Erin Grant joins UTA women's coaching staff

It’s official. Former Mansfield and Texas Tech standout Erin Grant was hired to join the UT-Arlington women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach. Grant last week said she would accept the position but signed all paperwork on Monday. She will be reunited with Samantha Morrow, her high school coach.

“We’re real excited about it. It’s a feather in our cap,” Morrow said. “She’s been a coach on the floor for so many years and has so much experience from a player’s standpoint. She brings a lot of credibility to our program.”

Grant said she hopes to learn as much as possible from Morrow and said a career in coaching could be an option for her down the road. Grant just turned 23 last week.

Grant, who currently is in Arlington, was with the WNBA’s Houston Comets at the beginning of the season but was cut in late May. There’s a chance the Comets could resign her at the end of the month. If that happens, she will live in Houston and balance playing for the Comets with recruiting in the Houston area. She said she will return to Arlington following the WNBA season.

If she proves she can coach, might she be a candidate?

She's young, energetic and has the respect of many of the HS coaches in the state. She’s a proven winner with 4 Class 5A titles, 93-36 college record (29-6, 25-8, 24-8 and 15-14).

She is the career leader in assists with 844, sixth in career FT percentage (.802, 271-338) and tied for 19 in career scoring with 1,108 points.

We can only hope....who else thinks it might just be time to look for a new head women's bb coach?????? The program has been doing, well, not much, for many years...Tina S. seems to be able to grasp defeat out of the hands of victory time and time again. We should be able to do better, but what do others think?
