  1. There's no excuse for the Tulsa game not only to "sell out", but to "fill the stadium". Sometimes, those are not the same.
  2. [During the 1960's, Kansas State was the epitome of football incompetence. In that decade, KSU's record was 18-80-1. They had no winning seasons and had three years with 0 wins. Don't know the significance of that, other than even the most downtrodden program can change its image and record with the right coaches and support.quote name='Green Nightmare' date='Aug 22 2008, 09:28 PM' post='365872'] I don't think any of us do. I choose to believe we can be like them and South Florida etc and hopefully rise to greatness. What about the 1980's, when they played 30 games without a win until they beat us in 1989...and tore down the goalposts? That was their only win that year (under first year coach Bill Snyder), but they did do much better after that, winning 5 games the next year and never returning to the futility of the 60's, 70's and 80's since. Some here may think we owe them one for helping turn their program around. Many will point to Kstate conference which does help, but I like to look at someone like South Florida who literally came from less than we did. Just win baby and lets let the chips fall where they may I don't know about how much their conference helps; they were really a horrible team for decades. I hate to say it, but it's hard to counter the argument that they started winning by scheduling weak ooc teams and signing disproportionate numbers of JUCO's.
  3. I really think the offensive line will be better than last year, and better than the average D1 O-line. I do think that it will be more of a rotation or platooning situation than 5 guys starting and finishing the game. Certainly, stability at the center position would be good, but if Kelvin Drake gets healthy soon enough, I'd rather Drake and Johnson both see plenty of playing time. If Kelvin continues to struggle, Chad Rose, among others, could do well in a two-deep at center.
  4. QUOTE(LoveMG @ Aug 21 2008, 05:34 PM) some have suggested he would save the redshirt year in case a transfer or sitout year was needed. just another theory. do you think if td left later that riley would stay at unt I agree, and I don't say it's just for sentimental reasons (although TD mentioned how much he enjoyed Denton when he was hired). The only way for Todd Dodge to be hired as head coach by a big name program is to have a run of successful seasons at North Texas. The theory that is trotted out once a year saying that Dodge will become offensive coordinator at OU is just that-a theory.
  5. Please excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't a redshirt simply the result of someone not playing during the season, rather than someone being designated as such before the season begins? Did Dodge (or does any coach) "declare" someone as a redshirt, or do they simply not play them? It seems like a decision that would often be useful to delay. Honestly, as long as he can serve some useful purpose, signalling plays or keeping notes, whatever, I'm ok with Riley traveling but not playing.
  6. I haven't heard anything like that mentioned around the City of Dallas lately, and don''t expect to considering our recent history in such matters.
  7. QUOTE(eulessismore @ Aug 16 2008, 10:03 AM) I love it when you talk like that! Oh, please, thank YOU! My day has not been wasted if I can get someone to laugh!
  8. I hate to see Marcus King leave the program. Seeing him making key plays in Euless Trinity's first state championship win was really special. He seemed good at catching the ball in traffic and in critical situations. Last year, it sounded like he was doing well in fall practice, and might have played as a true freshman had he not been injured before the season started. I still remember Todd Dodge telling little stories about the recruits in his first class; the one where that, after Marcus had verballed to North Texas, he would text Dodge messages about players players he should recruit was cool. I'm sure Marcus really wants to get out on the field and play; I wish him well.
  9. Is this the matter in question? Bill Miller throws down the gauntlet, UNT 1990.
  10. A good point, UNTFlyer, especially considering that it was an amendment that sank (for now, anyway)the UNT Law School towards the end of a legislative session. Indifference can't be relied on when the legislature is in session!
  11. I disagree on that point, Eagle. Of the games I attended last year (ok, I'll admit, only Homecoming and Navy), the east side was as full, and it seemed, noisier than the west. And, that wasn't because of the Navy fans for that game; they were in or near the end zones. I say "seemed" noisier, because Fouts has acoustics that causes crowd noise to dissipate.
  12. Well, anyone who has had diabetes in the family (sister with type 1, wife type 2) can appreciate that staying healthy is more important than football (hard as that is to believe). I can only wish Justin Padron well in whatever he does next, and that he enjoys good health.
  13. Did anyone notice whether Samir Baker, RB from Euless Trinity, got any carries?
  14. Just based on the reviews so far, I won't listen to it. Are those posting here slamming the high profile of the UNT School of Music rethinking their position?
  15. Just offhand, how much is either team expected to rely on JUCO transfers for linemen (on either side of the ball)?
  16. I know the whole thing seems weird, but North Texas probably comes closer to having the personnel to benefit from this than almost any school in Texas. My prediction is that we will be the first to D1 school to run this offense, eventually using it for 10 or 12 plays a game. The deciding factor as to when we would do so may be the rate of progress in developing interior linemen. A potential benefit for a pass first offense would be to use it for running plays and screen passes to pick up intermediate yardage and eat up the clock, giving our defense a break.
  17. Hey, I'm no checkfacts, but, It.Aint.Worth.It. If anyone thinks criminals are cool, find some crackheads or meth freaks to hang out with for a while.
  18. To get Don Henley involved, he might want the gomeangreen.com Football Forum to quit writing about North Texas musicians being a detriment to North Texas Athletics. What about one of the very few banks with a good reputation? I've heard Frost Bank is a pretty good outfit. I'm kinda like Boone Pickens, in that I really see natural gas and wind energy as being our energy future, and we have a lot of both going on in Texas...pretty sure that Pickens won't help out the North Texas athletic programs, unless we promised never to beat Okie State at anything. Hey, how about "Green Mountain Energy Go Mean Green Stadium"...too many greens? Not to leave Fry and Mitchell out, maybe name the turf "Fry Field" and Mean Green Village "Mitchell Village".
  19. Other than those excusing said negativity because "it's July and there's not much else to talk about", I think you've just about covered it!
  20. Hallelujah! We need those big guys, and when we get one being recruited like he is, it's a big deal.
  21. I noticed Samir Baker, running back from Euless Trinity is on the North squad, and hasn't signed to play football anywhere...he's only 5'6", 185, but he was so instrumental in Trinity winning state in 2007...I'm still hoping he gets picked up somewhere. It's like he said (in so many words) "If someone could just look at the size of my heart". I believe that if some college coach gave him a chance, they would not regret it.
  22. I didn't mean that he would replace Horton as a projected DE, but that he would replace Horton on my list for prospective impact players.
