  1. We never could have hired Leach. We couldn't afford him. However, I would've loved for us to hire a coach that took a struggling program and turned it into 10 consecutive winning seasons with 9 consecutive bowl appearances, sounds pretty good to me. That being said, I love Mac and am very glad we got the best coach that we could afford.
  2. Big boy college football programs stay in hotels the night before all games. They don't stay at their own houses or apartments then car pool to the stadium like high school teams. There will not be very much disappointment at all about the team not being there tonight. The majority of the people there are freshmen who are only concerned with the free stuff, skits, and the fire. I would much rather the team be together tonight, getting their heads right for tomorrow.
  3. Speaking for myself and my group of fellow students we wouldn't mind it at all. We often sit on the alumni side for most of the game to avoid the sun and we figure they could use a few more bodies over there to fill in all those empty seats, haha
  4. Since we wont be getting there until an hour and a half or so before kickoff we won't be able to conduct our normal tailgate. However, I would like to partake in consumption of some adult beverages. Therefore, my question is how over priced is the Miller tent (no interest in pitbull sponsor Bud light)? Is it expensive enough to justify hauling our own cooler?
  5. Unfortunately the free popcorn coupons were given out at the first 2 home games as well and the snack was supposed to be thrown after the first UNT touchdown and nothing happened both times. That being said, very pleased with the amount of promotion for the game
  6. That would mean he's performing miracles on a regular basis with nothing around him for multiple years. I wouldn't mind that at all
  7. The only reason they are getting any "media buzz" is because this is their 2nd year playing football. If we were 5-0 with their schedule we would be getting even less media attention than we're getting now. This type of thinking is an unfortunate side effect of the losing football culture we are trying to change. People become so desperate for wins that they decide playing below FBS competition in an attempt to have a good record is the answer. When in reality, doing so wouldn't help build this program but actually halt the process altogether. I understand and agree with the plan to stop playing top 5 or even top 10 programs every year but I do believe that those games as well as games against teams like K-state benefit our program both on the field and financially. Bottom line is I would rather say my team lost to the #7 ranked team in the country 21-35 than to brag about beating teams nobody has ever heard of. There are not many more embarrassing feelings than when you tell someone who your team is playing that week and having that person reply with "That's a real college?"
  8. Didn't see this posted yet so I figured I'd share. Sept. 24, 2012 Dear UNT community, Mean Green pride runs strong and deep at UNT. And we have launched a new campaign, Mean Green Pride We're All In, to reinforce the power of UNT pride on campus and in our communities. When you see the pride campaign logo, it stands as a reminder that we are the home team for Denton and the North Texas region. I'm proud to see that the Denton community is embracing the Mean Green Pride We're All In campaign. The city of Denton, the Denton Chamber of Commerce and local businesses have pledged their support for the new pride campaign. A portion of the sales of products with the pride campaign logo will support The Big Event, our annual and largest service project where thousands of student, staff, faculty and alumni volunteers do community service. The money raised from the pride campaign products will support projects in Denton. You can see which local stores are carrying the new campaign product and offering discounts for wearing green on Fridays. You also will see UNT gear in more places around Denton so there are plenty of opportunities and ways to show your green pride. Go Mean Green! Sincerely, V. 9. Just bought the second to last one at the location by Razor Ranch. Even better than the fact they were about to sell out and the guy at the register said he was going to text his manager to order more of them was the fact that there were 2 other buckets with similar bracelets and they were both full. One was full of crappy burnt orange bracelets and the other I believe was Bama. It was truly great to see that more Dentonites bought Mean Green bracelets than ut and Bama bracelets
  10. When the entire wing-T playbook is utilized and executed effectively out of different wing-T formation sets, the defensive confusion created by the multiple misdirections, deception, and play-fakes is a thing of beauty. Harold "Tubby" Raymond perfected this at the University of Delaware and had great success and some pretty exciting offenses winning 3 national championships during his tenure from 1966 to 2001 (albeit at the division 2 level). It wouldn't have success at the D1 level anymore but it's still a fun system to watch if run the right way.
  11. How full are the red/blue lots currently? And how quickly are they filling up?
  12. Ironically I found one of those exact same schedule cards in a desk I bought at the UNT surplus center. It is now my bookmark
  13. I find it amusing that nobody on the CUSA boards (outside of fellow Mean Greeners) seems to respect our basketball programat all. In fact, other than knowing that Johnny Jones left for LSU, they have no knowledge of what we've done the past 5 years. And almost all of them expect JJ's departure to automatically cripple our basketball program.
  14. Two of the big 3 were only ineligible for roughly half of their freshman year due to academics, not the entire year.
  15. So I've been out of the loop regarding this whole alliance deal because conference realignment talk gives me tired head. So I chose to just stop reading about it completely until something happened. That being said, I would appreciate it greatly if someone could update me on the chances of us getting into this big alliance? Judging by my hasty browsing of related threads it seems like our chances are pretty good.
  16. Agreed. It has to calm Yu's nerves a bit to see his team give him that kind of run support. I believe I heard that the most run support he received in his last season in Japan was 8 and that only happened once. I was equally excited to hear the news of Kinsler's new contract last night after the game. Now, let's see what Neffy does tonight in his 1st start..
  17. Donte Hart and Donte Sloan of Garland High School fame were the best high school running backs I've seen in person. I played against Cyrus Gray my senior year (his senior year as well). He was easily the best player on the field and Desoto's offense that night consisted of him lining up at QB in the shotgun, on the snap all 5 O-linemen showed pass block then did their best to cut block the defender nearest them, then Gray ran around and through the rest of our defense. Hart and Sloan were the 2 best I've ever seen in person with Taurance Rawls in a close 3rd place.
  18. Anybody know which bars in Denton are showing the game tonight?
  19. This might be one of my favorite bits going on this board where we live today sports. Bits are fun
  20. Yea, our own alumni who made a point to reserve a segment, on the most listened to (by far) afternoon drive radio show, for Mean Green basketball talk. And his well-known co-host Rads, who is not an alum, even encourages folks to get out to the Pit tonight at the end of the segment. Damn you Followeezy!
  21. First, let me say that I personally like this letter and believe that it was the result of careful consideration and planning. Second, and completely unrelated, I'm not sure how many people care about UTA but the quote above is false in many different ways. In the case of my former roomate and 2 of his friends, who loved UNT by the way, they had to transfer to UTA this fall. When they enrolled here in 2008 the engineering department assured them that the mechanical engineering program would be accredited by 2012. Over the summer they found out that their degree program was not any closer to being accredited then when they started. All 3 of them along with many others have been forced to transfer due to the mechanical engineering department dragging their feet on this matter. So for many, UTA is not an " I got rejected from every school but don't want to go to community college" but more like a "I waited for a bigger school to get my degree program accredited and they screwed me when I could have gone to this great engineering school right down the road the whole time" type of school... just sayin
