  1. I'm assuming he was the first and only person they called. I dont think its because they "can't" land a HC with experience, it's that they didn't want to.
  2. Tom Brady didn't suck. He was recruited to Michigan in their heyday.
  3. If MWC wants to move east and pick up 4 schools (say UTEP, Tulsa, UNT, *gulp*UTSA), I'm on board with this move. Then you still have those nearby schools that would probably be in your division, meaning only 1 or 2 away games in Mountain or Pacific time. When UNT was in the Big West, we were on a deserted island with AR St. Now if we make a move from the existing C-USA to the existing MWC... then I'm not on board.
  4. Lol. I've never seen this article before, but it pretty much confirmed what I think about him. 1 word... rhymes with 'hitter'.
  5. If we're talking about what Vizza could have been, then you gotta wonder what Smith could have been as well. I was sure we would have had a QB controversy in fall practice that year between he and Hall.
  6. Some people care WAY too much about twitter.
  7. ...and one ahead of the starting QB of the team in the NC game: Golston.
  8. Yep. Welcome to the 'hip-hop' world KRAM!
  9. Yeah, I think there would be a 'buzz' about UNT. I think wins against Idaho, Ohio and/or Ball St, and some conference wins would certainly bring the students out. I bet it would even bring some sports-interested alumni back, and you're right, that alone would almost fill up the stadium. And IF (big IF) we're bowl eligible next season, that may even pique more interest. But I'm sure there would still be plenty of apathy out there from a large amount of alumni until we knock off a big program.
  10. IMO, It's because even while I was there as late as 2005 no one cared about UNT athletics. It was not cool to be excited about UNT athletics. I can only imagine that apathy for UNT sports existed prior to my time there. How far back? Who knows? But all of those students who passed through campus during that time graduated with their degree and never enjoyed UNT sporting events... because it wasnt cool. Those students have no fun memories (as a matter of fact, they probably have detrimental memories) of any games they attended. What is interesting is that when Dodge got here is about the time that students started getting excited about UNT sports. I don't know if the two are correlated though. But it just seems cooler to be on board with the Mean Green now than it did in 2005. This season's basketball team was expected to be a historic one. One that could possibly pull some of those apathetic alumni back in becuase, "hey, UNT is actually good at something!"... instead, we're monumentally underachieving. In football, If UNT were to pull some stunners like ULM did against Alabama or Arkansas the past few years... You'd better believe Apogee would be packed for the remainder of the year because, "hey, UNT beat a big-time team that people have heard of! I'd better go see if they're good! (because I want to be associated with a winner)." Fear not Mean Green friends! The 'sleeping giant' moniker is VERY apt for our University... but we're currently in a coma and we will be until we beat Georgia next fall. If we don't do that, then we'll have to keep sleeping until we beat the other body bag game scheduled in 2014. If we don't beat that team, then we'll have to keep sleeping until we beat the other body bag game scheduled for 2015, etc... Or, if we're going to go the basketball route, we'll wake up when we win a game or 2 in the NCAA's.
  11. Oh. That would also make sense. I thought he did a salute, and probably with incorrect form, and the Marine went drill sergeant on him.
  12. I'm certainly on board with this KRAM. I just don't think this was the sentiment of the topic. The gist, at least what I got out of it, was to talk up and give kudos for all of the good things going on at UNT (which there are some great things going on here!), while ignoring accountability for the bad things going on at UNT (and there are some bad things going on here). If all Mean Green fans simply wave the pom-poms and buy season tickets, then coach Dodge would probably still be here, and still losing, because there would be no pressure on RV to make any changes. For instance, I'm sure the guys our football staff are recruiting are great character guys, and there may even be some diamonds in the rough, but overall, if you take a step back, recruiting is not going well. I believe GMG.com is the correct forum to vent that frustration... not AD folks' offices. I don't even think we need to mention basketball... Conversely, there are great things happening at UNT athletics. We're moving to a new, better conference! Our soccer ladies won conference! We had several FB players named to the all conference teams! Our game at the super pit on Dec. 20th will have 40+ NBA scouts in attendance! GMG.com is also the correct forum to laud these great things.
  13. For me, that game fell squarely on the skillet hands of Mike Outlaw.
  14. I'm definitely a fan of Chico as an OC. Looking back at his time at USF... I don't think there's any argument that his offense was effective. But as for the Arizona stint, let's take a look: 2004: He wound up having to start 2 different QB's in 2004... hey, at least they pulled the trigger on a change when their first QB did not produce. Neither are guys that are worth mentioning. 2005: Forced to burn Willie Tuitama's redshirt late in the season because of poor QB play. Scored in bunches with him in there. Of course, Tuitama was a true freshman, so there were struggles as well. 2006: With Tuitama again (now a Soph) they got to 6-6. This was not good enough for AZ, so he was let go and went back to USF. AZ regresses to 5-7 in 2007. Chico needs good QB play to be effective. I hope he gets a crack with Berglund, assuming Berglund's the real deal.
  15. Didn't she have problems with coaches Stephens & Aston as well?
  16. I don't know about you, but I'm going to schedule my 15 minute gripe session with RV for Friday at 2:00pm... it was the first time he could fit me in because of all of the other MGC members who are also scheduling gripe sessions with him "in private". Honest questions for those of you who don't like the "public negativity"... Are you satisfied with how the football team did this season? Are you satisfied with what the basketball team is doing so far this season? If you're satisfied, you must have extremely low expectations for the Mean Green. This should be unacceptable and you are part of the problem. If you're not satisfied, and you have an ear with Rick V, then fantastic!! Guess what? He probably doesnt need you or any of us to vent directly to him unless you're going to write checks to instantly fix the issues. I am a Rick V fan. I have faith that Rick understands exactly what is going on. I don't believe he's sitting idly by, but he doesn't have the finances of a UT/A&M to rectify the issues. The last thing he needs is tons of people talking to him "in private" just to vent frustrations and propose fixes without financial backing. What good does that do? Harry has created a fan message board for fans to vent frustrations as well as herald successes! THANK YOU HARRY!! We've had some successes this year. We've also had some failures. The fan base reacts to both equally. We're FANS!! And the great thing is... Rick V and staff, don't have to read this board if they don't want to and would be free to work on the things they need to address.
  17. Mention the Troy game 1 more time!!! I DARE YOU!! Anyone that mentions offensive woes and the TROY game in the same breath, is a stone-cold football dummy. Or, simply did not watch the game and has no clue of how it went down. I am sorry I was unclear. When the offense sucks, you look at what the problem was... Poor QB play. So PUT IN A NEW QB.
  18. So WKU is still in the SBC right? If so, good for them!
  19. I agree. And I dont think anyone is saying that he IS entitled to anything because of his star status because we have all seen plenty of busts with stars. However, I think the excitement around him is because of the play we had this year at QB, and the glaring need for improvement at that position. If he lives up to his star status, then we have that improvement. He just has to go out and work for it... and I bet he will.
  20. If Berglund doesn't come in here with a feeling/belief that the job is his, then he's not worth the recruitment. I highly doubt he feels like all he has to do is "show up". If he's not working hard, that will certainly show up in his performance during spring practice.
  21. Don't talk to me about Russell stuff unless yours were also too small and the color almost completely faded after washed for the first time...
  22. Oh, BARF!! If you love him so much, why don't you marry him? Already sick of this dude and the Aggie fans that come with him. Gimme Klein. *The guy that single-handedly beat UNT to get his team to a Big12 championship. *I know he didn't single-handedly beat UNT, but I want to try and romanticize him as much as possible, just like his competition from A&M.
  23. I'd say the pipeline is already in place, we just need the recurits to continue to flow... Orr/Jimmerson/Terrell...
  24. South Dakota. A school that he already had ties to since they were recruiting him out of HS. And another reason was probably due to the fact that he was let go EXTREMELY LATE in the year, where only a few schools even had openings for him. Luckily, a school that he was already familiar with had a spot open for him! I'll bet all of the other SBC schools would have been interested, but he would not have been released to them. And if you're trying to insinuate that his level of play was so poor that only USD would take a flyer on him... then maybe we should ask these same questions about Roger Franklin. He probably wasn't going to contribute at OSU after his lackluster Freshman campaign, and transfered to little ol' UNT so he could get some PT. Right? I mean, if you didn't know about his dad, that's what it looks like. Whatever... the point in all of this is that you are drawing conclusions based on what you know, which you have to admit, is very little. Travis is trying to say that he knows much more about the situation and that you are incorrect in your conclusions. Can you agree with that?
