  1. As I understand it the replay officials have more than one camera so that they can see the play from different angles and are in better position to make the right call. What may appear to happen on the stadium camera may look different when viewed from an opposite side. We pay for the extra officials and cameras so we should allow technology and people to do their jobs. The odds are that we will get better results and less controversy without the replays being shown.
  2. I flat do not understand the penis envy for SMU. They are counting tickets sold; not butts in seats. Until the NCAA puts some teeth in the actual attendance by certifying counters there won't ever be a reasonably accurate count. They don't even enforce their own rules on the mandatory 15.000 necessary to stay in the FBS. Besides, we don't have a lot of room to talk about attendance after our last home game. Embarrassing. I guess our next thing to say is that their wins are fictitious. I'm pretty sure that UCF doesn't think that they are a joke.
  3. When Green P1's responses go to the second sentence you know that it's going to be good.
  4. Agree with you about the coaching but the recruiting was on par with both stAte and Louisana according to Rivals.
  5. Maybe, but Texas Hoops certainly didn't think so. It was one of the first things mentioned in their evaluation that was a factor in his high ranking last year.
  6. If you mean Jordan Williams then the answer is yes. Chris Jones and Walton also have a good touch. Although he may not get to play, Tyler Hall can also shoot threes.
  7. It looks like Chico has happened to Chico's offense. How many ways can you say unimaginative?
  8. You may be right but Osborn has a QB rating of 144+. I'd like to see if he can do it against first units and I think that he should at least be given the chance. After all, he didn't have first team players to work with usually. If he has a game or two and can't get it done then go with McNulty. If McNulty can't get it done then go ahead and burn Jones' redshirt and at least see what he looks like under fire. We need to find out who can play and we need to do it now.
  9. There's plenty to say but not much of it is good. What's disappointing to me is the play-calling. We are so predictable on first down. We never throw on first and we usually run Dunbar up the middle. We seem to have second and third and long constantly. We either don't have a quarterback or we don't have receivers...or both. This offense is offensive. I really thought that Canales would do a much better job.
  10. I believe that it's a real plus for us now that SMU is going to the Big East. That leaves no one in either CUSA or the MWC with a team in the DFW market. Remember, this merger/alliance is for football only. CUSA will have nine teams for their other sports and the Mountain West only seven. Our basketball program should help our cause in either conference. The Sun Belt certainly doesn't need to merge with the WAC. They could, however, pick a couple of WAC teams for football only since the WAC won't have enough football-playing teams for conference competition.
  11. I pass. If everyone drank responsibly and there were no sales to underage students then I'd be for it but you and I know that there will be legally drunk consumers running up and down the highways. Especially while we're losing. Sometimes I'd like to drown my sorrows. It's not like there is no beer consumed on game day. Tailgaters who bring their own, and beer sales at the Alumni Pavilion and the club/suite level loosen up the fans. There's nothing worse than to be sober sitting in the midst of a bunch of drunks. Personally, I like it the way it is.
  12. I seems certain to me. CUSA will need to replace three teams and the Mountain West needs to add four teams if Boise and Air Force go to the Big East. That would only leave seven for basketball and the other sports. Surely with seven teams going to CUSA and the MWC with our market, size, facilities, increased budget, location and administrative commitment we'll at least get a long look. Also, remember that the Big Twelve is talking of adding two (three if Missouri bolts) which could affect CUSA and other conferences.
  13. I liked the article and thought that it pretty well laid the cards on the table. Perhaps a little more mention that attendance could be a factor in realignment but otherwise the writer made good points. Student attendance is sorely needed if NT is to advance their cause and schedule teams that are familiar to the student body and Denton townspeople. Student support was there in the opener and I thought that we looked like a first-class university. It waned a little in the second game against a name opponent and I began to worry. Last week was pathetic. The band alone took about a third of the space of the students that were present. Two thousand non-band students in attendance would be a generous figure. That has to be the lowest percentage of students attending than any major university in Texas. I wish that I had the answer for what can be done to instill school spirit but NT Daily articles such as this can't hurt. It's one of the steps and I hope that it continues.
  14. If they can't be unified then kiss the Big East (as a football conference) goodbye. It may take the rejection of UConn, Rutgers, West Virginia and Louisville by other conferences to unify the remaining six. If that should happen then the current members will be forced to band together with an agreement not to leave for x number of years or they won't be able to get the service academies and maybe even UCF, Temple, or East Carolina to join...to say nothing of SMU and Houston.
  15. Sorry, Jim. I changed it because I'm not sure that we are rivals since we seem to lose every time.
  16. UTSA won't be a FBS member for another two years. If this were 2014 then I might not rule them out either.
  17. Exactly. We need FBS teams that will attract fans; both our own and opponents. We already have six future games with SMU scheduled beginning in 2014 but I believe only one with Tulsa and Houston. TCU won't play us but I believe that Rice and UTEP might. I'd like to see another series with Kansas State. Southern Miss should be a decent draw for us. And, by all means, Texas State. They are a transitional FBS team this year. I'd like to see us play any Big 12 team that would give us at least a two for one. Butts in seats are our #1 priority. Regional games give us our best chance.
  18. This was such a great, positive, upbeat article that I hate to inject an iota of negativity into the comments but one part of the story rankled me. Certainly not Donna Fielder's fault; it's what she was taught. She learned the eagle claw as a two-fingered/thumb sign. I'm still trying to figure who sabotaged our hand signal. The original sign was THREE fingers curled with only the pinkie pressed as close to the hand as possible. How many have ever seen an eagle with only three talons? It doesn't exist and neither should this bastardized version. Other than that, Donna Fielder's article was a breath of fresh air and I wish that every person in Denton and Denton County would read it.
  19. Yep, without Outlaw the walk-on from Killeen is our best receiver.
  20. The attendance was absolutely the worst part of the evening. I do believe that that was the actual count and did not include season tickets. If this is our fan base then we can forget about another conference. Where were the students? While we need many more Denton townspeople to embrace this program we need our students to lead the way. The two sections that did attend were magnificent but there needed to be at least four times that number. Let me say one positive about student attendance...the band. The band was as lively as I've ever seen them and the sound was great. Tremendous performance. Their pregame concerts also were appreciated.
  21. I've seen Craig Thompson quoted that he would like the easternmost boundary of the MWC to be Texas. I believe that the DFW market would give him a better bargaining chip for his TV contract. The Mountain West will be the stronger conference. A little more prestige but much harder to win.
  22. The only schools that I've heard about CUSA needing more eastern teams were East Carolina, Marshall and UCF. Well, ECU and Central Florida will now be gone so the easternmost team (except for Marshall) is UAB. There are no eastern teams left so the conference will have to move west. The last expansion team was UTEP, a Texas team 600 miles from its nearest conference rival. I've never heard that CUSA would not take another Texas team...at least I've not seen it in print. Someone from the east could have said it but how valid is that? Also, North Texas, even with its crummy facilities and attendance was the other consideration. No disrespect meant for our conference mates but the teams from CUSA or the MWC would outdraw SBC teams. I wish that we had a couple of years of success but we have to go with what we have. Other than a poor record in football and women's basketball over the last six years, the pieces of the puzzle are in place. Both deficiencies should be corrected soon.
  23. Especially as a Rose Bowl champion TCU deserves to be invited to the Big 12. I can see BYU as a possible invitee also but if the Big 12 is smart then I believe that they should invite Houston. They lose presence big-time in the Houston market when A&M leaves. The Big East should now stick to teams in or near their footprint which basically means the six that they have now plus East Carolina, UCF, Army, Navy, Temple and the like. If SMU keeps us out of CUSA (which I don't think that they will do) then so be it. The MWC still needs a couple more teams and they covet the DFW market. Either way, I like our chances IF we can average more than 20,000 this year. So guys, make every effort to attend each home game.
