Man...I know my comment was blasphemy, but Coach Fry is retired and Coach Mac is still here and can do a lot for UNT. No that Coach Mac reads my posts but if he does then at least I wanted him to aim HI!!!

$15,000.00 isn't much considering what Coach Mac has done here. It's a litte premature to say Coach Mac is the best UNT coach of all time considering Hayden Fry coached here. However, if Coach Mac continues to improve our program the way I believe he can then Hayden Fry just might become second chair to coach Mac. Wonder if Hayden Fry could have been sucessful getting UNT into the SWC with a brand new stadium? Oh, Coach Fry might not have been able to get around SMU politics, but look at where SMU is today. Sometimes time is a great equalizer!!!

Man, UNLV Basketball team is strong. Wish we hadn't lost JJ because he would have taken us to new high's. Now it's up to Coach Mac and staff to carry the load.

The reason the 3 teams we lost to are ranked below us is that we mentally played to the level of our competition and got our butts kicked as we should have. This program isn't Baylor, OU, OSU cowboys, OSU Buckeye's, or even UT. We can't just show up and win we have to work for it and put 2 good half's of football together. If we'd taken care of business we'd be ranked higher than the teams we've beaten. Go Mean Green!!!

We're the visiting team believe it or not so I'd bet away side. Others can confirm visiting team but I'm almost 100% on visiting team. Doesn't make any sense about UNT being visiting team and only being located within 50 or so miles from bowl game. It's not like we're playing SMU on New Years Day!!! Oh, poor SMU...their not even bowling!!! Happy Day for the UNT Nation!!!

Great promo ideas. Hay RV why don't you search our journailism graduate lists for lets say the last 20+ years and see how many of them are in the sports or other media position around the US. I bet a good number of them work for ESPN. Reachout to them and ask that they promote game across the US or better yet attend the game. In addition to putting folks in the stands we might be able to increase national TV ratings. In addition to attendance ESPN looks at bowl ratings!!!!

I'd never thought in a Million years UNT would have been in a New Year's day Bowl game at the beginning of the season. I wasn't a fan of Coach Mac hire based on his B12 record but now thankfully I'm eating a lot of crow. Based on posters view of DT I'm sure a fair amount of honest meangreen.com posters are suprised we're in a New Years Day Bowl also. I hope our AD does an exceptional job in planing and promoting HOD bowl. Based on experience my expections of this happing are slim to none, but I didn't think we play in a New Year's Day Bowl either. Congradulations to: RV, Coach Mac., our assistant coach's, and our entire football team!!!! Go Mean Green!!!

Everywhere Benson has been his conferences have been shafted or re-constructed out of existance. To bad for our old conference mates. I fear under new play off system if you're not in an AQ conference with a really good team you're probably going to feel like you've been shafted. Have you noticed under new play off system no allowances have been made for a non AQ team like Boise St. that beat Okahoma in the Sugar Bowl. I believe they played in Sugar bowl if memory serves.

Not very happy about UNLV considering talk of Michigan as possible opponent. However, there will be lot's of Gamblers New Year's day weekend in Vegas. Vegas supports UNLV. All the casino's, their employee's and Vegas natives will be interested in this game and talking about the game to numours Casino guests and gamblers watching and betting on all the New Year's day bowl games!!! All the casino sports books will be broadcasting UNT and UNLV if that's our opponent. This means great exposure to fans of all teams that don't know about UNT. If we win game it will be talked about by every gambler in Vegas who bet's on or against us. I know we're dispointed, but we could be playing an oppenant that doesn't mean anything to the largest gambling city in the US and the world for that matter. This is PR UNT would have to spend millions on and never would and ESPN might be doing UNT a big favor!!! We just need to bring HOD bowl win home!!!

Texas doesn't have State income tax and I'm sure Illinois does. Hopefully Coach Mac will stay. Just hope RV ponies but the $$$'s to at least keep Coach Mac if it comes to that. I wasn't a big fan of hiring coach Mac after Dodge era, but I was wrong!!!! I'll be eating crow for a long time over that. So, great hire RV. Here's hoping Coach Mac likes UNT and Denton, TX. enough to stay here a long time and talks RV out of some of the $$$'s UNT is bringing into the AD.

Coaching change? RV loves Coach Benford. I held my breath all of last season for change, but RV's man crush or the adminstrations man crush on Coach Benford is way to strong. JJ build our program Coach Benford is distroying it. I was Wrong with at Capital "W" about Coach "Mac", so my apologies to Coach Mac and RV on that hire. I can't eat enough crow pies, but about coach Benford I'm not wrong. Just can't hold my breath any longer. At least I can move back to FB board until we get a new BB coach that will have to bring us back from the ashes!!!! Mark my words JJ will be in the coaching HOF just like Hayden Fry. It sure was fun while JJ was here!!!!!

Mr. Mitchell will be heard from again. It maybe a few years at worst. Once Mr. Mitchell becomes an NBA success story the sad truth will be that none of his Millions will ever come back to UNT. I bet Tony's will be making Millions and RV will still have our loser Coach Benford around destroying our Men's basketball program!!!!

Unfortunately this is all on RV and UNT administration above RV probably. This is just a message board I know, but at the beginning of the season most of the wise UNT basketball faithful posted we'd have our worst season in years and our program would be set back at least 10 to 30 plus years if coach Benford wasn't fired after UAH game!!! RV didn't have the guts so were just along for the ride. Only question is will our program be set back as many as 3 decades, or just 1 decade. I pray it's on 10 years...time will tell. Come on Andrew close your go ahead defend Benford!!!

Don't know how the right hire will be after Benford. Clearly the last "right" hire we had was Coach Jones. He built our program. Turned down other SEC jobs before leaving for his school LSU. Problem with Coach Benford he was given proven winnner, couldn't handle the pressure, isn't coaching material. Now every new recruit has seen him in action and that should scar them 1/2 to death. To top that off our AD doesn't have the guts to fire Benford hire someone like Tuby Smith (sp), and have "name coach" talk Tony into staying another year showing Tony he'll install an offense that Tony can furish in for one more year and restoring millions to Tony's pocket book. Benford cost UNT and Tony Mitchell millions and RV still believe's Benford's a winner, or can't/won't admitt Coach Benford was the wrong man as UNT head BB coach. As countless times before UNT faithfull are being asked to walk through the dessart like for another 30 to 40 years to sniff a shot at winning. Again, my thanks...let's toast RV for the distruction of a perfectly good basketball program.

With all due respect Rick, Larry Brown has a reputation that's much different than Coach Benford's!!! I don't think SMU will have to shell out any money to kick UNT in the backside from a recruiting standpoint. I expect almost any Texas D1 team and LSU for that matter to out recruit UNT. If RV won't do his job then we're just along for the long ride down to the basement. JJ just showed UTN nation what UNT could be, not would be with a "Todd Dodge" like coach!!!

Dam...I thought RV was keeping Benford around only because he could recruit. I was wrong...Should have posted a "Benford's been fired by UNT post", but I knew no one would belive it. Oh, I don't look at board daily like I used to so posting April fools joke not possible since I didn't even look at board on 4.1.2013. Oh well...Good luck recruiting coach Benford. Perfect...I used to log onto Go Mean Green.com serveral if not many times a day to read if not post in BB board. I'd hardly ever go to football forum. For many years I spent my time on football forum until JJ and men's basketball won me over. I like any sport fan enjoy following a winner or at least team capable of winning more often than not. JJ and men's BB did it for me. Now I hardly go to Go Mean Green.com at all. Haven't been onsite in weeks. I posted months ago that RV should reach down deep for the Gutts, or Jewel's to fire Coach Benford. Did happen...reality set in so no Go Mean Green.com. What was supposed to be our shinning season for national acclaim and recognition (sp) has been shot in the face by coach Benford like so many others ie Coach Newman, and Coach Dodge. Getting sick at my stomuch (sp) just writing post.

NM Green, With all due respect, if you give Benford & Co. two more years UNT Men's basketball will be back in the stone age!!! Blame the players, but if you think this is on the players I've got news for you, your wrong! JJ and LSU just beat MSU yesterday and knocked off the number #17th team in the country the game before that. JJ did this again with lesser talent than both of his last 2 opponents because his team believes in him, his system, and plays with hart. LSU was down by 14 at the half yesterday and down as many as 17, but battled the whole game, believed in themselve and brought home the "W". MSU didin't know what hit them. Benford can't motivate this team to believe or even grasp his system, and this is with one of the most talented players in the college game Mr. Tony Mitchell. There's no telling how good TM will be once he gets a far away from Benford as humanly possible. Do you believe TM will ever donate any of the millions he's going to make when he's in the NBA? FAT CHANCE!! This is squarely on RV and Benford. Now RV because he doesn't have the gutt's to fire Benford and Co. right now, or 30 to 60 days ago. What's RV's upside in waiting? I'd bet you Tony Mitchell's high school coach could have won more games than Benford has if he were coaching UNT men's basketball. If Benford can't coach or motivate players how do you expect him not to whipped up one side of the barn and down the other in upcoming recruiting battles against JJ, UTA's coach, or insert any other's coach's name here after our season's over. Crap, once again I'm preaching to myself and the "insert your favorate word here".

I posted about LSU and JJ not because JJ beat the number 17th team in the country or because I care about LSU basketball. I posted win because I respect JJ as a coach and don't respect the decision RV made hiring Benford, or what Benford's done since arriving at UNT. Benford & Co, and the players if you want to blame them are FLAMING UNT men's basketball and set our program back 3 to 4 decades or more. I posted because JJ has his team ready to play and LSU from talent standpoint is undermaned in SEC play, but what's JJ doning? WInning, has his players motivated and playing the system of BB that JJ installs, like to play/run, and freaking wins more often than not when doing so. Do I wish JJ was still here...HELL YES, but JJ finally got his "dream" job after bring our program back from the dead!!! Where are we headed now...back to the Dead!! Benford can't motivate his team out of a paperbag, or coach for that matter. Do you think Benford can recruit? I bet no. Benford recruited some good players after arriving hear, but he was able to do so based on JJ success. Now everyone can see he can't coach or motivate his players out of a paper bag. RV is the only one that can save us now. I'm going to us JJ as a reference point to our failing program as he was the last coach that knew how to motivate a UNT men's team, win, and recruite. Oden now plays for JJ and was smart enough to follow the man that recruited him.

Hey Bro, Good Luck getting answers!!! I've posted my thoughts long before your post all but Daring RV to do the right thing and fire Benford! I did this soon after the season start like many others. I gave many reason why RV should have the "guts" to do what is/was necessary to save UNT Men's BB program before we're thrown back into the "ice ages" of losing men's BB. Several posters told me to stop wasting my breath. Reluctantly I've had to take their advice (after mentally beating myself into submission)! RV and the administration are the only ones with the power to change anything and they're not going to in time for this team to be successful with Tony Mitchell still here to lead or be the centerpoint of our team. This means they've given up on our team too. Looks like they're willing to take the PR hit and believe that some future coach or affilation with CUSA will allow for a program turnaround that will probably never happen or take 5 to 30 years. I've started following LSU BB because I'm so angery, and frustrated by what I've seen take place with our men's BB team. I'm going to save myself the grief. RV or someone many years down the line will/can fix this situation, but it may never happen. I live in Houston or I gurantee you I'd ask the question(s) that need to be asked! Would I be given an honest anwser as to why there's a huge pink elephant in the middle of the living room, Fat chance!!!! Go on looking for anwsers if you wish. Sadly, you already have the anwsers you seek, you just don't have any power to change the situation!!! Clearly the Man, or group of men that can change things won't until Hell frezee's over, or they've choosen to wait until all the water evaporates from the thaw after the Freeze.
