  1. A few things to say about your comments. 1. Alot of coaches that have only been with the team for a year put the blaim on the players, but they're expected within a few years to recruit better players and train them appropriately. DD recruited these and trained these guys. 2.If you're players run out of gas by the second game of the season you are in HUGE trouble. From what I've heard by others on this board, DD is a great guy. It's time for him to hit the road though, and if he has any self respect he'll resign at the end of the year. Hopefully we'll learn from this lesson and the next coach will have a contract based on his performance.
  2. Actually, does anyone else have stats on other sunbelt schools? Like what their average test scores are, etc.? I only know the MUTS admission requirements, I believe you have to be able to spell your name correctly and read at a third grade level.
  3. Hopefully the plans of a new stadium being built will be released in the near future, I can't imagine what that's going to do for attendance and on campus morale. I posted this a while ago, but I wish i had 50 million so the stadium was named after me. Outside the main gates I would have huge bronze statue built of me, about 30-40 feet in height. I would be doing the heisman pose, but instead of a football I would have a beer in my hand. Below me on the ground, I have slain a longhorn, an aggie, a drunk from tech and a horned frog. On the base of the statue it would read: The greatest alumni of all-time. That would be awesome.
  4. This is a great post, and i couldn't agree with you more. The only reason why we have a football team is to get people interested and aware of the university. It's also a great tool to network and get old alumni back on campus, but all this is meaningless if you don't have the academics to back it up. They aren't mutually exclusive, but whenever you put money into a program there's always an opportunity cost of the next best alternative. Dr. Bataille realizes how important athletics are to any university, and the place they serve to compliment the academics of a major state school.
  5. What was she supposed to say? Something like 'Our football team is 3-13 in the past 16 games despite throwing away momentum of 4 bowl appearences that haven't done anything to help recruiting?'
  6. I think we have a decent squad here. We dominated an SMU team who killed Ark State. Ark State beat army, who played a great game against A&M. With that logic we should be able to play any CUSA or MAC team at a competitive level. So what's wrong? Why are we getting blown out? It's not because tulsa and akron had better athletes. Now let me sum up what everyone on this board keep posting: If you look at the stats and analzye them there's one common denominator. It's our coaching holding us back, not our athletes. When your starting QB has 6 pass attempts, or when you lose the turnover/field position/special teams battle, this is clearly a poorly coached team. I think I read this right, but didn't we have more yards total offense than akron?!?! If you look at the final score and see those stats, if you think for one second that this isn't a coaching problem you are totally inept. If athletic ability is the problem there's only so much you can do, but these are correctible errors that have been happening for 2 years.
  7. I understand what you're saying but I think we could of won these games if DD wasnt coaching them. It's not that we weren't outplayed in the tulsa game, it was 6 passing attempts. Hell, I think we had about the same yardage as Akron did, we just played horrible on special teams.
  8. You've got to be kidding me. I think we've got a pretty good squad of players on our team this year. Unless DD thinks of it as a very important game he doesn't get the team ready. If we came out there like we did against SMU no way we lose big in either game.
  9. Everytime I watch that video it makes me wish I had $50 million laying around so I could name the stadium after me. I'm thinking I would have them build a huge bronze statue of me, maybe 20-30 feet in height. I'm doing the heisman pose with a beer in my hand instead of a football. Below me on the ground I've slain a longhorn, an aggie, a drunk from tech and a horned frog. On the base of the statue it would have the caption: Our greatest alumni of all-time. Oh man, that would be so sweet. Dr. Phil ain't got crap on me.
  10. I don't know a whole lot about college basketball, but it seems to me we could really showcase our facilities and tradition at UNT through this game to future recruits in the area.
  11. We've got to get a new stadium, and I don't really see the point of a new 30k stadium. I'm sure alot of you and UNT administrators would say why build a 45k stadium if our largest crowd to date is barely 30k? If we want teams like texas, oklahoma and a&m to sign 2:1 deals with us we need to build a larger stadium (40-45k), something that looks impressive on tv. Playing a few big named teams at home gets students, alumni, and the people of denton interested in the football team. We start recruiting better due to nicer facilities, and as a result, start becoming more competitive in the big games. Pretty soon we're catchign alot of national exposure, selling out the stadium, and getting positive results. This is basically a condensed version of the UL story, and it could be us. In business, a company will always be willing to take a risk as long as the expected return is substantial enough to offset the risk of failure. No one can guarantee if we build a new stadium we'll have the success that Loiusville has had. But if $50 million could help project us to a top tier university in the national spot light, it's an investment every alumni and employee of the university should support.
  12. KingDL1, I see the anti-Dickey sign in your signature is back. I guess it's kind of like the epsn bottom 10, if you get a win you're off for a week But in all seriousness, if we lose to akron and get back in the bottom 10 I think I'm gonna have to add something similar.
  13. I think thats a pretty damn good post chris. I'd like to think RV thinks the same way. He thinks big and so far has given every athletics program here pretty good conditions to work with. I really wonder what he thinks about the football program after last night's loss, and his opinions on DD. On another note: Shaft, how does running the ball on third and long compliment our players? How does running the ball with 9 players in the box supposed to help us? How does giving our starting QB 6 pass attempts supposed to help open up that run game. We have the talent to win the sunbelt, but unless we can shake things up I don't see that happening.
  14. I know I couldn't develop or recruit players, but I sure as hell could call better plays. And as far as I'm concerned, if I donate/pay with tuition (for the current students) to a program that I don't think is playing to their potential I can be as over critical as I want. I said earlier I have realistic expectations for our team. We don't have to be nationally ranked for me to be happy with the program, a losing season will happen and you can't win the conference every year. I'm saying this because I'm not the type of fair weathered fan that's only happy if his team wins the championship. It pisses me off though to continously see half-assed efforts in big OOC games. And it's not a huge mystery of what's happening out there. We can't throw the ball, and we aren't fixing it. If anyone has some time and stats I would be very interesting to see what our record has been when we've passed for over 200 yards in the past few seasons.
  15. I didn't watch or listen to the tulsa game, and now that I think about it I'm happy I didn't because it would of ruined my entire weekend. Oddly enough, I'm not bothered by the score of 28-3. I wasn't bothered by our 2-9 record last year either, because after four years a team will have an off season to rebuild. BUT, the thing that bothers me is the way we lost these games. Our play calling, coaching, and schemes we run are so inept, it's painful. It's not that we lost 28-3 to tulsa, it's the fact that a volunteer pee-wee coach could of done better than Dickey. Woody went 5/6 in passing. Someone tell me why the hell he only had 6 pass attempts?!?! Our entire coaching staff seems apathetic about everything. There's just no fire in the team, and that bothers me. I'm sick of the way Dickey coaches. If running the ball 70% of the time doesn't work, then don't do it. I have realistic expectations. I don't expect us to beat texas and play in a BCS bowl game. I do expect we make reasonable changes in game situations where we can be put in a position to win.
  16. Very true. A few belt teams have really impressed me so far this season. FIU was up 28-27 against Bowling Green late in the fourth (Bowling Green barely pulled out a win), they almost knocked off South Florida last week too. Troy has also been playing everyone hard. It's hard to say if we're getting worse or the belt is getting better because our OOC games have always been bad.
  17. Looks like a bad deja vu of last year. When you start getting outplayed consistently in the 2nd half that's coaching.
  18. I've said it once and I'll say it again, we need to start a good rivalry with troy. Maybe play them as the last game of the season and call it the battle for the belt or something.
  19. EEALLY, One game doesn't change my opinion about the coaching. If anyone thinks just because we won one game we're going to go out and win 10 games this year you've been drinking way to much green koolaid. For all of that have never played a down of competitive football, know this: football is a brutal sport and it's a long season. After the first few games, most players aren't 100% for the rest of the season. You see alot of fluke wins because of factors like that, so never judge a team by one game. Back on topic, I've never said Dickey is a bad coach. You don't go to four bowl games on luck, and I think he'll get us back up to winning the belt. I don't think he's a great coach either, he still doesn't have a winning record after 9 seasons. You can make arguements for both sides, but as far as I'm concerned he's still an average coach. With the current circumstances, I don't see Dickey winning 10 games and ever getting us a top 25 spot. He has a niche of beating belt teams, and the occasional OOC win. He has taken a couple of short steps in the right direction this season, but it's going to be a long arduous journey. I'll wait to November to start making judgements.
  20. A few of the games that interest me: Troy 24 vs GT 23.. Should be a very interesting game to watch, troy is going to be tough this year. UNT 17 vs Tulsa 20.. This game will be a real test for us, and I really have no idea just how good either team is. I've been impressed with our defense so far, I don't think either team will score a whole lot. LaMo 7 vs Alabama 35... good luck, they're going to need it. FIU 20 vs Bowling Green 30... FIU impressed me last week (I believe they barely lost to South Florida) I don't know much about bowling green but I believe FIU can keep it close.
  21. I know everyone talks about getting into a better conference has to do with facilities. Don't get me wrong, thats very much true, but if we can bring lots of fans to the road games that are relatively close (in oklahoma for example) thats a huge impression we leave about how serious we are and how we can help attendance.
  22. Out of curiosity how can there be a 18.5 spread? Why not 18.75 I don't know a whole lot about gambling but I'd take that and bet on us. I don't see a team that got blown out by another mid-major last week beating us that badly.
  23. BYU killed Tulsa this week. Regardless, tulsa is arguably the best opponent on our schedule (excluding UT) and should make for an interesting game. Also, what better way to show CUSA we belong by staying competitive and bringing tons of fans to tulsa. If we travel well, anyone with a lick of sense will want us to join their conference.
  24. In my opinion SMU has a huge recruiting advantage. A private, top tier university with a better stadium and much larger endowment. Fans on both message boards are over critical because they are so passionate about their school. Seems like Bennet has been slowly making SMU a better program. Hell, we've had a coach who's taken us to 4 bowl games and up until 2 days ago the majority of posters on here wanted him fired. One loss/win won't make or break any teams long term success. Take a deep breath and enjoy the rest of your season, there's still alot of football left to play.
  25. I'd like to introduce SMU to the word irony. I remember they made fun of us on ponyfans.com because we stated how huge this game was for us. They said we weren't even close to being rivals with them and this game meant nothing to them. Low and behold, after we win this is the WORST LOSS IN SMU HISTORY. Poor SMU, this was supposed to be just another trivial OOC game.
