  1. Old man, my point is I don't see how it really matters. The fact that everyone on here blows up over trivial bs is laughable though. Don't you guys ever get tired of over analyzing everything that comes out of DD/RV/LJ/the new president's mouth? Anyways, a guy who just got canned is able to purchase over 70 some odd jerseys without the consent of anybody? And simultaneously this didn't throw off any indicators that DD might make the metaphor that the team is dead without him, despite that this might throw away the chance of having a good standing with the university and could possibly hinder his employment in the future.
  2. I didn't attend the game saturday, but what's the big deal with the all black uniforms? They looked stupid, I'll agree on that part. From what I've read, you guys make it sound like Dickey was sending out some metaphor about the schools future. So what, we had all black uniforms. They were ordered before the begining of the season. I'm pissed after I watch the game because of the crappy play calling, not because the color of our uniforms. Is there something I didn't catch about why everyones so pissed about it?
  3. Kind of interesting... I was talking to a guy in HR today who went to OU and had talked to Dickey several times. Said he saw him play in college and had been on a flight with him while he was a head coach here. He said Dickey didn't appear to be head coaching material but it was awful how UNT treated him. It goes to show unless you follow UNT football very closely you really can't make a judgement call on this. Anyways, if RV hires a guy who takes us to 11-1 and we have a few TCU type seasons, no one is going to care about the Dickey situation.
  4. I read this post a few times to make sure I wasn't missing any subtle hints of sarcasm. Then I realized it wasn't me, you're just an idiot. This post is almost as bad as the lee jackson/SMU conspiracy theory to ruin UNT athletics.
  5. The majority of posters on this board are always going to find something to blow out of proportion. RV I appreciate your honesty and I don't know of a lot of other AD's that would post on a board like this. In my opinion, RV has been one of the best things to happen to UNT in a long time. He's laid a foundation and set a bold vision for NT athletics, and so far he's accomplished everything he's set out to do. I keep reading posts like the stadium is a big hoax, or RV is going to rig the new coaching hire. Give me a break. Let the man do his job, he has done fantastic so far. RV thanks for the hard work and keeping us informed. Jon
  6. And you think by keeping a coach who was under .500 for 9 years with inept coaching schemes is going to keep the money rolling in? I don't understand why someone wouldn't agree with RV's decision. Essentially we're taking a risk here, if it pays off we're back bowling. If it doesn't, we haven't lost anything. DD's last two years here were horrible and he wasn't going to turn the situation around anytime soon.
  7. Everyone's applauding RV for making the right decision, and at the same time wishing the best to DD and his family. I couldn't agree more, DD is a great guy but this was definitely the right choice to make. Now the tough question: Who do we pick that can transform us to the next Boise state, louisville, etc? Let's be realistic here, unless we get really lucky or RV has a brilliant talent for spotting a diamond in the rough, we're going to have to pay out the ass for a new coach who can take us there. I'm not a big fan of trying a DII or high school coach either. I want a guy who knows how to win and has done it before. We sign him to a big contract based on how many games won and attendance, so we get what we pay for. That being said, what candidates are out there and how do we convince them to come to Denton?
  8. I was going to post something similar but you pretty much hit the nail on the head lifer. EVEN IF RF is the reason the offense is horrible, DD's job is to put together the 'total package'. That means offense, defense and special teams are crisp and ready to play. If I were to continue to turn in lousy reports to clients at work it's my fault. If this keeps us and we lose business my boss is held responsible. No excuses for DD.
  9. They haven't gotten much of a work out in the past few seasons
  10. All I can say is what a game, especially if you look at what they've accomplished in the past 10 years. This should give every mid-major fan goosebumps, to see a program that is now competing for a BCS bowl bid and a national championship. My only hope is that we can someday build a team and fan base like that. It just reminds me it's NOT impossible to win big games if you have good facilities with the right leaders who have a vision. Hats off to Louisville, they've accomplished a hell of a lot in a short period of time.
  11. King I've heard that too. Regardless of any rumors though, at the time I thought it was a good choice. I thought our 4th bowl game was DD's rebuilding year. No one would have dreamed we would win a combined 4 games in the following two years. If DD is still here this season the blaim goes on RV. I don't care who gave the extension or how much money its going to cost, DD is done. Any individual with a thread of dignity would step down. DD needs to for himself and for the team. The sunbelt is much better and we have gotten progressively worse for 3 years in a row now. If we want to stay competitive with ASU and MUTS in the future we need to make changes now.
  12. In my opinion the brightest moment in NT football: It's the 03-04 season, days before our third consecutive bowl game. We're coming off of our first bowl win ever against Cinci. Earlier in the season we crushed Baylor and established ourselves as the superpower of the sunbelt. We're 9-3 and looking to get our first 10 win season since the Hayden Fry era. At this point I thought Dickey was the greatest thing since sliced bread. He was going to take NT football out of the dark ages and build us into a top 25 team. I had no idea that the next season we would get blown out by texas 65-0, and if you had of told me in the next few seasons DD would go 2-9 I would of laughed in disbelief. I never though the MUTS and ASU would soon blow us out, that we would be barely competitive with FAU and FIU. I realize the sunbelt has gotten better but... what the hell happened?
  13. I don't see why people think Ark state is so good this season. They got stomped by SMU and barely beat a horrible memphis team. Even if they do win, the realization will set in that they're still from arkansas- the s*** state no one cares about. Here's a good question: If you graduate from Ark State what kind of job can you get in Arkansas? I know the assistant manager at walmart might be a possibility.
  14. Lifer, maybe you can tell me but was the game broadcasted on a miami hurricanes channel? I guess maybe it would be similar to KNTV (or whatever its called) in Denton? I'm hoping thats the case, and a third party station wouldn't hire someone that ignorant.
  15. Wow, very embarassing for both schools. I looked at the FIU board to see what they were saying about it, what a bunch of classy individuals. This is just a good reminder of why I hate everything about miami.
  16. It always cracks me up to hear someone use the adjective 'stupidest' when they are tying to explain why something is brainless.
  17. A good indicator of a coach is how many excuses he makes and the portion of blame he puts on himself when the team doesn't meet their goals. In sports, you prepare your players for the worst situations. You teach your players that if the refs are calling bad penalties, you adapt your game and still find a way to win. When I played, one game I kept telling the coach it wasn't my fault I wasn't getting in the backfield because each play there was holding and the refs weren't calling a damn thing. My coach basically said I don't give a rats ass, we prepared you for this. Find a way to get it done or we'll find somebody else. What message does DD send to the team with all of this? If the coach is making excuses, the players are going to do the same thing. If losing has already been expected by the coach, what do you think that tells the players going into that week of practice?
  18. Most outsiders don't know of MTSU, but we have some what of a rivalry with them. (I use the term rivalry very loosely here since up to this year the series has been one sided) Isn't this only our second year of playing FIU?
  19. What did you guys expect after going 3-14 in the last 17 games playing a 0-5 team that no one has ever heard of? We're lucky we had decent attendance last week against the MUTS
  20. Don't you guys think RV would resign or tell us he's leaving first, and then we would start looking? On top of that, if this was looking for a new athletic director I really hope the qualifications would be more than just three years of college athletics experience.
  21. Wow, they suckered me into watching this one. They should of said, The tiolet bowl: Florida International Airport vs. the school who could be out coached by by a 5th grader who plays madden.
  22. I'm not defending students who don't go to games, but we need to start winning and playing more recognizable teams. 25k at the SMU game after a 2-9 season and getting blown out the game before isn't bad. And wasn't there 20k+ for MUTS after getting our asses handed to us for two weeks before that? I'm not a fair-weathered fan, but I have to admit when your 3-14 in the past 17 games and you think you're going to lose to a school that sounds like an airport (florida international) it's hard to get excited about the game.
  23. The first half is going to be pretty slow, FIU takes a 6-0 lead. Second half roles around and they pull away 27-3. I hope I'm wrong but what makes anyone think we're going to win this. I was around campus today, and I remember last year there were tons of signs and chalk everywhere on the campus. This year there is almost nothing out there On an interesting note I was playing NCAA 2005 and chose to play a different team besides NT this time. In the second year they are ranked #3, playing Georgia in the orange bowl, with cobbs second in voting for the heisman. Just thought it was interesting because this was just from simulating the games... at least EA showed us some respect =P
  24. Besides the Ark State game FIU has also played some very good teams to the very end. FIU could very easily be 4-1 or 3-2 right now. A look at their close games: Lost to MUTS 7-6 Lost to South Florida 21-20 Lost to bowling green 28-33 (I think this one came down to the last few plays where bowling green scored) Lost to Maryland 14-10 I know its homecoming, but I seriously doubt we win Saturday. Now can someone explain to me why a program located in texas that has been to 4 bowl games recently can't out recruit and outplay a young program that just entered DIA??? Looking at our past winning history, we should have been able to out recruit these guys to where we can stomp them.
  25. That may of been the funniest post I've ever read.
