  1. The UNT police department might consider that assault with a deadly weapon
  2. They aren't paid on commission, they get paid $8 an hour and get a .50 cent raise for each year they stay. Last year I went drinking at the garage with a few of them who work there. So each time you see them and want to yell at them remember this: 1. They are poor students trying to make extra money, they're just doint what they're told. 2. The administration makes up the parking rules and procedures, they just enforce them I don't agree with all the parking policies, but unfornatly theres a massive parking shortage everywhere except Fouts field. If the parking department and administration build parking garages to solve the problem a parking sticker would cost about 500 bucks, so they're in a lose lose situation. Like I said eariler I don't agree with all the parking policies but don't get mad at the meter maids, get mad at the big wigs.
  3. I was always taught to play in either a 4-3 or a 'bear' defense. The few times I played in a 3-4 the purpose was to mask the blitz. There almost was always a 4th rusher, a linebacker blitzing each time from a different direction. As said a post before this if you have a good linebacking core and a big boy d-line is hard to find this can definatly be the way to go. Parcels runs the 3-4 and is a fan of the big beefy linebackers. One of the reasons he didn't run it his first year in Dallas was smaller quick linebackers like Dat Nguyen. In a 4-3 quicker linebackers can depend on the extra defensive linemen holding back blockers while a player like Nguyen is free to run down the ball carrier.
  4. If we go out on defense and hit some whorns in the mouth and on offense we are crisp with good execution I could care less of what the score is. The last thing I want is to see us play half-assed football with lots of mental mistakes. I'm expecting a big loss but I hope we can show them we're a physical and mentally tough football team. In my mind DD should be saying this to his players: If you lined up each team, UT could out run, out bench and flat out outplay us. They are just better athletes. But that's where heart comes into play. Each play wear them down. After every play the UT linemen should be thinking about the bruise you left him and the next hit thats coming. My old football coach once said you can't make other people like you, but you can make the respect you, and you do that on the football field by playing with intensity and no fear. My prediction: UT-42 NT-10.
  5. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the UTA administration had looked at UNT and their strategic plans to see if they could get the students more involved at UTA. I don't remember, I've drank since then. I said this earlier in a previous thread, but I grew up and went to highschool literally less than a mile away from UTA. UTA had a huge commuter image and was often refered to as the 13th grade or UNC (University of North Cooper). Hopefully UTA can shake their image, but the until they get a football team that starts packing people in the stands I just don't see that happening.
  6. Why does the UTA board have a football forum? For this logic, we need to add a UNT baseball section because we want it in the future.
  7. I think thats a great quote. The place where I intern had a company dinner a few months back, and during the meal they started to talk about different universities. The president of the company went to both Vanderbilt and Stanford and started talking about the great programs these schools have. After about five minutes of other people talking about other universities, North Texas was mentioned. My bosses wife stated UNT had a great music program and they knew someone who was a national merit semi-finalist that was going to attend UNT. Another person asked me 'don't you attend UNT?' and asked me about other programs there. I told them about the experience with the business program I've had and how much the school is growing. Everyone there was impressed and I have never once felt looked down upon at work even though most of the people I work at have degrees from private universities. We have a very bright future and we're going in the right direction thanks to individuals like RV and Dr. Pohl. We need to look at the big picture and be positive about it. I chose UNT over tech and A&M and there was a reason for it. Lets be proud and loud and let other people know.
  8. Ok, a few questions for the older alumni. 1. How to we obtain the endowment? Donors, excess funds, state money? 2. How the hell do we have so little of it, especially compared to UH and Tech. I understand why A&M and UT would be way ahead of us, but HOW can we be so behind? 3. Whats the primary uses of our endowment? Is it scholarships, help building new buildings or for starting new programs?
  9. Isn't the game being regionally televised? Fox Sports Southwest I thought I read but I'm not sure.
  10. Yes, I did see that thread on ponyfans.com, I get bored at work and browse other teams message boards. By the way, UNTLifer totally stuck it to SMU earlier in the SMU Loves UNT thread. I highly recommend you check it out, unless you like depriving yourselves of things that kick ass.
  11. I got this off of another message board, but if you could pick any OOC opponents you wanted who would you choose? 1. Home and home series with Texas (We can all dream) 2. TCU 3. SMU 4. Colorado home and home series. My dad went there, they have always been my number 2 team.
  12. Does UTA have a message board? I would be interested in looking at it. I played football in highschool at maverick stadium and went to Arlington High so I always was near the campus. I was never really a fan of UTA and rather us play other regional teams like TCU, but I definatly think the series is a good idea.
  13. OK let me clear a few things up. I'm not calling us a commuter school by any means. We have the largest on campus population out of any school in this area. WE DO however have a large portion of commuter students. The NT daily reported that over 15,000 students don't live in Denton. The school has over 32,000 but I'm also assuming that large portion of this 15,000 commuters are graduate students. As a generality commuters come to get a degree and move on with their lives. Look at UTA. There's a big reason why I didn't want to go there, and thats because there isn't near as much campus life as UNT. There's nothing wrong with it but the average age for undergrads was 27 a few years back at UTA. When I was 18 that didn't sound very appealing to me. And once again, if you're driving from Dallas everyday working your way through school, UNT athletics and other extra events usually aren't going to be much of an option for you. When I lived on campus I worked at the eagle fund raiser, where I'd call alumni and ask them for donations. You are encouraged to talk to them and see their interests and talk about their time at UNT. 95% of the time the ones who said 'I hate that school ever don't call me again!' were commuters. That wasn't always the case, but back to my point I still think we need to cut down on commuters and continue to build up our on campus population.
  14. If we played tech, texas, oklahoma, etc. every year our home attendance would be way up too. I saw an OU game at baylor a few years ago, I swear I didn't see almost any green or yellow in the entire stadium. Take them out of the big XII they would average about the same as us. My girlfriend works for the visual art department, and none of them support UNT sports at all. I once tried to tell them what other kind of event networks thousands of students and alumni together and they still didn't get it. Now back to the point I was going too: Generally speaking the liberal art type majors won't support athletics, same with commuters. Baylor certainly doesn't have any commuters and their students/alumni typically tend to be more conservative. Solution to the problem: Continue building up better programs like the college of engineering/building the new business building, etc. Continue to build more dorms and try to start weeding out commuters. Ex. If someone doesn't plan on moving to denton to attend school, they should be scoring quite a bit higher on test scores for admittance than someone who were to live on campus. I don't know if we can do this or if its legal but I think its a good idea. It just gives us higher test scores or more school spirit, not a dead beat student who's stupid.
  15. http://www.ponyfans.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.p...er=asc&start=75 From Greenpride04: "I can't believe some of the absurd posts on this board. Most members of this board claim SMU to be a university for grooming the upper class, yet there is so many petty and childish remarks. This entire thread sounds more of like a bunch of insecure high school girls bad mouthing each other. You talk about UNT/TCU/insert school having an inferiority complex? Take a look at your own board." Not all posters are bad. But I don't think I've EVER read as many rude, insecure childish remarks on any other message board.
  16. It would definatly make things interesting in denton. This sounds bad, but I think if he did come to play for us it would boost our attendance and awareness about NT football in the region. I would assume we would be able to recruit better receivers with a proven QB. Unlikely scenerio but just how good could we be with JT and Bomar on the same field? Just imagine if Bomar had the almighty JQ there also. Yea I realize JQ is a redshirt senior but its fun to think.
  17. Thats incredible! Now if only GMG could do something to give SMU the death penatly again we'd be in business
  18. I already predicted 4-7 in a previous thread. I know SMU is a big game and a regional rival but I dont see that being a huge crucial game this season IF we want to go bowling this year and heres why: Realistically speaking there's a very good chance of us going 0-3 or 0-4. I don't see the UT or Tulsa game being close. I hope I'm wrong about this but I don't see us winning against SMU either. Historically DD doesn't start off the season in a winning fashion, and from recent experience I wouldn't be surprised at all if the SMU game is close in the first half but due to lack of half time adjustments we end up losing it in the 4th quarter (Example: third and long, 8 men in the box and we run a draw play). This season I think the game at Akron and the game against Arkansas State is going to be the two games that could turn around a disasterous season into a winning season. If we do blow the first three games and beat Akron, that could instill enough confidence in the squad to beat MTSU and FIU. Another big win at Arkansas State puts us over .500, and then we only need to win 2 out of the next 5 games to be bowl eligable. I know a SMU loss would be huge, but because of the time and placement the Akron game could be bigger in terms of turning around the season. I'm also not counting how huge the loss would be to SMU for recruiting. I'm just counting how big it would be in terms of momentum and getting a winning streak started. I already picked 4-7 and stick with that pick, but if we were to go bowling the first half of the season would most likely go down like this: L Texas L SMU L Tulsa W Akron - Timely win, gives team hope of turning around the season. W MTSU - Another crucial win, MTSU will be gunning for us. W FIU - A must win W ASU - Big critical game, looks like we are a serious contender for the belt if we win this
  19. Heres the scenerio: A high roller comes up to you and says if you can correctly guess the season record and name the wins and losses to each team on the NT schedule this year he'll give you a pay out of $1 million dollars. This eliminates any green koolade in predicting the season. 1. L at Texas. A big loss, not even close 55-6 2. L SMU. Our passing is still horrible but the defense begins to gel. 24-10 3. L at Tulsa. Another big loss GMG is calling for Dickeys head. 30-7 4. L at Akron. Another big loss but JT rushes for 200+. 31-28 5. W MTSU. Dickey knows how to handle the MUTS. 17-14 6. W FIU. Things start to fall in place in the belt in the first blowout. 35-17 7. L at Ark State. Ark State beats us in a heart breaker 17-10 8. W at Troy. We get vengeance from last year after JT breaks a few. 20-14 9. L La Tech. Dickey doesnt get an OOC win and should be fired. 40-17 10 W at ULL. A big rebound but season still looks bleak. 10-7 11 L FAU. Why can't we beat these guys? 21-17 12 W at ULM. Attendance barely breaks 10k. 25-22 4-7 record predicted, Dickey keeps his job but every OOC game is lost.
  20. I'm sure Dodd has a stockpile of keyboards from him wearing out his delete key on angry e-mails he gets.
  21. Dodd is a moron. Before the UT - USC game he slammed Vince Young saying he was out of place to whine about the heisman and asked how he was going to feel after he lost in the rose bowl. I read his article after VY stomped USC and it was unbelievable. He was making absurd comparisons with VY to jackie robinson and other black athletes. I couldn't believe this was the same writer. Nevermind that Reggie McNeal started 4 years at a much more conservative southern school, or other famous black QB's in the NFL have had successful careers. Don't read alot into Dodd's articles, he is the true monday morning QB.
  22. I saw Bomar play in high school and talked to alot of guys on the Grand Prarie squad who knew him. All of them pretty much agreed hes an arrogant jerk whos over rated. Looks like not alot changed after high school.
  23. When I stayed in Kerr I had some relatives come up and see it. They said it looked like a jail and that the interiors of crack motels had looked better. I never thought of it as bad though. In fact, I kind of miss the off white/yellow walls and that mysterious smell that came from the corner south side on floor 7.
  24. I've been asking this question from day one: What in the hell kind of name is Florida International University? Is it part school part airport?
  25. If my g/f ever said anything like that I would have given her a round house to the chops.
