North Texas men's basketball assistant coach Jai Steadman has left the program after one season, head coach Johnny Jones said.

Steadman is a former TCU assistant who voluntarily left that job in 2003 after admitting he drove a player to Mexico to renew the player's student visa, an NCAA violation. Jones wished Steadman well but had no further comment.

Steadman could not be reached for comment. UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said Steadman was not terminated.

"It was amicable," Villarreal said. "Routinely, I don't get involved in the final decisions of coaches hiring or replacing assistants. In this situation, that remained the same. Jai's leaving, as far as I know, was only the result of an amicable decision between the two of them."

Jones also said that 6-foot-10 junior-college transfer Curtis Muse will not join the program after failing to meet NCAA eligibility requirements.
