  1. Their size is fine. Their positioning and decision making was problematic. Often saw them shooting into a gap as the opposing RB shot out of a different one for big yards.
  2. Brandon Kennedy definitely on that list and Patrick Cobbs deserves to be considered, Lance Dunbar as well.
  3. Sad we return three starters and are still considered one of the worst.
  4. How are the players employees of the university if they are getting money from private business?
  5. So recently decommitted from OU and just committed to SMUt. Four star, 95 rating.
  6. Yes. Eighteen year olds are huge consumers and utilizers of newspapers. It’s why the print news model is thriving!
  7. In case anyone actually wants to discuss football here… Hard to argue with these two choices. Both need to be at all-conference level for this season to go well. If Novil has 13 TFL like in 2019 and is consistent game-to-game, the NFL will notice.
  8. I don’t think any school is going to allow the players to market cigarettes, booze, and strippers. ok maybe USC.
  9. Sarah Fuller will make more money off this than any our our football players.
  10. Do the networks have to play professionals for the same? No. They’ve got contracts with the leagues just like in college football. You guys are way overthinking this.
  11. Once Mack Brown let VY play like VY, he was the best player in college football. He did not “benefit” from being on the right team. Brown tried to force Young to be a pocket passer during his first year and it failed miserably. Then Brown changed the system to fit Vince. And when he did, they won a national championship. That is impact.
  12. Greatly improved from 2019? Yes. Top 5 in the conference: probably not. But trending in the right direction. Unfortunately losing a starter to transfer and another potential/projected starter doesn’t help. I think they are a little low on us but the concerns are valid. On the talent question, consider this: the second that Farrell was eligible he replaced an yearlong starter. That means Bloesh also thought there was some talent lacking. And now that guy (Farrell) is gone, as well as the guy he pushed from tackle to guard (Grey). So who plays that tackle position this year?
  13. Maybe. But most are minors through their career in high school.
  14. Conversely it could affect their eligibility to get a scholarship.
  15. Assumed he was committing that day but now not so sure that is what he meant
  16. Just visited LaTech and SMUt on official visits. We were on his schedule for an unofficial early June but don’t see anything in his Twitter feed about it actually happening. Probably not a good sign and seems we might end up playing against him one day.
  17. Could also be whatever filter they used for the photo from their phone. Not sure where one would even buy a battle flag with those colors.
  18. ‘22 OL from Argyle. Looks like only FCS recruiting him currently.
  19. RV did plenty during his time here. We have the Mean Green Village and all the minor sports’ facilities because of him. Softball was playing in a park and soccer in intramural fields. We were in serious breach of Title IX obligations and we ended up recognized as one of the best in compliance a few short years later. I know most of you think Title IX is a joke or unfair but it isn’t either of those things and it is also the law. So when he was unable to get the students to pass an increase in fees for athletics, he did not give up. He went to student government and explained the dire situation and consequences. He reached a compromise and got more funding. The Athletic Center and the other facilities got built. I am not trying to say he was a world beater but he also did not just sit on his ass and not try to improve things. He tried hard to make us better in many ways, including the above and the fact that we are now established as the Mean Green nationally. He failed at many things but it wasn’t for a lack of trying or that he didn’t care. I don’t think anyone should stay in one job that long so maybe he became less effective or complacent. But RV definitely cared and really wanted us to succeed. I know firsthand. I was the student senator that he worked with to get the funding increase.
  20. I don’t know who would have done better. Did we care so much about athletics? Not really. This is acknowledging that we played a lot of OOC games those years and many were big names. But for shits and giggles… 1998 only 3 of 8 loses were to winning teams. We did beat a 6 win Nevada in conference. Most points scored 27 (twice). 1999 bizarre year, right? Beat Tech and Boise St - both with winning records - but lost the other 9 games. Yes one was LSU who only won three games and completed less than 50 percent of its passes against us but still beat us 52-0. Baylor won only one game that year (against UNT). Most points scored 28 (in a loss). 2000 we finally got smart and schedule a win and scored 41 against Samford. Also beat a 1 win LaLa and 3 win NMSU. Only 4 losses were to losing teams so this was a stronger schedule. So then 2001 was the streak but we lost the first 5 - admittedly 3 were really good teams. But we also lost to start up USF and 2 win ULM. Later lost to transition Troy St. Again, thankful for the streak and I don’t so much blame DD (or RV) for the lack of overall support at that time but arguing that he is some kind of phenomenon or something is a bit much. He didn’t lose to the elites of the college football world those years. Yes LSU and Baylor are in good conferences but they were shitty teams then. And we lost to start ups and plenty of Big West losing teams during that time. I don’t think anyone is unhappy he won what he did, but think it is fair to point out the system he ran was designed to not lose against inferior opponents. And even that took almost four years to work. Thank you DD for the wins during those four years and wish you had done better the other five years so we could hold you in greater esteem overall.
