  1. glad he plays for the good guys. That dude is next level
  2. I'm pretty sure it means play a 13th (conference championship or bowl game). It's probably better than #Hit6
  3. I listed this as an upset special in my preseason 6-6 record prediction. So far I got SMU wrong and Rice right so I'm already a game under...looking at being two games under this time next week. I still think that Coach Mac has been extra amped and has been watching extra film for at least 10 months getting ready to match-up with his alma mater and rival, Kirk Ferentz. Both teams will probably stick to the ground; this game could be over in 2 hours, 15 minutes. Dan McCarney average score vs Kirk Ferentz is 20-18; he is 5-3 in 8 match-ups. We are being outscored 18.5 to 34.5 this year (by SMU and Rice). Iowa has outscored their opponents (Illinois State, Iowa State, and Pittsburgh) 29.7-18.3 on the way to 3-0. There should be 65k+ in the stadium. With no further ado, Iowa 31, North Texas 16 - 3 Trevor Moore FG's and a late, garbage time TD For Iowa message board predictions: http://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/north-texas-iowa-prediction-thread.39479/
  4. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/iowa/football/2015/09/21/dan-mccarney-returns-kinnick-stadium-underdog/72575842/ Dan McCarney has brought his football team to Kinnick Stadium facing long odds before. In 1998, Iowa State was a 28-point underdog and expected to lose a 16th straight game in the series with Iowa. McCarney's Cyclones pulled off the upset, 27-9, a game that turned a one-sided sleeper of a series into a rivalry again. McCarney, now in his fifth season as the head coach at North Texas, returns to Kinnick Stadium as a 26-point underdog Saturday.
  5. football program recognition is not a listed benefit of being in the Spiriki category http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/ntex/sports/mg-club/auto_pdf/2014-15/misc_non_event/BenefitsChartRevised.pdf
  6. My seats and unassigned parking space will go unused for the next four games. I already dropped basketball tickets two years ago. RV's time has passed. He's already outstayed his usefulness by at least three years. He should exit stage left and let the next guy come in to take us to the next level before he, RV, destroys the very foundation he helped build. If he were so great, wouldn't some other school have come in to hire him away by now?
  7. I realize this is a hypothetical, but even in a hypothetical I don't want Deloss Dodds...have you seen what kind of mess he left UT in? His hubris and lack of foresight knew no bounds No to RV, and no to Dodds
  8. No doubt the ol' Pirate, Mike Leach, wouldn't mind making a trip to Denton. That's if he's still in Pullman in 5 years... http://www.fbschedules.com/2015/09/washington-state-central-michigan-schedule-2019-2021-football-series/ and remember, up until a couple of months ago we still had room on our schedules in 2019 & 2021 to make this kind of deal ourselves
  9. I'm thoroughly impressed that someone read that entire thing AND noticed the name Corey Chavous twice. It looks like he has two games on Thursday and another onSaturday, so it's possible that he's on the call for for two this weekend, but highly doubtful
  10. http://www.abqjournal.com/632557/sports/aggie-football-homes-to-sell-out-sept-12-home-opener.html "NMSU believes the school will match last year’s 5,326 season ticket sales." How come New Mexico State releases their season ticket sales #, but we don't? I feel like we're one of only 10 schools in FBS that doesn't release both season ticket #'s and booster club #'s (MGC). Capacity of their stadium is roughly the same as ours, and they have significantly fewer students in Las Cruces than we do in Denton. Come on RV and crew - get your acts together!
  11. I will not be making the trip to Iowa. I will, however, be in Volunteer State from Nov 12-22 and have stops/tickets for the Tennessee game in Knoxville and the Middle Tennessee game in Murfreesboro.
  12. Mean Green Soccer wins the Las Vegas Invitational this weekend to start the 2015 season 2-0. 8/21 - North Texas 2, Southern Utah 1 8/23 - North Texas 1, UNLV 0 next game is 8/28 vs Incarnate Word in San Antonio and the home opener is Sunday, 8/30, vs the Kansas Jayhawks
  13. interesting that queen throws out 3-9 and gets multiple neg reps, but when Green P1, UNT 90, and Caribbean Green all suggest 3-9 they get 4 up votes. Methinks some people like the negative message just not the messenger
  14. @Army of Dad That rule was changed starting with the 2010 season. Hence the fact that RV has begun feasting on such cupcakes on an annual basis. The NCAA allows one victory per season over an FCS (I-AA) team to count toward an FBS team's bowl eligibility page 316, here: http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/D111.pdf 90% is 56-57 scholarships. The only conferences that don't meet this criteria are the Ivy League, Patriot League, and Pioneer league; all of these FCS (1-AA) conferences do not offer football scholarships at all - like Division III.
  15. First off, I'm tired of only have 5 home games in one year. I had really hoped that Kram's faith in RV was justified and that he was going to surprise us all with a *gasp* 7 game home schedule in 2019 AND no body bag games. As is usually the case with our AD, that was way too much to hope for. In the last 8 years we have played two away games at P5 schools in the same season - 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2015. Now I realize that some of those away games were part of a home and home (Indiana, Kansas State), but in three of those four seasons, we wound up with only 5 home games and in the last two instances the only OOC home contest was an FCS (1-AA): Texas Southern and Portland State. If you're going to short change the paying customers with only 5 home games, then it's only right to reward us with a rare 7 game home schedule at least once a decade. If you can play two money games in one season, then doesn't it follow that you can have one year without any? 2019 was the perfect opportunity to start a new home and home with the home end portion either landing in 2019 or 2020. If the home game were in 2019 then bam! 7 game home schedule. If RV had decided to play away in 2019, then he could have bought another FCS opponent in 2020 and voila! there's our 7 home game miracle. For those who are afraid we'll lose to a P5 at home, isn't Coach Mac always touting his home record in Apogee? and isn't he 1-0 against P5's here? I'd much rather see a home win over a Kansas, Iowa State, Syracuse, Colorado, Washington State, Purdue, or Virginia than a road loss to an SEC team. If it's about the money, then maybe one of our big money donors can write a check to the AD specifically to underwrite a bodybag game one year. It shouldn't be that much - just the difference between whatever we would've gotten paid minus what we made from the gate receipts/concessions for an additional home game - probably way less than half a million as we are getting paid $900,00 to go to Iowa this year and were paid $875,000 by Texas last year. Didn't LSU only pay us $500k in 2012? P.S. does anyone know how much Wisconsin is paying us? I see LaTech just got $1.1 million for going to Texas in 2019 and another $1.1 million for Clemson in 2020. Surely the great negotiator, RV, got us at least that much, right?
  16. in the Coaches Preseason Poll http://sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/football/polls/coaches-poll I wonder what Coach Mac's ballot looked like, since he's a voter in this poll
  17. You're not the first to make the UNT-SJSU comparison. untjim1995 has been telling us this for years April 22, 2013: http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/topic/82928-ulms-berry-shocked-and-surprised-at-ad-resignation/#comment-721534 March 16, 2015: http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/topic/103341-college-ad-business-model/#comment-903248 For the record, I agree. There seems to be no better comparison for our doppleganger than the Spartans.
  18. We do still have an opening in 2019, however that slot is probably being reserved for the annual bodybag game. Unless RV is planning on doing something really crazy like gifting us a 7 game home schedule. I can dream, right?
  19. After reading the Knoxville News and Go Vols Extra article posted by Harry, I submit my unprofessional ranking of our 2015 schedule. Here's a look at those challenges in order of difficulty (from most difficult to least difficult): @ Tennessee: better depth, better athletes, SEC team - has Mac every beat one of those on the road @ Marshall: road game, hard to win in Huntington for a program that rarely wins on the road @ Louisiana Tech: road game, could easily flip LT with Marshall but Huntington is farther away than Ruston Western Kentucky: probably a better team than the two directly above, but Apogee on a Thursday night gives us a better puncher's chance @ MUTS: will we have anything left in the tank after trips to Ruston and Knoxville the previous two weeks? Rice: I have the Owls penciled in as the West Division champs @ Iowa: as discussed before, I think going to his hometown will fire Mac up even more to be extra prepared. That and his winning record vs Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes. A North Texas win might finally be the nudge that pushes Ferentz out the door in Iowa. UTEP: home game. There's a strong chance that the team will be 2-2 at Apogee going into this game; we all know how much Mac loves (and we appreciate) never having had a losing record in the stadium. @ Southern Miss: the Miners are a step above USM talent-wise. This is the most winnable conference road game @ SMU: season opener, rivalry game. If we don't win this, 2015 will be a long season UTSA: Realistically, I should probably switch the ponies and runners, but on paper taking in the home field factor and conference contest among others - UTSA should be slightly less difficult Portland State: this game is homecoming and bought & paid for for a reason I would love to see some other rankings. I feel super confident that Tennessee is definitely the most difficult and Portland State is the least difficult, but am amenable in the middle
  20. 2015 P5's at a G5 Week 1: Oklahoma State at Central Michigan Duke at Tulane Penn State at Temple Washington at Boise State Purdue at Marshall Mississippi State at Southern Miss Week 2: Missouri at Arkansas State Minnesota at Colorado State UCLA at UNLV Arizona at Nevada Kansas State at UTSA Pitt at Akron Miami at FAU Week 3: Utah at Fresno State Iowa State at Toledo North Carolina State at Old Dominion Wake Forest at Army Week 4: Virginia Tech at East Carolina Week 5: Miami at Cincinnati Why not us? Weren't we promised these type of games?
  21. Although the calendar turns a page to July today, we are still over 2 months away from kicking off the 2015 season. A bit early perhaps but maybe it's time for some season win-loss record predictions in the midst of these dog days of summer... With green-tinted goggles on and a pitcher of green kool-aid at my side: IDLE - aren't we undefeated against "bye", "open", and "idle"? I'm no fan of starting the season off without football, but at least our unblemished record against this foe will stay intact at SMU - W . Mac gets an extra week to get our boys up for our cross-plex rival Rice - L . The biggest improvement in a team can be seen between the first and second game. I don't think we improve enough, plus I've got Rice penciled in as the 2015 CUSA champs at Iowa - W. Coach Mac is, I believe, 7-5 vs Iowa and 6-2 vs. Kirk Ferentz. He'll be fired up for this game and will have an effective game plan ready for his return to Iowa City. at Southern Miss - L. riding the high of our upset victory the week before, the Golden Eagles catch us with our pants down. If we do lose to Iowa, I think we win vs. Southern Miss Portland State - W. Coach Mac is 11-0 all-time vs. 1-AA/FCS opponents, including 2-0 at North Texas. Western Kentucky - W. We're 2-1 in weeknight game in Apogee. Hoping Louisiana Tech was an aberration last year at Marshall - L. We have an extra couple of days to prepare, but as the Big 12 teams have been finding out, it's hard to fly to West Virginia and win a road game. UTSA - W. I think Coach Mac finally prioritizes this as a rivalry game (see his record in such contests) - that loss in '13 cost us a shot at the conference title. at Louisiana Tech - L. I want to believe, and I'm sure I'll be there, but I can't bring myself to call this a win. at Tennessee - L. least likely win on the schedule, but maybe the magic of long ago will return... at Middle Tenn - L. We're 4-2 in Murfreesboro so I hope I'm wrong. UTEP - W. Hopefully we're a team that's improved over the course of the season and we don't check it in after three straight losses; couple that with potential bowl eligibility on the line, and I got the green going 4-1 in Apogee in the fall. With these two coaching staffs, it will be an old school, throwback game. 2015 prediction: 6-6 bonus note: what a tame July 1st we had after all the realignment and moves of the last few years. I think the only official realignment moves that officially happened today was Navy joining the AAC as a football only member. The only other football related moves for 2015 both happen in CUSA with Charlotte's football team joining the East and UAB not fielding a team
  22. A couple of thoughts: 1. For the person who thought being a public school was a scholarship advantage. Actually, it appears that under the current rules private schools have an advantage due to being able to provide more scholarship money. See TCU, Vanderbilt, Miami in CWS. See Rice, DBU as well. Additionally, LSU has a unique advantage because te state of Louisiana provides free tuition to Louisiana kids that maintain a 3.0 in hs. They're really able to stretch those 11.7 scholarships. 2. With the current legislation and new rules for the P5, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see baseball scholarships increased to 20-25 per team. If this happens, the parity talked about in this thread will begin to erode an then disappear
  23. That was my assumption as well. In 2014, all B1G and all SEC home games were televised. We will be on the Big 10 network and the SEC network, at the very least, so both of these games will be televised. As of right now, the American has not announced their TV lineup for week 2 and the conference only has THREE home games that weekend so I expect that we'll be one of their TV slots; I know I'm biased, but I think ours is the most attractive. Nevertheless, 80% of AAC home games were televised in 2014. AAC home games week of 9/12: - North Texas @ SMU - Temple @ Cincy - Army @ UConn The B1G only announced the TV schedule for the first three weekends. We might not find out our TV slot for that game until September, but I bet it's the Big Ten Network at like 11am or 2:30pm. The SEC probably won't announce the November games TV until October, but again my guess is SEC Network. The SEC has a pretty salty slate that day (see below). Two games will be picked up on CBS (11 and 2:30), two will be picked up by ESPN, and one is scheduled to be picked up by ESPN2. That leaves 4 to be picked up the SECN or ESPN3. conference games: Georgia @ Auburn Arkansas @ LSU Alabama @ Mississippi State Florida @ South Carolina Kentucky @ Vanderbilt ooc: North Texas @ Tennessee Western Carolina @ Texas A&M BYU v Missouri (Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City) It looks like our only non-televised games will be Southern Miss and Portland State, but didn't TXA21 pick up both Texas Southern and Nicholls State? Either way, I'm hoping that means a nice 6pm kickoff for Portland State. After our 9-4 season, we had all 12 home games televised last year. I think our lack of coverage this upcoming season has more to do with that 4-8 record in 2014 and the fact that, per the CUSA board on csnbbs, our home games were some of the least viewed/lowest ratings in the whole conference last season.
  24. oldguy, the article is referring to the New Mexico State Aggies when it says a team will host just 5 games. the Texas A&M version plays 7 home games and 2 neutral site games, as pointed out be Cerebus. Texas A&M 2015 schedule New Mexico State 2015 schedule
