready to help the team. Even if the track team loses 15 minutes of practice.
  8. Offense! Offense! Offense! UL-LAF 17 UNT 6
  9. Some on this board would suggest Mr. Dickey is already a member of the Narcolepsy Club.
  10. Finally, I was afriad we'd never get on..... And we're above Texas. WOOHOO!
  11. Those players are nothing without fan and alumni support. Seeing as the site of Fouts will in the future become an Opera House for UNT, it's clear what's really important for the University. So they wanted to wallow in pity. Boo hoo. If you really want to fix your problems, you get out there and play. You stay after the game and feel your fans staring at you. You don't hide in the locker room with your coach who tells you it's all the fans fault.
  12. Anyone who produces, sells (as I do) or compiles the US News' rankings can tell you what bunk they are. The better and actually authoritative ranking is the Princeton rating and Classification. In that instance, PMG is quite correct. You're looking at academically one of the best schools in the Southwest, and one which is Research/Doctoral Extensive. That is a rating which matters, as opposed to a vote of US News' editorial board (which is how they get those rankings.)
  13. Actually, the difference is that I think LATECH will keep their starters in for almost all of the game as opposed to LSU, which should have its third string out by the start of the 4th quarter.
  14. Our current conference leader lost its opening game to NW Louisiana!?!? Saying no to the WAC is starting to look mighty expensive.....
  15. Louisiana Tech 49 North Texas 0
  16. I agree the CFN has it wrong, but just not our way. A slightly improved defense will be able to keep LATECH under 50, but one problem remains. No offense. Cobbs will get 100 yards, but the young team will give up that much in penalties alone. There's also no chance of a new O-line suddenly appearing in Ruston. Louisiana Tech 49 North Texas 0 and to save on typing costs: UNT at LSU: hahahahhahahhahahaaahhahahahha. Louisiana State 63 North Texas 0
  17. We better watch out, though. LATECH is watchlisted...
  18. CUSA made a great choice. Good to see all of EP out for the game, it looked great on TV. Ditto on the SMUt smackage.
  19. Maybe (and if possible) submit two logos, use the full NT+Son of Worm for the "big displays" and just SOW when it's minimized. Regardless, a big improvement.
  20. I really would hate to be the bad guy but i'll ask the obvious question. Us or L. Tech? Is this "good" news for a move up?
  21. Ahh, yes. Time to beat the vegas odds.
  22. I think they correctly figure in competition. Our boys are good, but it's the competition they regularly face (UL-Wherever and Florida Extraneous Univeristy) has a big role in their success, and doesn't match the competitive level that a Reggie Bush or even a DeAngelo Williams faces on a weekly basis. Having said that...I still think our boys are better than #17 and #21, respectively.
  23. Shows ambition. Wish we had more like that....
  24. I'm Happy to see ANY passion for UNT at the football games. If it's tortillas, Scrappy in a sheet or tearing down goalposts....it's good to see that sort of passion in Denton.
  25. While we're talkin other sports (which are just as critical as F-Ball IMO)...I wonder if RV's thought about adding NCAA Hockey....i'td be a little pricey, but may attract many people in the Metroplex, and would be good press , as we'd be the first Texas school to do it.
