  1. I understand your point, but this stance is exactly what will be the death of programs like North Texas. The programs, boosters, fans that truly embrace the idea of NIL will leap frog programs that don't. For a case in point, look at how SMEWW has gone all in on NIL and leap frogged the competition and even bought their way in to the ACC. We can complain about the way things are all we want, but it won't change anything. If we don't support the new world order then blood will be on our hands when UNT gets left behind, but I am sure we will conveniently forget about that part when the time comes.
  2. His inability to prevent a mass exodus of productive players with remaining eligibility makes me think this. I think they call the image below 'foreshadowing'. 😆
  3. Using similar logic, what makes you think we can recruit impact players via HS without outbidding another school's NIL collective? If you believe we are able to recruit a higher level athlete via HS than the portal for the same amount of NIL money then HS recruiting seems to make some sense, but you are always at an elevated risk of losing the player once they show any sign of ability. If you go with the assumption we can only afford the same level of talent via the portal than we can via HS recruiting, at least the portal players are less likely to transfer again until graduation due to having to sit a year. Unfortunately, the reality is the only way to maintain or move up in the pecking order is with money. Even when you hit on a previously unproven player they will immediately be gone if you can't pay to keep/replace them and will be stuck on the eternal treadmill. Not sure what the answer is but we need to get creative with NIL. Going to have to go outside the box because it is pretty clear so far we aren't going to raise the necessary funds organically.
  4. The only person at risk of wasting our HC is our offensive coordinator masquerading as a HC. He needs to learn the HC ropes quickly because the he showed up to begin the season completely overwhelmed and incapable of preparing a team to start the season. It looked like he might have been turning the corner toward the end of the year, but now seems completely overwhelmed trying to keep his roster together. This offseason certainly won't bring stability with the amount of roster repair that has to take place. Hopefully he shows up next season better prepared than this season. I have my doubts.
  5. The anti trust exemptions are going to be the key to all of this. The amount of money that will line politician's pockets will no doubt be huge regarding this topic and I am sure big money will eventually win out and the athletes will ultimately lose this aspect, but they will win the right to get more money than they have in the past. If it truly becomes pay for play and players become employees I believe most universities will be forced to shut down organized sports and revert to intramural/club. However, I doubt it gets to that point and they figure out a way to pay players enough to keep them somewhat content without being employees. Going to be an interesting few years. For what its worth, most of the rest of the world's universities operate on the intramural/club model when it comes to sports, although Japan has recently embarked on an intercollegiate journey somewhat similar to the US model.
  6. The guy that started the year in front of the 9th ranked QB in the portal is also in the portal. Maybe we can get him.
  7. You need to account for inflation. https://www.on3.com/college/north-texas-mean-green/football/2024/transfers/
  8. Craponi is keeping most of his guys out of the portal? 💩
  9. The season is ending in complete chaos just as it began.
  10. Should just convert to MLB minor league or Armed Forces GI bill approach. No school while you are working/playing. School pays your room and board and a salary while playing sports. Schools put money in a fund and the players can access their funds after their playing time is over for school or whatever. This is about to go nuclear.
  11. NCAA Proposes schools managing their own NIL programs. Allow richest programs to establish their own rules regarding most things. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/39047353/ncaa-proposes-rule-let-schools-athletes-enter-nil-deals
  12. Multiple starting QBs at P5 schools now entering portal. Big time money grab going on from more than just backups at this point. It was all shits and giggles when P5 schools were poaching from the lower conferences, but now that they are poaching from each other I think it will changes things. Can't imagine BMDs are going to put up with this for too long before they realize this is just nuclear war and nobody wins (e.g. pro sports salary caps). This will only spiral upward if controls are not put in place.
  13. The LTTC seems more focused on big money donors and businesses. The MGC appears to be initially focused on basketball and makes it easier for smaller donors to get involved via the payment mechanism. It would be really interesting/scary to see what our NIL budget is for average football/basketball player and compare that to the rest of the conference. I feel certain we are well short of where we need to be.
  14. Playoff committee officially boots ACC from power conference status by keeping undefeated conference champ out of playoffs
  15. We have somehow stumbled into a potential generational QB (we tried our best to keep him on the bench) and somehow screwed it up by not even putting a mediocre defense on the field. Plenty of teams run the 335 defense. Maybe our DC is just not very good.
  16. What do those sites say about which defense is best for smaller, slower linemen?
  17. At least we agree on the Coog high part. Take away frito bandito pouring cash into the program and the Coogs would still be in the AAC. Let's see how long boosters of programs like Hooston want to continue to pour money in trying to compete with the top 20-30 NIL programs.
  18. Respectable showing in this tournament by the team. Disappointing they were not able to get one of the first two games, but the team seems to have some ability and unlike the football team, the coaching staff seems like they have a better idea of what they are doing.
  19. FFS, no he does not DESERVE another year, but knowing this cluster F of an athletic department and HFC he probably WILL get another year. Total Defense: DFL (130 out of 130) Scoring Defense: 128 out of 130 Rushing Defense: DFL (130 out of 130) Red Zone Defense: 106 out of 130 When Ron Mendoza would be considered an upgrade at DC, something has gone horribly wrong.
  20. You might reach out to @EagleRob Earlier in the year he had 4 club tickets available for each game.
  21. I assume Craponi only has access to the free content.
  22. Players that have already used their 1st transfer seem like a less likely candidate to transfer a 2nd time unless they want to lose a year of remaining eligibility. This likelihood seems to only reinforce that we should be focusing more on the transfer portal rather than grooming a high school player to transfer out as soon as they show promise. Hopefully our next coach will make the portal more of a focus.
  23. Wow, total implosion in the 2nd half. Coaching staff being exposed.
  24. My goodness. This DC is supposed to be a defensive back specialist? That was simply a make up call. DBs are not making very basic plays/technique. Seems like coaching is just completely lacking.
