  1. Stop it Rick! Interjecting the accomplishments of teams whose coaches believed in them and the programs they represented does nothing more than derail what could have been a perfectly good argument between two mutually exclusive points...ad nauseum.
  2. This is precisely the attitude I can't stand. Follow and support your school because IT IS YOUR SCHOOL not because they have a history of success. Craig Miller is the worst of offenders, though, because he is a sports broadcaster who got his start and training in sports broadcasting AT NORTH TEXAS.
  3. Longwinded as he is I agree with Plummer...in 1,000 words or less.
  4. Arghhhh! I hate it when they don't have the promotion I like! Nevermind that I should be there for the Mean Green...
  5. In baseball I guess I like TCU since they're the closest geographically to Denton (and if SMU has a team I'm conveniently forgetting them) In the majors I like the Yankees. (Ducks as he types this)
  6. I think it's a bit of a logic leap to assume that had Billy Gillespie come here we would be in the same situation as Texas aTm. For starters they probably would have hired him away from us just like they hired him away from UTEP. Second, until I see thousands in average attendance at basketball games, I refuse to think he could recruit to NT the way he can to aTm. The math just doesn't add up.
  7. It's Valentine's Day! Get off the board! This message brought to you by Lera and other Mean Green wives and girlfriends.
  8. I think this will be the story of the season. Our offense should be more balance and much improved but it means nothing if we can't stop anyone. Will we be able to prevent teams from grinding it out, thereby keeping our offense off the field? The story of the Indy Colts until this year was "explosive offense, no defense." It wasn't until the defense showed up this year and shut some people down that their prolific offense paid dividends.
  9. Ok, so I can't figure out how to make polls anymore so I'll just ask the question straight out. Is J-Mo, if he never plays another down for North Texas, a hall of famer? I'd have to vote yes.
  10. Yes, some of us do know who that guy is and I don't think any of us underestimate just how much he did not just for DD but for the athletic department on the whole...and still does. Plus, he's one of my best friends so when I use him to satirize current events there is no malice intended.
  11. Will it cause problems that Vizza accepted an award from Ford and is now playing for a Dodge?
  12. No, he was recruited by everyone but NT as a DB.
  13. I think you are spot on. Woody isn't Vince Young but he's a simliar QB. Texas won and won big when Mack Brown stopped trying to reign in Young's game and told him to "go out there and create."
  14. There is a thread on the pony board asking where Flanigan went. In it several people talk about how great he and DD were and how they'll be missed.
  15. I didn't say we went out drinking for nothin'...he actually got a phone number.
  16. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=639989 Apparently we averaged 26 touchdowns a game when Dodge was OC back in 92. And, of course, we are a stepping stone job.
  17. This isn't in the papers yet but I have it on good authority, having gone out drinking in Denton with him last night, that Diet Coke Boy probably won't be retained this next year. He's pretty broken up over it and here's the real stinky part of the whole ordeal. He has tried calling Todd Dodge no less than 12 times in the last few weeks and hasn't received a single reply. He's had offers to pour Dr. Pepper at Baylor and even Tea at Manchester United but he believes that DD (and by association NT) made a commitment to him to be our Diet Coke Boy. Well, now the offers at Baylor and Manchester U are off the table as they have gone a different direction. When will this Dodge guy stop embarrassing our fine university? This will be huge when some backwater publication gets ahold of it. Hell, I think it'll probably cancel out the months of positive press that Todd Dodge has brought us. I mean, it it wasn't going to then why would I have put it on the board for everyone to fret about? Oh, one more thing, I asked Diet Coke Boy if he ever called DD at Utah State to ask about their soft drink distribution needs, or maybe called around to see if any other universities need his services, and he replied "Nah, I thought I'd just wait for my phone to ring."
  18. Double teamed or single covered it becomes a much harder catch and shoot situation if the guy throwing the ball inbounds has to alter his pass. Why in the world do you think "Quarterback hurries" is a statistic in football? It's because simply pressuring the passer causes worse throws. And if you're using his being "double teamed" as an excuse then the argument gets all the weaker. We can cut off a pass to a guy we know is getting the ball using two defenders? Of course, if you don't take timeout and allow them to draw up the play this is a moot issue.
  19. Different situations. We hadn't just converted a free throw to take the lead with 2 seconds left, thereby forcing them to inbound from below their bucket with no sort of plan drawn up and having to actually run the length of the court to get the shot off. The timeout allowed all of their players to get onto our end of the court to receive a pass with the clock not starting until it was caught. That's the difference. Bad call.
  20. Several things that I saw last night that come down to coaching and coaching alone... 1)McCaleb picks up his 4th foul with about 5 minutes to go and WE DON'T DRIVE AT HIM. That's the coaches job to tell your players to foul that guy out. 2)We were ice cold from beyond the arc. Hey coach, tell your team to pound it down low more. 3)The timeout with 2 seconds left was insane. 4)If you're gonna call a timeout to set up your defense INCLUDE A GUY GUARDING THE INBOUNDS PASS in your little discussion. 5)Where were the people at my tailgate? I blame JJ for this too.
  21. PUT SOMEONE ON THE INBOUNDS PASS! Also, I TOTALLY agree about going at McCaleb. I could tell the refs were shy about calling that 5th foul but we should have driven at him to force their hand. How many times did he drive to the bucket and get either the hoop, the foul or both?
