  1. I hope that someone can come on and "spin" Dickey's comments in a more positive way. But I believe that what I heard Dickey say in his post game comments was that after the Baylor game "the fans (as usual ) cussed us, but we circled the wagons". Circled the wagons against who? The SBC? The World? Or was he talking about the North Texas fans? Who by the way (up to that point in the season) expect a better effort , both from the team and the coaching staff? I'm getting real tired of this "us-against-the-fans-bunker mentality". Someone tell me I'm wrong about this (and make a credible presentationi).
  2. As a North Texas graduate, I've long ago embraced "insane" However, since your are probably correct about that, it makes the OCC wins issue even more imperative.
  3. In light of our OCC record the last three years. Does it really matter?
  4. Probably, but don't be too sure about that. Our season always gets better when start playing SB teams. I stick by my earlier comment. As long as we have the same seasons (no or few OCC wins and only SB wins) we are stuck in "neutral".
  5. Let's see, what conference are all of those "down turn" programs in? Troy is in our league, and they have beaten us (remember 01?). They are moving forward with facilities and by beating Missouri at home (which was ranked at that time) they are giving their doners encouragement that they will continue to "move up". How much encouragement has Dickey given any potential doners, that their investment will pay off in a "prime time" win like Troy? Getting out-coached and out-played at home by a provisional D-1 Florida team that had spent as much time traveling the week before as they had practicing, is not the way to do it.
  6. As long as Dickey is satisfied with only winning the conference every year, our "Buick" will be stuck in "neutral". Meanwhile, teams like FAU and FIU will pass us by. Just like Marshall, UAB, Troy, Central Florida, and South Florida have done. Lots of things happened to contribute to the team being "distracted", but it's no excuse for getting hammered 65-0. But the loss to FAU was the most frustrating to me. We clearly got out coached in that game. And (once again) we got a black eye from the casual fan's point of view.
  7. I like Bill Maher's comment about Fox. "If that "NEWS" network leaned any furthur to the right, it would throw the world off it's axis". This thread is teetering precariously on the edge of being "political".
  8. Bashing the school of music? Please submit a quote box that shows music school bashing.
  9. Understand it to a certain extent? What's so hard to understand about showing loyalty to a school that bestowed a degree on you? It's true that North Texas wasn't on National TV anytime during the 80's (or the 90's for that matter). They were, however, on regional TV (ABC) in 1983, when they played for the Southland Conf. championship. Rationalizing that you weren't totally loyal to your "Alma Mater" because she wasn't on National TV, is the same as telling your long time girlfriend that you won't marry her because she never appeared in any beauty pageants. Don't think I'm just picking on you. There are MANY (too numerous to count) North Texas graduates from TEXAS that try and use the same rationalization. By the way. If you studied music, what was wrong with CU's school of music? I believe that Glenn Miller found it satisfactory enough to attend there.
  10. Folks, I would have reacted to BuffaloBob the same way the week before last years NO bowl game. His "typo" of "mater" just happened to fall directly onto a hot button issue of mine. That "issue" is people who go to North Texas, accept a degree from their "Alma Mater"(which means Fostering or Nurturing Mother) and then going around being ashamed of their "mother" who (educationally) "fostered" and "nurtured" them. If I moved to another state, I would proudly hang my degree on the wall. I would wish the local team well in their season (unless they were playing my "Alma Mater") but I would proudly declare where my true loyalties were. I have to believe that even the most "fanatic" supporters of other schools would have to respect my "position", even if they didn't think much of my school (which I wouldn't care if they did). If GreenTiger wants to "adopt" North Texas, then that's fine with me. But I would hope that he continues to contribute an equal or greater amount to his "Alma Mater". And I would hope that he never hid the fact that he attended another school,........or was ever ashamed of it........like too many of OUR graduates do. I will NEVER "lighten-up" when people come to this board and (essentially) rub our noses in the fact that they came to North Texas, got their degree from here, but are loyal to some other "big time" program. When I was a kid, my favorite team was UT. When I signed up for my first class at North Texas, UT became "that Texas team that I occasionally watched on TV and only pulled for when they played OU........or A$M......or $MU...etc." I'm sorry if I sounded ungracious (which I said in my original post), but this is a real "hot button" issue with me.
  11. Alma Meter? Is that what a commuter calls his/her school? If you're such a big-time CU fan, why the hell didn't you go to school there? In case you don't know it, CU has more than enough fans. And they would never notice it if you stopped being a fan. North Texas might notice however. Sorry to sound ungracious, but North Texas graduates who are "big-time fans" of other schools really burn me up.
  12. Lets see, now where did I put that crucifix and holy water........
  13. Wal-Mart can't hire 15 year olds. Hmmmmm, I wonder if exposing this thread to sunlight might do the trick.
  14. I can't quite decide. Do I need a wooden stake or a silver bullet for this thread........or possibly both.
  15. OHMYGOD! It's the "Night of the living Dead-Thread".
  16. Second team SLB - Ilias Simpson, 6'4" and 184lbs!?!?!?. Good God! That's too skinny for a WR,........ much less a LB.
  17. "It will hurt more than some at least the way this guy was coming on strong in the last 3 games. It is definitely time for some others to step up at this position!!" What (or who) you are alluding to is not as devistating as what I first feared when this thread got started.
  18. "Stop the personal attacks." I was thinking about making some impersonal ones, but I suppose that is "verboten" as well. It's really too bad. Someone, who shall remain unnamed (or is that "unnumbered"? )was just about to get himself worked up into a full fledged "Donald-Duck fit".
  19. "But Michael Irvin was framed one year (the year the Cowboys lost to the Panthers in the playoffs) along with another player and the woman got jail time for it." Yeah, I sort of remember that. I also remember thinking that (considering all of the things that Irvin probably did and was never charged with it) they should just let the girl go home and call it all "even".
  20. "It seems kind of fishy...sort of like the girl that tried to frame Michael Irvin several years ago. " Frame MICHAEL IRVIN?!?! Good Lord, Michael Irvin didn't need to be framed, he was his own worst enemy. When it comes to Michael Irvin and his off season behavior, my sister might use one her favorite expressions "I don't have to make up lies about (insert name of person here), the truth is bad enough." I don't think that Kobe would appreciate being compared to Michael Irvin.....and neither would I.
  21. "ive missed his 'degrading to women' posts," I don't seem to recall that either when I read his post. I mainly read them for comic relief........very absurd comic relief at that. I know that I might get banned for this but,....... since when did a former fraternity member start worrying about the degradation of women? Just curious.
  22. Believe me, I wouldn't have ordered the DVD from them if I had any other choice. I certainly don't absolve the staff (or management) at the athletic department in this issue......it's just gotten too easy to take shots at them. I just thought that I would take shots (today anyway) at a little more challenging target.
  23. I wonder how many businesses in Austin, College Station, or the Forest Park area of Fort Worth for that matter, have to be "prompted". My wife and I attended an event in the panhandle last summer, and on the way back, we went to a museum on the West Texas A&M campus. Now, Canyon is not a very big town, but it seemed that everywhere I turned, the word "Buffalo" was on some business there in the town. I wonder if they had to be "prompted" to do that?
  24. Rob, Do any of those businesses that you listed have a banner (ideally in Green and white) outside of their business saying (essentially) "proud sponsor of Mean Green Athletics, or (insert company name here) says "Go Mean Green" etc.......You know, an OUTWARD manifestation of their support of North Texas. THAT was my point.
  25. I just wanted to add my 2cents about the Denton community discussion. I don't know what sort of progressive or non-progressive decisions the Denton city fathers/mothers regularly make. I just know that if it weren't for UNT sitting right there on 35 (E&W) you probably wouldn't know that it was there. The businesses in Denton do not "wave the flag" so to speak for one of the biggest source of customers that they have. I find that rather absurd. Now, I have seen those "light pole banners" go up on University and Carroll street, but BIG DEAL, even the tiny community of Haslett puts "light pole banners" up.
