  1. That's what happens when the offense runs some clock and gives them time to rest.
  2. I agree completely. He's shooting about 25% on 3s on about 5 per game. He's lethal around the basket, though. Needs to be looking to get to the paint every time he gets the ball. Either he gets a lay-up, gets fouled and goes to the line, or can kick it out to an open man if the defense collapses. He's gifted off the dribble, just needs to embrace it.
  3. For NET purposes, we neither won nor lost. It actually never happened. What game?
  4. But do you know that's not how it went down? Do you know what his coaches told him? Maybe his teammates and coaches told him to worry about the draft and they were ok with him sitting out? Maybe they just flat out don't care? I haven't seen a single post anywhere on UAB Twitter indicating anybody cares other than fans who placed bets and feared their money was at stake.
  5. The rest of the world does pro sports development without college sports. It's not needed. The reason it exists here is there's too much money involved to let it go by the wayside. I don't view him as selfish because I don't view him as being required to serve the fans like y'all apparently do. Anyways, I won't answer again. There's a difference in thinking here. You're upset a guy has personal responsibilities and got a free trip and goodies at the expense of his school, none of which is your problem. You'll be fine.
  6. The college fans won't pay his bills. None of y'all get it and that's OK. He has to take care of himself and his family first. If he gets hurt, he's likely back home figuring out adult life instead of living out his dreams. The fans will move on just fine. There's a difference between wanting a guy to play for your entertainment and not wanting to play because you've got bills to pay. This is similar to the "shut up and dribble" stuff when athletes talk politics. Pretty sad y'all seem to think these guys owe you anything.
  7. You've missed the point I've made several times. He SHOULD still get to take part in bowl activities, the trip, freebies, and all else. He's part of the reason they got the bowl invite. He should get everything that comes with it. And this whole last second deception, duping out of a free trip BS is likely false. The only people I see calling it that on social media are people mad because they placed bets. From an Alabama-based sports editor: This thread is a bunch of people unrelated to UAB with zero insight on how the coaches, players, and fans feel being mad about a guy making a business decision and using "honor and integrity" as a cover. People on this board voice frustrations every single bowl season over players opting out of bowl games. Then every single spring, people on this board voice frustrations over players transferring because they're not "loyal." What's really happening is fans on this board are college football traditionalists and can't accept the fact that college students can now get paid, transfer, opt out of extra games, and so on. Times are changing. Be happy for kids who are taking a chance at living out their dreams of playing in the NFL. If a guy decides not to play minutes before the game to preserve his health, nobody should care.
  8. Not at all. The player is responsible for himself and his family. The fans aren't going to pay his bills if he gets hurt just because he played the bowl. Most of the coaches are making good money. Why should the players risk getting hurt and their NFL careers for the coaches to get a $10k bonus for winning the bowl?
  9. Kind of my point. If the guy is projected to be drafted to the NFL and make good money, why should he risk that for a bowl game nobody but the fans care about? Dude's got bills to pay. Getting seriously injured may take away draft value therefore affecting his first contract. Yet some are still mad players are sitting for bowl games just because they traveled with the team and got some gifts. Silliness.
  10. Coaches and staff have bonus money, players do not. For guys like McBride who will likely be drafted, their health is the most important thing they have. If they get seriously injured, they may not get drafted or lose draft capital which still affects their first contract. This is literally their money at stake, too. Blows my mind that people are OK with players risking their careers at the next level simply because they want to watch the guy wear their school colors one last time. It's incredibly selfish considering many of these guys are depending on the NFL to change their family dynamics.
  11. Why not? They earned the bowl invite as a team based on the season's accomplishments which they contributed to. Why shouldn't they get the swag that accompanies said season-driven invite? It'd be one thing if it were a bowl just for being part of a certain school or playing in a certain conference regardless of record but that's not the case.
  12. I believe the Frisco Bowl payout is 650k. I don't know if we would have. I don't think he's the best QB and I would have like to see a different QB get opportunities. That said, he was the starting QB for a bowl team. If he had chose to sit out, he should still get the gifts that come with making a bowl game. McBride accounted for 19 TDs. UAB's passing game had 14 total TDs. He should get all the gear that comes with making a bowl game because that's what he helped them do: make a bowl game.
  13. I highly doubt he did this to get a free Caribbean vacay" but frankly, he's a big reason why they get the trip to begin with. Why shouldn't he get to partake when they likely wouldn't even be there without his play throughout the season? The bowl, gifts, and activities is to reward the hard work during the season, not the hard work during the bowl game. It's like not getting a Christmas bonus for meeting yearly quotas because you don't show up to the holiday party.
  14. Ok buddy. If McBride played and tore his ACL, would honor pay his bills?
  15. Yes. No different than a pro player sitting out to rest before the playoffs or to get a break on the second night of a back to back in the NBA. This happens all the time in pro sports and nobody cares.
  16. 2nd round but his leg has never been the same. Went from projected top 5 pick to 2nd round because Jerry Jones believed the Cowboys medical staff could repair the knee. Now he's bounced around the NFL a bit after Jerry paid him.
  17. Sure I can't prove if but I'll allow you to examine the drop off between RB1 and RB2. Not hard to see the offense ran through him. Regarding the other stuff of he wouldn't be getting his NFL payday without college football, if college sports disappeared, there would be other ways for pro teams to scout players for their rosters. This may blow your mind but college sports aren't a thing in the rest of the world the way they are here. Pro teams have academies that develop players. There are also lower level leagues that players come up through. It may not be as apparent in football because it's only played in North America but look at hockey and to a lesser extent basketball to see that players come from overseas having grown up in systems that don't include college sports. The NCAA - NFL/NBA relationship is what causes the "need" for college sports to go pro. They could do without college sports and be just fine but money won't allow it and that's fine but let's not act like the players should be on their knees thanking the NCAA and college teams for the medium to showcase their talents. A local example happening right now is basketball players going to the G-League Ignite for a year before being drafted to the NBA without the "need" for college sports.
  18. I like his plan to get some TX HS coaches on staff. Being a west Texas guy, he's got a legitimate understanding of the value Texans place in relationships. Your word is everything when you get out of the major cities.
  19. Would be incredible to pull out a win in his last game. Believe he's won the only bowl he's been a HC in.
  20. But what does it matter? If it's about the cost of sending him and the gifts he received, they're literally not going without his play. His performance on the field got them to the bowl game and the payouts that accompany the invite. If it's about gameplan, next man up! He's not here next year anyways so it's an opportunity for others on the depth chart to show what they can do for next year. This entire post is literally "old man yelling at clouds." Yelling for no reason other than to yell.
  21. Read above. They made it to this bowl and the school got the payout partially thanks to him. He's accounted for nearly a third of their total offense. They don't make it to this bowl and get the payout without him. And really? A couple thousand dollars in gifts compared to what they've made off his back? They're not donating gifts for charity. They're doing fine. Get drafted and make your money, McBride.
  22. Doesn't matter. If he gets injured, his career is over before it started. If you want to make it about money and cost to go to the Bahamas, the university got $225k for the bowl game. They wouldn't have made it without him. I'm sure they've made more than enough money off his play to cover his trip.
  23. This is so ridiculous. Easy to complain about his actions when you'd never be in a position to do the same. He's likely going to get drafted and live out his dreams while getting paid. If he plays this meaningless bowl and gets hurt, all that goes down the drain. Most of us will never be in the position to lose our careers due to an injury. Give me a break.
  24. Played at UNC and was drafted by the Cowboys. Wonder if this is in the works for him to be tweeting about it.
