  1. With the dark green I used to like all green including the helmets, but with the new lighter green that would look terrible. I like southlake's color scheme. Black pants, with the green jersey and white helmet. And for the love of all thats good and pure put the eagle on there... no one wants to see north texas in block letters
  2. Trust me, if RV thinks he can make us a top 25 program and Dodge proves it in the next few years, he'll have up to 500k in incentives. We're trying to raise 60M for a new stadium to make us more competitive on a national level. If a coach can can help us get there, I have no problems opening up the checkbook, he's just got to prove himself first.
  3. I'm all about the incentives part in the coaches contract. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think DD had anything like that in his contract.
  4. It seems a little funnier and less harsh looking back on it. When you're 17 and you've spent all summer waking at dawn for summer work outs, and you know this is the last time you'll ever strap on a football helmet.. well them was fightin' words
  5. Just out of curiousity how many people have seen SLC play while Todd Dodge was coaching them? I played against Dodge in 2002 in the state quarter finals, and I thought SLC had no class at all... Chase Wasson's cadence to run out the clock was Set! GO! home! After that followed several snide comments from other SLC players. Regardless, I'm glad Dodge is here.
  6. You'll see an occasional UT or other BCS team gear, but I see a lot more students wearing UNT gear than anything else on an average day.
  7. Emmit, trying to reason with SMU is like arguing with your shadow. We beat them this year and instead of a 'good game you guys did good', everyone said 'man we're better than them. how did we lose?' It is funny listening to some of their responses. This is the best one: "UNT beat us last season, and that was poor on our part, not good on their part. I am not sure about them winning 3-4 head to head games with us over the last 6 years. Maybe 2" That's funny. We had a terrible team last season and beat them on what they considered to be their best season in almost a decade. Yes SMU mustangs, you read that last line correctly. Yet, according to this dumb ass, our 2003 9-4 team that went to a bowl game probably would of lost to their 2003 0-12 team. Idiots. By the way, the sun belt was 3-3 vs CUSA this year. So what's the excuse now?
  8. Everyone's still in a Dodge craze, but hats off to RV. RV refused to let us settle for average. He's set out a vision for our university that’s unparallel to most mid-major DI-A schools. He took a big risk this week, in hopes that it will pay off for seasons to come. It’s hard to imagine what our athletic department would be like without him here. I know Dodge right now is the toast of the town right now, but we are damn lucky to have RV.
  9. I don't see us getting a sell out crowd in front of a MAC team... (isn't that our first home game?) I would think about 25-28k. In my opinion, here's going to be the difference. For the last two years we've had pretty good attendance for the first few games, but people got tired of seeing a slow offense that rarely won. I think after they see dodge-ball, we're going to start hooking them in.
  10. I'm not saying we need to just roll over and take it, I expect our team to play to win. I expect 110% effort out of everybody and a no excuses mentality. But I think you are going to be very disappointed if your expecting dodge to perform a miracle and get us to be ranked in the top 25 this season. Look at it this way, if you were to put your life savings on the UNT vs OU game next year I don't think anyone on this board would be betting on UNT. I'm being realistic with the current situation, not settling for being a loser. We hired dodge to get us out of these types of situations... I don't expect to be in the same position 2 or 3 years down the road.
  11. I agree with fake. Im excited by dodge, and i think the talent level will rise quite a bit in the next few years, but lets face the facts. I dont know if any coach in football could pull this off given the time restraints and our current athletes. And is pathetic mentality being realistic about situations? Dodge won't have a ten win season next year and OU is going to crush us. I think we all have high hopes for Dodge turning us into a top 25 program, but it's going to take at least a few years.
  12. I wrote a paper about this trying to figure out why a playoff system isn't used. The only real reason I can think about is tv ratings for mid-season games. Unlike pro football, in college every game matters. The Ohio state and michigan game still would of had a lot of hype, but if there's a playoff system either team can still redeem themselves in the playoffs. Rather than putting everything on the line, both teams might of just played it safe instead of risking injuries (much like two powerhouses in the nfl who both already have homefield advantage). This is the only logical reason I can find to keep the BSC.
  13. I took his course a last semester, hes a tough professor but I think most of the material in 4200 is fairly basic. You can PM me if you have other questions.
  14. Welcome to the board. I'm a student also, but not for long (I graduate this may with a degree in finance). When I was a freshmen and sophomore it seemed like all my friends and classmates were very involved and interested in UNT athletics. As I started taking more upper level classes, I noticed more of the students are apathetic towards atheletics and UNT in general. I'm not sure if it's because of an age gap difference or because college is almost over. Anyways, I hope you and a few of your buddies become regulars on here.
  15. You're right, I didn't know it was a race against time. Was the rule of a 30k DIA stadium made in 94? If not I would think the administration would have thought in advance. Like maybe in 87 or 88 start a fundraising campaign so they could meet it in time for the 94 season.
  16. Ok, this all makes sense but wouldn't it have been better to actually put up some money for a lasting investment in the school? Was the school's old leadership really that bad that they didn't have a vision for the future? It seems like they just wanted to build it as cheaply as possible and have no quality at all? If this really is the case I don't see how anyone on this board could ever dislike RV.
  17. I watched necessary roughness for the first time last night, and maybe some of the elders on this board can help me out here. Who the hell was responsible for building the end-zone seating in fouts? I've always known they are terrible seats because of the poor design, but what were we thinking? Seeing the stadium without the end zone seating actually made fouts look better. Why on earth didn't we build two end-zone sections right up against the field and try to connect them to the entire stadium?? From aerial pictures the end zones look long enough to do it, its just they are put so far back. Wouldn't it of been easier to demolish the track and build seats where you can actually see the game from the end-zone seats? Does anyone know who we hired to draw up and build the expansion?
  18. I Don't know a whole lot about college basketball, but what would it take for us to get into the NCAA tournament? Is it an at large bid decided by the NCAA? Do we have to win the sunbelt to be heavily considered?
  19. When trying to tackle somebody you can hit them in the back, hold on to their jersey... pretty much anything goes except closelining and facemasking (I think even pulling them down by their hair is legal in the NFL. Larry Johnson of the Chiefs was flagged not for pulling down troy polamula by the hair, but for grabbing his hair on the way up). You can't tackle someone while blocking them, plain and simple. You can't hold them and you can't hit them in the back. If you did you'd see much better blocking and a lot more punt returns going for touchdowns. Since the offense knows the play they're running (assuming this isn't a Dickey coached team), this can help the defense equilize the advantage.
  20. I was going to post something like this. I assume Dickey is going to try looking for another coaching position somewhere else, so why the hell would he make an ass out of himself and burn his bridges here. No way I would hire him even as an assistant coach at a DII program after the stunts he's pulled here. And what does he have to be mad about? He just got a half million dollar buy out. If I was doing a lousy job at work and was given 500k to leave I wouldn't be bitter.
  21. One other question: If TxDot does need room and demolishes fouts field how much would they pay us for imminent domain? Could this be a base that would pay for 1/4 to half of the new stadium?
  22. Anything less than 40k is stupid. If we want UT, ATM or OU to give us 2:1 deals we need need this. Costs will only go up in the future. We're expected to grow so build it big now. Ideally I would want a 45K stadium that is like amon carter. Outsiders might argue that we rarely get attendance over 25k but look at how much athletics at UNT has grown over the last 5 years. If we continue to get new freshmen every year who are encouraged and attend football games, imagine how our attendance will look in 10 years. It's almost like a dream to imagine us in a decent conference playing regional opponents with an OOC that has UT at home. A stadium alone won't complete this, but it will get us on the right path.
  23. He's about to get a .5 million 'severence package' thanks to the UNT athletic department despite going under .500 for 9 years. He needs to pipe down and buy a condo in Florida.
  24. I have nothing bad to say with mattress mac. I disagree with his stance on DD and how much bad press he gave us, but at least he gave a million bucks and has stated he will continue to financially support the program into the next coaches tenure. Until one of us donates a million, we shouldn't be dogging him. Rule number one: When you need serious cash to build a stadium, don't go out of your way to piss off a big donor.
