  1. Allow me to paint a plausible scenario, especially since JJ is RV's only decent hire on his record. When NT hired RV, he had been an admin in the Southern Miss AD. Isn't it possible that Louisiana native and former Memphis interim head coach, Johnny Jones name came out during that time as a possible future candidate at Southern Miss as James Green continued to hover around .500, but then Southern Miss actually made the NIT in 2001 and so James Green bought himself some more time. RV gets the job at North Texas, needs to hire a new coach, and knew that a more competent AD had been thinking about Alabama assistant, Johnny Jones. RV then hires Johnny Jones and for the next 15 years, some Mean Green fans hold the hire up as a shining beacon for ol' Rick when in actuality sneaky sneaky Ricky actually didn't even have the original idea to hire JJ. Isn't it possible? Especially when one considers all of his other major hires
  2. Just rushing. He currently sits at 1,799 yards rushing. To be fair, he's danced 90% of the time since he got here. I don't think that can explain his complete disappearance in the last 4 games, which is what the OP was wondering, unless the staff decided "4.5 years is enough! No more soup for you". I guess what I'm saying is: the dancing is not a new development and can't be the only reason that the Jimmy Show was scrubbed. For anyone interested, here's a link to his stats: http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/515139/antoinne-jimmerson In the fall of 2011, most of us would've been over the moon if Johnathan Gray had committed to North Texas. It's interesting when comparing the numbers of Jimmerson and Gray how similar their college career arc is. In fact, Jimmerson actually averages .03 ypc more than Gray does. The fate of Gray just goes to show what injuries, dancing, and finding yourself in the wrong situation can do to one's potential NFL prospects. Jimmerson career stats: 393 carries; 1,799 yards; 18 TDs 30 catches; 376 yard; 5 TDs (12 catches; 205 yards; 3 TD's in his RS freshman year - 2012)
  3. Only has 5 rushing yards in the last 4 games. With a losing season confirmed, there has been a warranted youth movement, but I feel for this young man who has put a lot into this program for 5 years to just completely get shut down. Before the season started, I thought he was a shoe-in to join the 2,000-yard career club; however, with only 4 games remaining and 201 yards to go, I have my doubts. I'd love for us to keep that DeSoto pipeline open, ya know? Has he been injured or something else? Or is this just a case of going a different way?
  4. TRS is one of the reason's Rick won't resign
  5. School is somewhere in Florida, I think. They have regularly been the FCS cupcake for FSU, Miami, Florida, the F_U twins, etc so that's what I'm basing this on. Could be way off.. School colors are Maroon and Yellow like the Fairfield Eagles. Mascot is the Tigers? maybe Bobcats (for alliteration)? FBSchedules used to have us playing Liberty in 2016, Lamar 2017, Incarnate Word 2018, Abilene Christian 2019. I think Brett published that info in the early spring after we discussed the presence of the future schedules existence with Ryan Munthe on a thread here.
  6. We are no longer the undisputed champ as the Mean Green fall to #4 on ESPN's poll. According to their FPI numbers, the remaining four winless teams' chances of losing out: Kansas 85% UCF 45% North Texas 32% New Mexico St 29% According to CBS, we will be hosting the Game of the Week vs UTSA. With no further adieu: CBS Bottom 25: North Texas #1 ESPN Bottom 10: North Texas #4
  7. RV is going to have a pretty nice retirement package from the state of Texas. Maybe hitting 15 years in April will spring some next level bonuses that we don't know about? I meant to post this earlier: Bill Byrne was willing to go down with his coach, Mike Sherman, because he didn't agree with the decision to let him go. RV, on the other hand, has shown a penchant for throwing others in front of the bus if he believes it will save his own skin. Is that really the type of leader you'd like to have? I have spoken to dozens of former athletes over the last decade and most will tell you what they think of RV...and for the most part it ain't glowing. I had secretly been holding out hope for several years now that a successful businessman like fly would one day realize he was being hoodwinked, but his recent posts have convinced me that this necessary move of relieving RV will not be done by the big money donors.

  9. Texas A&M fired Mike Sherman and hired Kevin Sumlin 9 days later. According to many insiders, Bill Byrne did not lead the committee who vetted and signed Sumlin. The following spring, Bill Byrne was also shown the door, AND Bill Byrne is a significantly better AD than RV; his facilities built, hiring, and the Olympic sports performances under his watch dwarf RV's. If North Texas is taking athletic seriously, then RV should have no say whatsoever in the hiring of our next football or basketball coach, and he should be packing his bags to ride off into the sunset. If you truly want what's best for this university, then this underperforming, in-over-his-head athletic director is not the answer. RV was a great Sun Belt athletic director, but guess what? We're not in the Sun Belt anymore. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7304629/texas-aggies-fire-football-coach-mike-sherman http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7337943/houston-cougar-kevin-sumlin-leaving-texas-aggies http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/7905201/texas-aggies-athletic-director-bill-byrne-retires http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/8112716/south-carolina-gamecocks-eric-hyman-texas-aggies-athletic-director
  10. RV's arrogance is allowing him to destroy the very foundation of all the good things he accomplished. He didn't hang it up and ride off into the sunset when he should've; he stayed in the saddle too long...and our athletic department is getting passed by. If he actually cared about UNT, he would do the right thing and let us hire some new blood.
  11. I wonder if @bstnsportsfan3 has changed his mind about RV not being the problem. Gotta love the 6 year bumps
  12. I was just coming on here to suggest Quoner add this to the card
  13. @EagleMBA, have you been forced to laugh just to keep from weeping?
  14. Since Smiley is a Baylor grad, I am now on board the Smiley train - #TeamSmiley. I wrote a post last year scratching at the surface of North Texas' coaching history; I came to the conclusion that our next hire needs to be either a North Texas or Baylor alum. You can read that post here. For those who are afraid to click the word "here": http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/topic/101171-coaching-history/#comment-879088 #TeamSmiley #BradforUNT
  15. We all knew it was coming, but ESPN and CBS made it official: North Texas is #1 in both the Bottom 10 and the Bottom 25. Long live King RV! Edit: I didn't see oldguy's thread when I posted this . Harry, thank you for deleting thread and not banning user.
  16. if RV doesn't get fired, I will take a crap in my hand and slap him in the face with it, and I will film it for all to see
  17. the lone win being Iowa's 10-6 decision over Wisconsin. but hey! at least Iowa's ranked #22...bet the Mac's are happy
  18. I think your order is pretty much right. I think I'd rank em in order of getting fired, from most likely to least likely as: O'Leary Martin McCarney Bohl Beaty
  19. We're holding steady and are still ranked 2nd in the country here! Kudos, Coach Mac - to top it off, you said the fewest words of the 13 CUSA coaches in the weekly press conference for the 5th week in a row. #itsallajoke The blurb:
  20. #2 in CBS' Bottom 25 - behind Kansas, who is almost guaranteed to go 0-12. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/25321401/the-bottom-25----week-4-you-can-go-home-again-virginia - new rankings to come out tomorrow
  21. North Texas 30 Portland 27 as bad as UTEP looks without A Jones, this might actually be our 2nd best chance at a win. I wonder who will be the first person to point out to Mac that he can't say "we've never had a losing record at Apogee as long as I've been here" ?
