  1. Never mind my original question as to what F1+ means. Here's the link: Fitch ratings definitions
  2. Administrators, if anyone has brought up this link before, please delete it. I was just looking around on the Yahoo sports pages and came across this by Terry Bowden written on May 25. Remember how Todd Dodge emphasized recruiting the Metroplex when he was hired? Bowden seems to agree with the concept. If you can't think of any reason to feel good about UNT football right now, check out the concepts Bowden presents, and the fantastic website he links to with a geographer's guide to college football; then see if you can't agree with Dodges's reasoning for recruiting the Metroplex. And hey, anybody who's hooked on football and maps could spend days on the mapping site! Bowden on finding football players MapGameDay.com
  3. Just what I thought when I first saw the title of this thread.
  4. Again, I find agreement with you. I find it useful to look for points of agreement with my Republican friends. My favorite Conservative Republican at work and I found that we agree on one thing which may have something to do with this energy issue: "We're overpopulated". Unfortunately, there's no pleasant solution to overpopulation. Maybe some of the Conservative proposals would buy us some time, probably not soon, and uncertain as to how long (more drilling offshore in the Continental U.S. and ANWR, fewer environmental restrictions on refineries). I actually think those have some potential, but still doubt those would lower prices at the pump (maybe reduce the rate of increase). I'm among those who believe there's less price increase caused by supply vs. demand than by commodities investor's looking for better returns than stocks are providing these days. I do think there's a valid question as to whether increased supply by drilling in more places will be used as a window of opportunity to get away from reliance on fossil fuels, or just an opportunity to continue as we have: consume nonrenewable fuels with no regard for future shortages/cost increases.
  5. I do find it odd the trouble you mention with chows: I've lived in households with chow or chow mix dogs for at least 10 out of the last 15 years and never had any problems with any, which includes 2 purebred chows and 3 chow mix. At present I live in a duplex, and between us and our tenants, we have 2 chow mix and 1 purebred. I ve never felt hesitant to let any kids who see them in the park and want to pet them, do so. I do think that chows guard territory jealously, and that care should be taken when bringing a stranger into a house or yard with a chow there. The owner should be with any guest long enough for both humans and dogs to feel comfortable. I agree 100% about the dumbass owners; that's really where all responsibilities lie.
  6. Maybe this is not all that unusual in college football. I guess I was surprised to read about what Darren McFadden had to say on the same subject. On the playbook: “It’s something different. They hand you a playbook with pens and highlighters in there with a notebook to take notes. That’s something you don’t get in college. If you want to take notes you have to come with your own stuff. So I knew it was serious once they handed a playbook out like that.” Darren McFadden; difference between College and NFL football.
  7. Ok, I get it. And you are a fairly good wordsmith (but then so am I)!
  8. I'd say that Hockaday is more than "fairly" prestigious. Maybe the same level as St. Marks School, but for girls. Mind you I'm no advocate of private over public schools, but Hockaday is definitely up there in terms of quality education.
  9. That's some useful insight; conditioning is essential; academic progress is absolutely essential.
  10. Alright, dude, you got a good laugh out of me on that one!
  11. What about the slow, dramatic buildup to number one, the way Letterman does it, like: And now, the number one question to ask yourself if you have a robot lover....are you cheating on your blow up woman?
  12. Hey folks, I know I'm getting in on this one late, and haven't taken the time to read through the whole thread and figure out all the issues. I did however, receive some insight on the perceived value of gas today that I'd like to share. Two of my coworkers, both of whom work in downtown Dallas and live in northeast Dallas, went down to Sneaky Pete's on Lake Lewisville last weekend for what they thought was a social for GIS (professionals (that's Geographic Information Systems, for you non GIS insiders). They were not able to find any fellow GIS geeks, finally settling for a hamburger and beer, but no professional camaderie. Did they mind the approximately $8 in gas they each spent to get there? According to them, no...seeing many beautiful women at Sneaky Pete's made it all worthwhile. I guess the moral is, if you're going to get gouged for gas, make sure you enjoy the trip!
  13. You're always cheery, seldom factual...yes, I checked.
  14. Ah, the joy of colorblindness; I'm never sure if it's green koolaide i'm drinking. My wife helps as much as she can.
  15. Eulessismore looks like his avatar, and will meet anyone, any time, on any Safeway or Tom Thumb parking lot to prove it. In fact, I'm going to the Tom Thumb at Hwy 121 and Harwood right now. Eulessismore is a white dude, but many, including my wife and more than one person of color, have said they're sure that I'm not all white. Who is?
  16. Thank you, thank you, thank you...and, in gratitude for your spirited defense of my ethnically friendly self, next time you're at the Greek Food Festival in Euless, (held every October), message me in advance and I'll buy you an ouzo, or if you're a teetolaler, a baklava and coffee! Opa!
  17. Well, as sparse as pickings are over on the Football forum these days, I'm thinking I'll just hang around there. Always hoping for a little rain, but storm fronts can be a concern...
  18. I know this isn't very specific, asking which of either defensive or offensive line newcomers will contribute the most in 2008, but I'm asking it this way for these reasons: 1. Some immediate needs on both sides of the line were apparent last spring, due to graduation, departures, injuries, etc. 2. Some of our line recruits have either played both sides, or will play on a different side at UNT than in high school; Jordan Scoggins has been switched to DT from TE in High School, Troy Franklin and Tevinn Cantly played both sides, as did one of our JUCO transfers (Hollivay, I believe). 3. Sometimes a good offense can hide weaknesses in a defensive unit (such as defensive tackle; I don't know if the reverse is true). I suppose a good offensive line and an effective running game could be part of that. 4. Some may start out the year on one side and get changed to another as needs arise from injuries, etc. I'll skip my sentimental favorites; Jordan Scoggins (he played for Euless Trinity and I just find him physically impressive), and Tevinn Cantly (one of my coworkers is familiar with Arlington Lamar, and considers him the best prospect he's seen from Lamar in years). My prediction as the best new interior lineman in 2008: Nate Jenkins. He's had an additional 2 years experience by playing JUCO football, and according to what Brett Vito has written lately, seems to be taking care o business academically. So, out of Redshirt freshmen from last year, true freshmen and JUCO transfers who signed in 2008, and anyone else, who for whatever reason did not play on the offensive or defensive line for UNT last year but is projected to this year, who do you think will contribute the most and why?
  19. What about two of the biggest music towns for their size, Denton and Lubbock, starting a home and home (Tech/UNT) annual football game/music festival; Rocktoberfest!
  20. I just started thinking about this when I read (on the board today) about the possibility of the Radisson being imploded. Made me wonder, since so many have mentioned wanting to see that happen to Fouts, how many would pay for the chance to trigger that. Of course it's already been done...in Cincinnati. Come on guys, how much would you put up (all proceeds going to new stadium CONSTRUCTION) to trigger the charge, do the countdown, have VIP seats for you and your friends to see it, etc.? Warning: linked page seems slow to open up. Raffle to implode stadium in Cincinnati
  21. I think that you've pointed out the difficulties in finding better opponents than we already have by including Buffalo and Ohio. I'm sure some here would be excited about those two, but that more (like me) don't even know much about them. I think we could find better than those among FCS teams, such as Northern Iowa, McNeese, or Southern Illinois.
  22. Hi, Top Brain Man. I'm guessing there's a question in there, so I bolded it. I wasn't asking for a comparison of KSU and Tulsa, I was asking about which game meant the most to UNT, because: 1. We're playing KSU first and Tulsa second to start next season. 2. Each of them has whipped North Texas in the last two games we've played each of them (doesn't THAT make you happy?). 3. Each of them had historic wins against North Texas (KSU ending a 2 year losing streak in 1989, and Tulsa starting a 3 year run of bowl appearances in 2005). 4. Silly me, I'm just thinking that if other teams can have wins which are perceived as significant turning points by their fans (I guess that's why KSU fans tore their goalposts down), so can North Texas. Oh, and overall against KSU, Tulsa is 11-6, winning the last 8 in a row; maybe that's why KSU hasn't played them since 1982. Yes, Tulsa is 15-6 against North Texas, winning the last 6 in a row, but we don't give up that easily. Cheers, Mr Happy!
  23. According to this article, he is. Paul Smith to Jacksonville Jaguars
