  1. Of course this is all just my opinion, but now is not the time to worry about holding someone off the field for the sake of keeping their "red shirt". The rest of the season must be about trying our damnedest to win football games. Likewise, if someone has little chance of playing at their current position (Daniel Meager on special teams or as safety? I hear he's fast), I say give them a shot where there's a need. I don't believe Tevinn Cantly has played so far; he said when he committed he didn't want to be redshirted. In high school he played O-line, as well as defensive end and defensive tackle (correct me if it was really nose guard or tackle). I'd like to see him on the D-line to see if he could get a pass rush. Inexperienced, maybe, but how else does a guy get experience? This is based on my theory that a pass rush is what we're most lacking.
  2. Is that the approximate plot to "Necessary Roughness"? Sorry to say, I never watched it.
  3. I thuoght it was the definition of insanity, but it should work for both...
  4. I don't know for sure that Harbaugh wouldn't have taken the position here; I believe he was working on a volunteer basis at the University of San Diego just before he interviewed. I do think it may have been a problem that Harbaugh was facing charges on a DUI at the time he interviewed, and that probably came out. I think North Texas may have been trying to get away from alcohol related problems in the football program at that time.
  5. Hey Owl40, we're just kinda stunned here. I guess I could be a better fan, but left for a dance party with wife and mother-in-law after listening to the first half on the radio here in Euless. The only irony to me is that I think that if Rice could claw itself up to the point where it is now, there's no reason UNT can't. Excuses maybe, reasons no.
  6. It kind of reminds me of when they came out with a study a couple of years ago finding that men who were married lived longer; someone commented that it may just seem longer.
  7. Sad to say, from the last time I looked at the UNT website, it was in serious need of help. A few years ago, I had someone from the UNT Art Department who was teaching photoshop make a presentation at a camera club I belong to in the Hurst Euless Bedford Area. He mentioned that he often had his ex students from UNT calling him and telling him about all the money they were making (millions!) using the skills they had learned (mostly photoshop) at UNT. If they can get anyone competent and creative to help that website for free, I'd say do it. Failing that, pay them good money, but PLEASE, let's not be satisfied with the status quo in terms of the official UNT website.
  8. I'm throwing in with those who say build it w/32k quality seats, WITH expandibility planned, fill it consistently, then expand it. Folks, without quality, you have nothing. Once you have a quality stadium and football team, anything is possible. For those who think you can't do all that much with that size of stadium, consider Wake Forest (yes a small school, but a small fish in a big pond of Winston-Salem, N.C.). They're dreaming bigger, but this is what they're doing quite nicely with now. Check out their stadium on Wikipedia: Wake Forest B.B.T. Field
  9. I got this premonition today that UNT will win this one; don't know by what score, or even care. My sisters always thought I inherited my mother's psychic ability. In this case I hope so; we simply need to win!
  10. Just in case it hasn't already been noted here, the same article is in today's Dallas Morning News; Metro Section, page 5. That article is referenced on the front page sidebar of section 2 of the sports page (college football).
  11. QUOTE(eulessismore @ Sep 18 2008, 07:26 PM) I noticed that noone has answered GMG1999's question. What is the purpose of the generators? Surely not providing basic electrical service. If this is true, I think it goes a long way towards explaining the high percentage of students in favor vs. those opposed. This generation of college students is much more environmentally conscious than many think.

  13. As I told this board recently, Denton is full of music critics, who will rightly criticize a bad performance without mercy!
  14. I think there are several reasons why the BCS doesn't want a true playoff, such as: 1. Some of the BCS schools came to football dominance due to racial segregation in southern universities sending the best black football players to northern schools or to historically black southern schools, thus keeping many of the best athletes from playing in major southern conferences, especially the SEC; the end of de jure segregation allowed the southern BCS schools to thrive, but those Jim Crow years established a "winning tradition" in northern schools that they continue to exploit long after they've won convincingly against any major competitors. Appalachian State just exposed a weakness that has long existed in the Northern BCS schools. 2. A playoff system would require the BCS schools to make major changes in strategy to remain competitive. Large, traditional organizations such as the NCAA do not favor change which would threaten many of their most powerful and historically successful members, especially since the policies and personnel of the NCAA have been determined by its most elite schools. 3. The power brokers want their traditional powerhouse schools to go to the best bowls, because...they always have. Parity is starting to work; last year was a prime year for the have nots, but one year does not a revolution make; if it did, North Texas would have been in a bowl in 1977 and Troy last year. My only hope is that enough Non-BCS FCS teams will win head to head against such phony elites as Michigan and Ohio State that not even the best big ten lawyer can make a coherent argument for keeping this dinosaur of a system.
  15. I'm thinking, "no felony indictments of ANY kind!".
  16. I certainly think so if Fitz' injury really was minor, and we can get some of the guys back that we have missed for whatever (injuries, conditioning, academic?) reasons and may be back in time for the Rice game.
  17. I agree. Teams who have outstanding special teams play, like K-State, have an individual whose only responsibility is that of special teams coordinator.
  18. Maybe it was necessary background to the community service part of the story.
  19. Green is all good, except when it's not mean enough.
  20. Congrats on the effort you are putting forth on this stadium issue Flyer. I don't know whether you'd consider yourself an environmentalist (I figure I became one as a North Texas geography grad), but this thread presented information which the environmentally concerned can appreciate. I recently became aware of this type of paving, and have passed the word along to others whenever I get the chance, since the large city where I work has lots of alley repaving in its future. This method certainly has a lot to recommend it; I think it could reduce a lot of stormwater runoff in urban areas.
  21. I've got to agree with you on this Crip. Although I have no logical expectation of UNT beating LSU, I consider logic to be highly overrated in the sports world. Why give up before a down is played? If Boise State had taken the attitude so many of our posters have, maybe they would have forfeited to Oklahoma. Who was Appy State to think they could block a game deciding field goal against Michigan? Hey, Dewey beats Truman!
  22. I was at the Euless Trinity Football Boosters Club meeting last Monday night. Coach Lineweaver and some of the players' parents are not that thrilled about that ranking. But, as Lineweaver said (in so many words), "It will give the players a memento of sorts". They seem to just consider it an unneeded distraction.
  23. I have to agree with our manager, who was watching the game on tv; as he said, "Riley provided a spark".
  24. Tasty, you're the man! I'd invite you to the Greek Food Festival at St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church here in Euless next month, but I don't know what my wife would say...well, she did already say that Miss Piggy has style!
