  1. I think that I've asked this before, but is James Battle in any way related to Ron Battle who played for North Texas in 77, 78 and 80? Ron Battle also played one year for the Rams in 1981.
  2. The Star-Telegram article said that he was going to SFA.
  3. Friendships are like tea bags. You don't know really know how strong they are until you're both immersed in hot water.
  4. He was offered a "ship" at Rice? Hmmmm, I'm just guessing here, but I don't think we should have any eligibility concerns with this young man.
  5. He spent all spring at the RB position. And as I recall, he did a good job and got off several good runs. I don't remember if they ever threw the ball to him or not during spring practice.
  6. .....I was thinking that they needed more "personal time" (make that vigorous personal time) with thier wives/girlfriends and/or significant others.
  7. AT, I have the greatest respect for people who struggle through hard times (and I mean REALLY hard times!) and never waiver in their relationship commitments. You mentioned that some Doctors will look at this situation, and because they are clueless about what to do, they will say that the patient has psychological problems. Just as may times (or actually, more times) a less-than-committed spouse will do the same thing. It would be their excuse to bail out. Your situation is very symbolic to the "fan commitment" situation that North Texas has struggled with for decades. For years (actually decades) I've heard people make comments like "yeah, I went to North Texas but I'm not going to attend their games until they start winning some big games on a regular basis, or be accepted in the B-12 or CUSA"etc etc........or whatever. Many times when I hear this I'm thinking in my mind "well, God help your spouse if she ever did something like, put on a little weight, got a wrinkle or so, or came down with a long term illness". I don't pray much, but I'll certainly say one for your wife.....and you as well. I had a professor at North Texas once tell our class that North Texas' Latin motto translates to roughly "Keep on, Keep'in on". AT, I think you are the embodiment of that motto. Take care
  8. Jim, if you didn't "jump off the top of Fouts field" when we lost to FIU last year......AT HOME...then I seriously doubt you would if we were to lose to Tulsa and/or LaTech. I'm rather ambivalent about Emmitt's scenario. It's a real test of how credible North Texas has become in the eyes of the football world, as well as a test of RV's selling/negotiating abilities. I think I might go for it.
  9. I sorta wish we had the same promotional people that we did back in 1988 when they helped sell out Fouts field for the first time in it's history........as a 1-AA school.
  10. You know, I would think that by it's nature, that "compression gear" would have a very limited customer base. Or at least it should.
  11. Something like this would be a good money making project for the Talons. Since they are a sanctioned University spirit organization, and they are NON-PROFIT, they don't have to mess with the licensing stuff. Rick and I know someone who could do the shirts, and I think that some organizations on campus have used a t-shirt shop in Denton. The most difficult part of it is getting the art-work done......and oh yeah,...finding some responsible students to see the project through. Rick did most of the "EYES OF NORTH TEXAS" art work on his computer. The people that printed the shirts only touched it up a little.
  12. Harry, I'm with Grey on this. Jamario is very special and so is what he accomplish last year. But in order to keep people from dismissing his accomplishments as a "flash in the pan", we need to put Patrick right up there with him to show that North Texas has got something really special going on.
  13. When would it have been that USM wanted to be like UNT? The 70's, when we had Hayden? (Back before they expanded Roberts Stadium). RV wasn't there then. So, I don't know where you got that nonsense from...... BTW...the Guiness Book of World Records just called. You're two inane posts away from a new record. You'll have it by 6:15.
  14. A white clock with green neon around the rim. That would be cool.
  15. I've been meaning to ask. Does anyone know how much cooler (temperature-wise) this new surface will be than the old surface? I've heard some absolutely alarming reports about the surface temperature early in the season on that old surface. Anyone?
  16. According to my source, Nicolas Emfinger (#65) is no longer with the team.
  17. Well, having uttered that statement, you have now just (as the Greeks might have said) "tempted the Gods" and the chances of rain in August will now probably increase. .... Remember, the long range forcast is for a more active hurricane season this year.
  18. Fresno and Hawaii would be more appealing than what we have now? Let me remind you (and everyone else for that matter for the 157th time) that our FIRST Fouts Field sell-out was as a 1-AA team, and our opponent was SFA! Odus Mitchell never did that, Rod Rust never did that, Hayden Fry never did that, and Jerry Moore never did that. IMHO we achieved that (the first Fouts sell-out in the school's history) by having an entertaining team to watch, and we had people working in promotions who were passionate about the North Texas athletic program. It also didn't hurt anything that we had a very "noticable" OCC win, and a very close call against two SWC opponents prior to our game with SFA. Until we have some OCC wins, and until we get some competent promotions going, we are always going to struggle with our attendance....regardless of which league we are in.
  19. Believe me,.. if Ieans had ANY ability as a receiver, they would have put him out there his freshman year.
  20. So, what our AD should be doing is registering for Freshman Classes?
  21. Well, I'll only respond to the last question. Near as I could tell from the spring practices, the third stringer was Kellen Hayes (Hanes?). The three battling for the job were Kellen, Jonathan Ieans and Scott Wissell. Of the three, I thought that Wissell was the best, and that Ieans was a total waste of "rep" time......not to mention being a total waste of a "ship".
  22. I just purchased two of these Jerseys this morning. They are VERY NICE. The store manager advised me that they had another order of jerseys coming in at the end of this week. READ CAREFULLY. The order coming in is a large order of VARIOUS JERSEYS, some of which will be the Joe Greene jerseys. So I don't know how many they will actually have when the order comes in. The smallest size is 2X and the largest size is 5X. The jerseys run a little bit small. I bought a 3X and it fits me like a 2X. They had five left on the rack this morning. The name of the store is SEL Sportswear. Their phone # is (214) 366-9377. Their fax # is (214) 366-9370.
  23. Yeah, that's what I said about our game with Texas.........before they gave the ball to Benson on the first play.
  24. Well, variations in shades or not, any time there is a televised game at Memorial stadium, the crowd shots are ALWAYS a SEA OF ORANGE.......burnt or otherwise. The same goes for crowd shots at OU games. Just once, I'd like to see a crowd shot at a North Texas game and KNOW that CLEARLY (because of a sea of green) it's a North Texas game. Usually our crowd shots are, at best, a mixed bag........that could have (to the casual observer) been taken at a concert or something.
